I'm not sure if it's better to go fast or slow on the setts. Tend to avoid Brighton Place now.

I would've waved were I not nearby the treacherous tactile tiles.
Too bright?
Posted 11 years ago # -
You're light is not too bright. Its bright enough for others to see you coming before other in the dark corners of the NEPN.

no, wasn't too bright. but big, and in daytime. figured it must be someone I knew with a fancypants dynamo :)

The Christian Path is a handy detour to avoid the Brighton St cobbles. You need to take the lane and have confidence for the right hand turn if you're heading north though...

steveo at lunchtime - chummed me round to Evans where I was stocking up on energy gels (got it in my head it was one of those gave me my second wind on Monday at the 70 mile mark when I'd really started to struggle) and waxed lyrical about Topeak tyre levers, so much so that I bought a second pair so I wouldn't have to swap between bags on bikes and thereby run the risk of ever forgetting them.

On the towpath this evening...
Interesting because the woman with her back to us was cycling in football boots (which I thought was quite cool) and the chap coming towards us had a Contour Camera on his helmet and was riding an interesting bike.
He looked like the kind of person who's on this forum, so I'm hoping for a reverse spot to find out what I look like on a bike.

I spotted the football boots just before wester hailes heading east, must have passed you @Greenroofer

@wingpig could have been me, heading towards Lothian rd around 8:15? Red pannier bag, grey Specialized cyclocross...
Posted 11 years ago # -
@twq If you then headed back away from Lothian Road at about 08:45 and shouted "wingpig" as you passed then it could also have been you. I'm useless at identifying bicycle makes or models when moving.

Ha no, that wasn't me. I do head up and down every day to work, so say hello. I'm in terrible, mismatched lycra and tatty green trainers.

It was me, blown in by the tail wind to work today, orange specs £2.99 aldi

Twofer today, my toddler got very excited at the red torpedo, piloted by allercat coming off the Calder Road Roundabout. I was disguised as responsible adult walking child to nursery, Its a good disguise...
Then Kaputnik at hutchy crossway, who may in fact have seen me first.Posted 11 years ago # -
Theo, heading south up Comiston Road yesterday. By the time I noticed it was you, you were about two feet away and almost past me, so calling out would likely have been wobble-inducing. I had to get to the school's secondary site to collect nippers anyway, so couldn't have blethered either way.

Apologies to whoever spotted me in the tunnel and waved. I was running a bit late so was concentrating entirely on getting to work and since I was actually earlier than usual I wasn't looking out for anyone.

Spotted AlanR in disguise on an upright bike this evening, as our paths crossed on the canal towing path.

Spotted Big GED from EBC in much EBC gear but also swinging carradice on Cultins road, he was heading for canal, I was waiting for the cavalry (my wife, not John Wayne) as I had snapped chain on my 3 spd by having huge amount of shopping in two panniers. Shopping on top of my chain fixing gear. Shame as had nice flat cycle along all new Stenhouse path, lovely.

"along all new Stenhouse path"
?
Posted 11 years ago # -
Sorry, it is the same path. Just seemed brand new. Lovely cycle in sun until I broke the chain on Cultins road
Also unless big GED the smiliest cyclist in Edinburgh lurks then not technically a spot. He was magnificently tweedy at Janipar when the cinema I help run in Balerno put that on. Lovely night.

Spotted Arellcat in disguise on the canal path tonight and we had a lovely chat. Her Brompton was lovely too. I'm actually enjoying riding an upright bike now I've changed the saddle for a Brooks and although not as comfortable as my trike, it's not half bad. I'm also enjoying doing all the things you can do on a bike, such as weaving between stopped traffic on my way to the canal, which you can't do on a trike.

Wednesday lunchtime. I spotted a recumbent trike heading down the hill on route 1 to Innerleithen, slowed to warn us of sheep on the road ahead. Was towing a trailer with two boxes on and a couple of flags. Anyone know him> perhaps he called in at Laidback's shop? I think the bent was red.
