one a red suspension bike with almost invisible seatpost. ridden by older chap. not mountainbike style.

I think that's what's known as a "jump bike". Seat mounted extremely low (or often absent) to avoid unwanted collision with one's nether regions. Danny Macaskills rides something similar.

@ kaputnik. No. It definitely wasn't a jumpbike. ridden by guy with flat cap and shoulderbag.

think it was the electrobike i linked to further down, and optical illusion made me not see seatpost. (I was across canal and up, and he was mostly past me when i saw him).

    @SRD I see, there's the "Montague", a collapsing folding bike that is I think designed for the military originally;

Low mounted seat could be hidden by a derriere?

I think I was spotted this morning on the towpath at about half 7. Guy cycled up behind me and what I now think was "Sorry, are you Dunny?" sounded like "Sorry, are you turning?" as I had just passed a wee turn off and was going pretty slow and possibly wobbling about.

I was still fast asleep on the way in this morning, I've only just fully woken up actually, so sorry I lied. It was me.

A hard working Dave spotted motoring down the NEPN at the Ravelston junction as I ambled towards Haymarket.

  7. Two yellow clad cyclists...

One was naturally kaputnik, reaching Brougham Place and heading down Tarvit Street.

The other, twice, I think was amir, but only cos I know it's an occasional route. We passed in the car on Duddingston Road West; then once I was on foot on Holyrood Park Road.

It's the time of year when the yellow fleecy jacket is back in use.

Dunny on the towpath this morning.

I was going to put up a post saying that I'd seen someone who fitted the bill (blue skater lid and turquoise bike, going the same way as me) on the towpath but who then denied being Dunny, but this isn't necessary now... :-)

Spotted two more of those funny bikes that SRD raised, but Kaputnik cited as Montague folders in Holyrood Park about 4.30 tonight. Couple riding them dressed in road lycra

So many Uberuce - Nelly - Uberuce spots / reverse spots in the last 24 hours / week / year I wonder if its worth just accepting that neither of us could get away with a 'Dexter' disappearing act.

You mean when you stop being in Press Gang or cockney gangster films and come back directing Sunshine on Leith?

This time, definitely spotted the McClaren buggy trike. White, pacific brand, tiny wheels, log basket on the back as a pannier. In new wooden style cycle shelter at canonmills Tesco. If I was manager of that shop I would let the owner of the trike cycle it round the shop.

The wicker log basket was of the kind designed to fit on the first step of a stairwell. It was attached by bungee. Very fetching

  20. paul.mag last night. Or rather he spotted me, and I then tried to keep up into the headwind to the airport. Kudos for that as a daily commute, and thanks for giving me a line to follow on an unfamiliar route!

Pretty sure I saw Wilmington powering along Melville Drive this evening, at not-quite 6pm. I was in disguise behind a Toucan crossing and further in disguise by not being encased in red.

Brief spot of Kaputnik who quite correctly said it was too cold to stand around outside and chat. And Roibeard clutching some very shiny Ortleibs in the Laid Back Bicycle Emporium just after.

Bizarre one this - Instography (nice to meet you) and Kaputnik - we were all out with separate groups of friends and in a very weird Thursday night Edinburgh being a village kind of way......bumped into each other in the Berts Bar pub quiz.

    K - I hope you didnt cycle home :-)

@SRD I semi regularly see a very tall man on a dutch bike taped with yellow tape so it is like a giant bumblebike. He also has fluffy cat ears on his helmet.

@Nelly, no I pushed all the way home.

yes, I suspect that is the chap I saw. definitely very upright sort of bike. and yes, protuberances on the helmet. but he was past me before I could figure out what they were.

  27. Suspect that was me that wingpig and Arellcat saw, given I left work about 5.45ish, so it fits. But doubt cast by 'powering along'.

"But doubt cast by 'powering along' "

    Maybe it's a new euphemism.

  29. For 'looking a bit knackered and cursing the headwind'?

No, that sounds like powering along to me.
