Yep - nice to see you. Sorry for being overly exuberant - I was quite high due to the glorious weather and the fact that I'd come in later than usual and had passed so many useless cars in the rush hour traffic.

Spotted Morningsider waiting at the Leamington Terrace crossing for Bruntsfield Links. I was in disguise on a motorbike.
and had passed so many useless cars in the rush hour traffic.
Later on spotted Mr Important driving his black Mercedes coupe while continually looking down at his phone. Wing mirrors reveal all sorts of interesting things. I filtered past while he was stopped in traffic and had a look, which he didn't seem to like at all judging by the way he then blew his horn.
I filtered past so many cars this morning that if I'd been counting them I would've lost count.

As DaveC has established when passing me on the NEPN my default concentration-frown probably makes me look grumpier than I am.

Mr G. Embo on the canal this morning just before Yeaman bridge. I did his requested hand gesture but he flumoxed me by going for the high-5 just as I put my hand back on the bars to ding the bell. Next time I'll try reciprocate.

I was also in disguise this morning, (though perhaps a shorter blacker disguise than Arrelcat's!)
I passed Mr I'm so fast/in such a hurry in his white van as I passed a queue of traffic onto the roundabout where I join the motorway, I then rode relatively cautiously round the roundabout before reaching the slip to join the motorway(as it was wet, cold and had an unpredictable surface).. While I was doing this our hero was attempting to overtake me, even onto the slip where the inevitable happened as I accelerated to join the traffic.
Always worth remembering that many drivers have nothing specifically against bicycles, they're raving idiots to everyone else as well :-/Posted 10 years ago # -
Sorry about that Kapo, I veered from protocol. I had seen your look a like out at Heriot watt earlier in the commute but not the elusive kingfisher that others appear to spot with gay abandon. The lift bridge at leamington was shut when I got there but I was going other way anyway. Folks seemed to be stopping for a chat and waiting for the gates to open

Glimpsed someone I thought I vaguely recognised popping out the Chesser end of Saughton park (near Shell garage) this evening approx 22:30. Or could have just been a generic cyclist/person on bike.

SRD in smart suit crossing bike path from Sainsbury's yesterday.
Think it must have been LB customer if spot was in last wee while. I'm still at shop and been here for last two hours... John S on a trike with fairing?I've heard from uberuce by the way. All mainly ok.

A blue Kona Ute (or similar) bike in one of the sheds of our satellite building at the Gyle. Had a magic-8-ball cover on the saddle.

Above bike spotted canalling-it westwards and then down the hill Gylewards this morning. Sans stoker.

An extremely nice matte black Azor with all the fittings. Can't find pic of exact bike, but since I have finally realized that it has a laidback bikes sticker, perhaps he can enlighten us?

Bike branded "Puch".
Austrian, according to Boyfriend, who should know.Posted 10 years ago # -
Daimler Puch was a bike brand. Don't hear of it so much now.
SRD. Answering your leading question!
The bike you saw is the only Pastoorfiets in Edinburgh AFAIK. Designed in Holland so priests could ride with lower step over for their cloaks. Is sold in Amsterdam via Workcycles and has a handy front rack. Azor also make the Bakfiets and Onderwater tandem and we can bring in direct from them.
Owned by cc of this forum. Not quite as long as a Helios - there is a picture somewhere.

It's gorgeous. Pic doesn't do it justice. You must bring it to PY for us all to admire!

spotted a recumbent trike heading up towards Gillespie Crossroads from Clovenstone roundabout yesterday, just after 8am. Anyone here?

Morningsider, not therein.

brief chat with EddieD this morning on his fine looking Airnimal...

And vice versa with Algo - although I got a shock, Alex Robinson was pontificating about the London financial centers, and all of a sudden he got personal and started talking to me...

cc out on MMW with his very Dutch Pastoorfiets complete with laden front rack.
Relaxed upright bikes are still rare among male riders in Edinburgh as speed still sells more than comfort it seems!
friskiffla - if it was a black recumbent trike then it was maybe AlanR of this forum.
A good example of speed and comfort.

I've seen a guy on a dutch type bike on the Hutchison cyclepath now and again when I've been running. If it's someone here then we've probably went past each other half a dozen times without realising it. Though given my track record of spotting it's probably not.
I was running along the canal from Slateford to Fountainpark this afternoon. Interesting observations:
Going with the wind and the sun out, it was approaching proper summer heatwave levels of warmth. I still seen loads of people dressed in heavy jackets, hats and gloves etc, as I found out slightly later going into the same wind in the shade was much cooler but not exactly wintery.
There were plenty of bikes coming past me from the front and heading away from town, but absolutely none overtook me from behind. Not a single one in the whole stretch. Reminds me of the elevator paradox in some manner as it seems strange for everyone to be going in the one direction.
There was a guy at the first bridge after slateford with a clipboard and hiviz jacket who appeared to be interviewing/questioning someone on a bike. Canal use survey of some sort?
Someone set up at the last bridge before Leamington with a camera and tripod on the path under the bridge. Not the best spot I had to say but being a photographer myself I've been known to get myself into awkward positions for a shot so no harm done.

I'm a recent convert to the joys of an upright bike, although it's not yet my commuting bike of choice - perhaps come summer.

These days I'll take upright comfort every time. I find it a lot less stressful. That's important when you cycle every day - It feels a lot less likely to All Get Too Much.
@Laidback talking of comfort, what were you riding, your latest Paper Bike?Posted 10 years ago #
