Bizarrely, after yesterday's discussion of the pastoorfiets, I am sure I saw anoth one going down MMW as I left in the evening. Can't imagine anything else with that very distinctive cross-over crossbar. And it was not cc on it, as his was still in the bikeshed.

SRD - maybe possible there are two. Quite popular design I've been told.
cc - yes a new demo on loan from PB. It's brown and cream. Brown's not my favourite but needed new demo quickly and it was available.Posted 10 years ago # -
First sighting of another Spa Audax and at work too. Quite rare.

@amir - I just about caught up with a young bloke on one the other day at the lights - the 105 variety - enough time to wheeze my appreciation, then he disappeared into the distance. A very fine looking machine indeed....

The guy on the spa I saw was pretty young, possibly a student.

yeah - could be the same bloke. He said he was from near Harrogate or Knaresborough I think so was extra proud of his bike.

A Montague Paratrooper bike on the train this evening. Brute of a machine.

Spotted two Van Nicols bikes whilst waiting for Balders at the Craigleith Y.

Pedestrian having a good go at a cyclist for cycling along the pavement from Haymarket towards the Dalry Road junction. I'm with the pedestrian, even if the legal alternatives for cyclists are 1) walk or 2) cycle via Torphicen Street.

Me....by @shuggiet. Who thought I was @jdanielp, due to me hanging around Bridge 11 with a pair of binoculars, vainly seeking the elusive kingfisher from the wildlife highlight thread.
Big thanks to Shuggie for pointing out that Hermiston House Road is in fact Bridge 12, not 11.

anyone else notice the bike in a tree beside MMW? someone just tweeted a pic, which reminded me.
(shuggie/Iwere right etc - love the image of you crouched under a bridge with binocs and Shuggiet shouting 'are you 'jdanielp'? with you replying 'no actually I'm ....'.
classic.

Now there's a spot - was there a picture, or is it still there?

@SRD "shuggie/Iwere right etc - love the image of you crouched under a bridge with binocs and Shuggiet shouting 'are you 'jdanielp'? with you replying 'no actually I'm ....'"
You hit the nail on the head there, it was a pretty surreal conversation and I almost choked on the words "No, I'm I were right about that saddle...". Not a sentence you ever expect to say in the real world...
Still, just nice to have a chat with a fellow bicyclist. Chdot should be proud of what (s)he has done here.

actually the chat up line was, 'kingfisher?' before we got to the surreal intros.

"before we got to the surreal intros"
Sounds like the ones at PY when people introduce themselves by their 'normal' names and everyone looks blank...
There have been various encounters 'in the wild' where people realise they 'already know each other' (via CCE)!

Met kenny from here the other day while handing out POP flyers... coal to Newcastle etc...

Peering out of my upstairs window this afternoon, wondering where the noise of the chainsawing was coming from (and then watching in horror a chap standing on a pile of bouncy branches on his pick-up and cutting them up with absolutely no protective gear whatsoever*). I saw a couple of "proper cyclists" heading down the pavement.
By that, I mean that they seemed to have well-used kit, and one of them was pushing a Brompton (mark of a proper cyclist in my book). The Brompton-pusher had a striking long jacket with the sleeves a different colour to the body.
I went downstairs to find my Spokesworker had arrived. They must have delivered it. If it was you, thank you!

@chdot. I hope this thread doesn't get diverted into a discussion about appropriate safety gear for chainsawing.
I feel a 'THE chainsaw PPE thread' thread coming on...

I vote for a special challenge /response to identify other CCEers a la Reddit (which for full information is "When does the narwhale bacon?" answer is "Midnight")
It would have to be something suitably cyclical though.

Anyone else have issues with spokes deliverers? Ours obviously doesn't like to climb stairs, so our envelope usually languishes in the staircase for some days before I realise what it is. Our staircase practice is to put mail for non-residents/mid addressed mail on the window sill. But our spokes deliveries end up in random places, including in front of other peoples doors/doormats so I don't realize it might be a spokes item.
To be honest, it doesn't bother me much, but drives Mr SRD mad. Maybe I should give them money and ask for it to be posted?

Have plenty of Spokes Latest Issue and POP posters here
Todays spot. Sign of almost safe cyling in Edinburgh.
Mum with 5 year old on bike going along the Missoni cycle path around 9.15. Accompanied by another woman. Traffic quiet, visibility good! Nice little trio that were taking care rolling along at 6 or 7mph.
Trio want to do right turn but are too far left to make approach, Leading woamn does signla and go right but car tries to go by before lights change to red.
Mum and daughter walk over on green man.
Bit of chat between lead woman cyclist and driver. If it had been Amsterdam the cycle turn would have been signaled from side of road with pedestrians. Crossing there at George IV Bridge is commonly used like this although illegal. Similar sized junction at Fountainpark has a cycle and pedestrian free for all Dutch style.
Just an observation on how close yet how far we are from 'easy family cycling' in the city.
As a bike trainer I would tell people how to take the lane but when you have a 5 year old on their own bike it's often better to exercise caution and just walk over.Posted 10 years ago # -
Cream Paperbike parked beside my folder at work. Then spotted laidback in motion on MMW.

Spotted the still-bearded Kaputnik this evening cycling by the Co-op opposite Laid Back Bikes.
Then met the Family Algo in Laid Back Bikes.

Family Roibeard in Argyle Place. Was past before I could say hi.

Mutual spot, but clearly 'tis the disadvantage of the low-flying missiles you sell...
Had you been on a Paper Bicycle, I'm sure we could have had a full civilised conversation in the passing, like stately vessels on the Thames!
I was coasting along behind the girls, fully upright and in a wee world of my own, so the knee level blur was past before recognition set in...
*waves belatedly*
