recumboris - no need to apologise, I don't know anyone here either! I'm just another cyclist on the path, but a recumbent is slightly more noticeable. We exchanged nods anyway

@gembo - we were only on the way out when you spied us from on high, PS spotted us on the way back.
I suppose grinace is about as close as I get to suffer-face - the Pino is too much fun!

@roibeard, these recumbent upright hybrids really do shift, so the pain comes with the gain. Love the idea that the folks in the wee villages of fife all came out to see the funny men and the wee boys ran down the street after you

@Kenny walking the dogs on the East Craigs Path Network. I think I confused him by being in disguise as a 'normal' cyclist.
The relaxed timings of a bank holiday allowed me to let my eldest onto his own bike and me onto my old hybrid (with child seat)..

Some kind of electric bikey contraption in the office bike park this morning. First time I have seen one in our place. Not convinced it was locked....

Very tall Dutch-ish (or or nearby Scandic nation?) man on the Broomhouse path this morning effortlessly keeping up with me trying to cycle fast. A little bit more embarrasing for me considering I was down on the drops on a skinny wheeled road bike and he had a very upright and knobbly tyred hybrid with a suspension fork and those big plastic mit-covers on the bars.
We had a chat about hub dynamos and metal mudguards. I had mistaken him for his relaxed demeanour and slight accent for being en tour but it turns out he was just on his way to work - but was infact going touring in NW Scotland in the next few weeks.

I came across Dave this morning bent over sweeping the Hawthornvale Path with a little blue brush. Quite unique. Tried to persuade him to come sweep my garden, but no dice.

One of those flat-stowing dark blue Tesco miniature dustpan/brushes, ideal for cyclists except for the softness of the bristles?

Hi Wingpig, nice to stop for chat at lift bridge
Also spotted mark from the bike chain going down the hill
And history master at currie high who once directed several youth to give me the V sign as I was French and they were bowmen with their bow fingers in tact

Andrew Burns, proudly sporting his PoP T-Shirt, whilst doing his training run, mixing it with the cycle commuters on the canal this morning. There seemed to be be even more bikes today than normal, which would have made it tougher for him...

Spotted the stowaway folding bike that was stolen from my garden last year locked to a lamp post on George IV bridge yesterday. !! I was in a hurry and in the van so couldn't stop...... But it's out there and being ridden. I know it was mine because I put brompton handle bars and new brake levers on it .
I will hopefully see it again sometime when I have a spare lock on me.
I never reported it as stolen but would be nice to find out how the new " owner" came have it eh ?

Did the silent hand in air kappa kappa kappa salute tonight as did not want to startle some youth. Perhaps when we did the high five whilst passing this may have startled them good, thing to.

Did I give way to gembo on the aqueduct just before 6pm? The possible gembo was heading west. The lights on my bike were on.
Posted 10 years ago # -
You did Greenroofer very kindly at the aqueduct. I thought you were of the CCE crew and was contemplating giving it Greenroofer but went for smile instead. I have been smiling fair bit thie last two days back on bike.
Had to Do the police in different voices this morning though. Young woman had stopped at entrance/exit to railwayi bridge over canal to let me out. Some dumpkoff geezer unable to work out that early in the morning why she had stopped and overtook her and propelled himself at me coming out of the under bridge. I thanked the woman and unthanked the idiot.
Also made young woman laff with not so fake shriek at next bridge as she smashed towards me. Admit was not that worried.
All good

@gembo: Please keep wearing those glasses then, because with them on I'll be sure to recognise you in future too!

"One of the Dave's on Broughton St"? in red. close encounter with a Woolen Mill Lorry?
second-hand spot courtesy of Mr SRD
Posted 10 years ago # -
Yep, I did see Mr SRD with Young master B.
I was riding up Belleview and coming towards the T junction of E Claremont St. I spotted the Edin Wolly Mill lorry early on and as he approached, figured as I could not see the driver for his wing mirrors, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Paid off as he flew out and only spotted me as he was on the road. The frightened look of horror and wave sorry with his hand said all I wanted to know. Hope he has learned something, I have.

Spotting DaveC on the recumbent in Dalmeny is so easy it feels like cheating. Especially when he gives a cheery wave and good morning.
I don't know if the lady behind you was riding with you but she looked a little surprised by our greetings.

Spotted at 17h50 last night - packet of about ten child cyclists all dressed in mountain biking gear emerging from Bridge End community allotments on to Old Dalkeith Road in the charge of a single adult.
Good to see, but I'd have been bricking it as the sole leader of such a group....
Posted 10 years ago # -
17.50? or 19.50? If 19.50 that was the ERC Go-Ride group coming back from Craigmillar, under the joint leadership of a couple of us.. Both of us bricking it at that fast corner crossing to the Inch. Luckily it was quiet, and a very thoughtful car driver stopped a good distance away to let us cross. We had a closer shave on the road in the Inch with a ridiculous quad bike rider.
If it was 17.50 it's impressive that there are 2 groups of child cyclists around that area!

19h50....d'oh! That is a hideous corner to emerge onto. If I were youse I'd pop out from from Lady Susan's Walk (little magic door in the stone wall) about 400m South of there, opposite Ravenswood Avenue.
Please feel free to call unreasonable quad bikers in to plod. They are a menace.
Mini mountain bikers on Craigmillar Hill is it? Nice work.

@acsimpson. She was riding with me. I'd caught her in the bridge and got chatting on the way through S Queensferry. I say hello to most people I see and get a wave back. She doesn't cycle in much so I was showing her the sights. I think she has fallen for me! Well when I say fallen, we colided later on and she came off and ended up on the ground. A few cuts and bruising but she assures me she's fine now (via txts) and we have agreed to keep a 50m distance between us ;O)

I see a number of cyclists on my route between Leith - Edinburgh Park - Leith each day, but wouldn't know if any are CCE members (other than Nelly and Kaputnik who I know and who ride parts of the same route).
I usually wear an orange/black or white/blue CycleChat jersey, or my I Pay Road Tax jersey, and ride and white & red Giant Defy.
Give me a wave if you see me! It'd be nice to put faces to a few more CCE names.

threefromleith: were you at PoP? I was standing behind someone at Holyrood with a I Pay Road Tax jersey*
*my autocorrect initially changed this to heresy!

Yesterday morning, a silver recumbent being pedalled along the five lane dual carriageway in the centre of Dundee. First I've seen in the Jute city.
At first I wasn't sure it was a recumbent as it was rather an upright seating position. Middle aged chap riding was dressed in a tweed jacket, no h*****t, I'm presuming an acdemic at the university.
Looked very similar to this, but silver:

A chap looking very dapper and continental on a porteur-style bike with front carrying rack and white-wall tyres. Came off the canal at Fountainbridge and smoothly made his way onwards.
A very practical yet stylish machine. I liked it.
