Loads of cyclists on the Innocent this am. I can't blame them - the weather is gorgeous. Could it be smile-on-a-bike day?

    Definitely feel-less-minoritish day this morning...
I was only on the 3.8-mile quick route in but there was no point when I wasn't the only visible cyclist on any particular stretch of road.

And spotted a second bike with a front carrier rack this evening at Haymarket. I've only ever seen these type of bikes when windowinternet shopping. Have I just been missing them up to now? They look very practical.

(And yes, I thought there were a lot more cyclists than normal today).

Harts cyclery sells/rides the Kona with this porteur rack. I think they look pretty cool.

I see you're camera is back in Edinburgh. Previous pic was taken in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne according to Flickr data!

@Stickman I recommend a front rack, it's terrific for me, very practical. I generally put everything in my backpack then sling that into the plastic crate I've fixed to the front rack and it sits in front of me as I cycle. Lots of room for everything and no worries about stuff falling off while I'm not looking. There's a huge rear rack on my bike too but I rarely need to use it.

@Wingpig Very impressed that your bike comes fitted with a microwave. Must be handy for heating up snacks, coffee etc. during a ride. Is it dynamo powered?

    Was chatting to a guy riding one of these;

at the lights on Myreside Road/Colinton Road this morning. Turns out he's the owner of Freewheelin' on Slateford Road. Nice chap - never been in his shop though.

@IWRATS that will explain why there's usually a big motorbike parked up on the pavement outside the shop then.

    No bike racks.

Chris owns freewheelin and parks his motorbike on the pavement outside his shop. Sometimes nick is running the shop and he has no motorbike. When we were at Westwood house in Gorgie I used them for repairs.

I saw the eponymous lady in a purple helmet on the canal this morning at Wester Hailes.

Had a High-5 with Gembo at Harrison Park. The jogger behind joined in too as he assumed I meant to High-5 him.

  18. @StickMan Yes, I was at POP, but sporting my Blue/white/orange CycleChat Jersey. Rode along with fellow CC'er Scoosh who was riding his recumbent, and @acsimpson who knew Scoosh.

Much merriment with the sociable Gembo (see kaputnik above) this morning. Blocking the aqueduct to discuss mythical Kingfishers.

Had a pleasant cycle through the Dalmeny Estate this morning with a chap on a cyclo-cross bike.

He'd stopped to ask which route to take little knowing, presumably, of my previous history of disastrous geographic decisions in the Estate :D

Luckily I managed to get him out of the place without getting lost so if he's a member on here, good to meet you!

I nice disk braked but strangely loud folder going down the pleasance at about 1pm. I was going to say hello but the rider seemed slightly anxious - not sure if just alert or if he was worried about where he was going. However it was a nice looking bike with some hefty looking hinges!

Been a sociable week, good to see kapps, shug and AKSocialWorker of my ken all on towpath. No kingfisher but last night I crossed the aqueduct unimpeded, had it all to myself.

Homeward bound ca. 10:30 this morning along the nepn between Crewe toll red bridge and Silverknowes (via Craiglieth jnct) got talking to a guy on a rather swish Pinarello. Nice chatty lad originally from Shetland. Anyone on here?

Guilty as charged (it is illegal you know).

I did wonder if that was you that I spotted leaving our (new) neighbours house, as I was about to leave mine.

Given we didn't catch up with you for half a mile, you'll have an idea of how long it takes to get the 3 of us out of the house and onto the bike...

As the friend we were with has recently moved house that sounds likely. It does look like quite a logistical feat to load and go.

I had to get the bus home tonight after I found that one of my rear wheel nuts was stripped and the rear wheel was only held on by one nut.

On the way home on the bus I spotted (1) a bearded chap in a bandana up by the Marriott at Maybury who seemed to be taking a large (26/29" wheel) folded bike out of a bag (2) DaveC walking (for reasons probably explained elsewhere) by the galleries on Princes Street while I changed buses. We passed close, but he was deep in a phone conversation. I was the grumpy and hungry looking person in cycling gear carrying a red pannier but without a bike...
