You were just leaving Peter's yard on Friday? I was arriving for 08.11 am at Peter's yard. I was a bit early please do not tell CHdot, you had been with shuggiet, Dougal and Helen and Eddie-H?

had you been in Ratho today you would have seen my red flag sticking out of my dirty yellow pannier

@gembo, yes, I was on my Brompton, wearing a blue coat, and had indeed been enjoying the company of various CCEers and a PY coffee.

IWRATS in the new t-shirt he bought on his holidays in that new country North Scotland, where the hens lay hard boiled eggs and the EU subsidises road building.

Actually, he maybe only put it on as he knew I would be flying my flag down the towpath. Also he probably did not buy it in Inverness.

In 1984 I was in Inverness to help out some chums at their Faultline Festival. Quite Nice t-shirt I bought advertsiing the festival. Sort of drawing of the faultline and then an F. ONly slightly looking like it said NF which was not something to be advertsiing in 1984, or any other time.

I was congratulated on my flag by fellow cycle commuter near craiglockhart. Colleague'sm kid thought it was for the X-box though.

European chap on recumbent on Roseburn, most days to be honest but different bike than normal.

Fully roadie chap but on a disc hybrid uses the path then comes out at Craigleith to head West, usually sporting a hi vis jacket.

    Anyone on here

Sorry, didn't spot you! Checked back the video and still can't see you - where abouts were you / I?

Loads of Heras fencing at the side of the Roseburn, possibly connected to the tree dangling off the bank onto Balbirnie Place.

I was in stealth model - on my big stripey tandem with a flag at the back ;)

You were eyes down in the queue and I was heading the other way.

Ah ha! I have now spotted you on video. Well, I have spotted what appears to be your flag, through a car window. Probably the vaguest "spotted" ever!

Could that have been jdanielp whose hub-geared Charge I admired on the canal? I suspect so.....hope the slightly too low gearing issue can be sorted out. I do fancy a disc-braked, kevlar-belted, hub-geared bike as my next commuter.

@IWRATS indeed it was! Nice to have made contact, albeit initially I was a little irritated by not being entirely sure when you were planning on overtaking me, although I mellowed after you admired my bicycle! If you're after a belt-drive then you will have to look elsewhere, but if you find yourself wanting to know more about the Charge Grater then let me know. I'll probably post back to my own thread about it now that I've been riding it for a few weeks since the 2015 model is the same as the 2014.

Ah Yes. I swithered due to not being sure of the spot. My normal pass is ting-tong whoosh, but this was thumb on the bell, hesitate go stop chat go.

I guess you can always just up the size of the chainwheel if the rear sprocket's getting to the limit?

Ah well, no worries. I knew you were behind me at least! It's people that suddenly appear alongside me without my having even heard them approaching that really annoy me.

I can change the sprocket to 18 teeth from the currently installed 20, but increasing the size of the chainwheel from the installed 38 teeth would be far more effective, if expensive... I'm in no particular rush to do so, but the bike certainly does feel like it wants to go faster!

Did I spot Eric Milligan in the crowd in your photos?

I think Jim held up a box of eggs with "VOTENO THANKS" written on them, after being chased by a man in a chicken suit.

    Not sure what was said.

You did spot Eric Milligan, also George foulkes

I spotted you on Friday, two kaputnik's got nothing and one (inserts your first name) got you to look round. I was disguised as guy in suit, you were entering Waverley from calton road

IWRATS you should catch him at one of his remaining gigs.

Someone overtook me on a very lightweight looking tandem tonight on WoL path near Balerno. Might have been dave? Raleigh style top, rucksack. No one on the back.

I did hear the latter, and looked round but couldn't see anyone I recognised and couldn't think immediately who I knew that might be hanging around that part of town in the wet, in a suit.

Spotted and hailed jdanielp as he entered his domicile last night. Slightly odd as I'd just spotted him properly for the first time that morning on the canal.

Turns out the second half of my commute begins at his front door and we only diverge at Bridge 10A on the canal.

@IWRATS you're making some sweeping assumptions there! I was in fact at my girlfriend's domicile, which makes it rather more odd that you spotted me there... Generally I exit the canal at the lifting bridge and head into town.

Out of interest, do you short-cut through Craiglockhart woods by the pond or head around to Polworth? I do like the woods/pond but feel that I may be putting myself at a greater risk of punctures now I'm on the new bicycle.

    @jdanielp

    Apologies!

    At the moment I take Greenroofer's Railway Snicket;

    https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Myreside+Road,+Edinburgh&hl=en&ll=55.925884,-3.224187&spn=0.000048,0.037508&sll=52.8382,-2.327815&sspn=4.752251,19.204102&oq=myreside+road&hnear=Myreside+Rd,+Edinburgh,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=15&layer=c&cbll=55.926017,-3.224055&panoid=5nBw15l04K_NP0U1__RPoA&cbp=12,309.03,,0,13.8

It's slightly absurd (narrow and overgrown) but feels both like proper mountain biking and a bit forbidden, both of wich attract me to it.

What is the woods route? I like the sound of that.

@IWRATS no worries, it was nice to meet you properly :)

Ah yes, I have walked that route a few times but I don't think that I would fancy cycling it. The woods route involves turning left out of Craighouse Gardens and then crossing the road immediately and heading through the gap in the wall:
    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.924507,-3.224745,3a,75y,146.35h,74.61t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sn3NntsDuQ1xOJ3oxfBUb3g!2e0

I would then follow the path along, down to the right and back round on itself to pass the pond, exiting up the side of the exercise/tennis centre emerging here:
    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.923879,-3.236253,3a,75y,174.52h,68.67t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sgl3_nOYLr--lV0ZlFmAG3w!2e0

Take a left onto Colinton road, then a right after the pedestrian crossing down Craiglockhart Road North and onto a shared use path that takes you to the canal:
    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.923406,-3.238699,3a,75y,11.18h,60.12t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sc_GIk9Md-UpXJrA_epeFXw!2e0

Unfortunately the map routing can't handle that, but it should be fairly self-explanatory and there are a number of variations that can be taken in any case. I do like keeping up with the Craiglockhart pond swans, although there can be a fair number of dog walkers in the way and there are also a number of gates to negotiate.

I gave up trying to get the forum to show the correct links (and it is probably technically Craighouse woods and then Craiglockhart pond come to think of it...)

@IWRATS indeed. I would be very interested to see an attempt to cycle up the steep incline just beyond the exercise/tennis centre that I believe is used by many for that race (I haven't competed but Cathy did once).
