I can assure you that that slope is not cyclable in an upward sense. The dry sandy soil under the beech trees and the steep slope mean that many people find it unrunnable. (The trick is to use the part-submerged tree roots as hand-holds.)

Not even Simon Parker would suggest it as part of a cycle network.

CycleStreets doesn't seem to want to route up the pond side of the tennis courts. Also seems to want to avoid the first bit of path along from Craighouse Road.

Has anyone ever tried sneaking through the cricket ground by going in here and coming out here?

@cb I haven't tried that, but it seems like a nice idea if rather risky. It's a shame that a non-vehicular link was not incorporated joining Meadowspot and The Wickets to provide a paved route for pedestrians and cyclists. I'm currently experimenting with heading along Myreside Road to join the canal off Ashley Terrace, although the traffic does tend to build up along there in the morning with schoolchildren being dropped off etc. and the lack of cycle lanes could make it difficult to negotiate...

Myreside Road is a pest with all the 4x4s, but the school crossing guy is a delight.

He will shout "Rock and roll!" and you should answer "Lock and load!" if you want him to think that you are me.

Travelling home between at about 1830 (having stayed at work glued to the #craighouse twitter feed) I passed a couple on a tandem on the towpath heading west. It seemed quite lightly built and to have slightly smaller wheels than normal (perhaps 24" or maybe skinny 26").

As I approached the Myreside/Colinton Road lights at about 18:40 I believe I spotted david.nutter heading north across the junction, but I was quite a way from the junction so it could have been somebody else...

Spotted: the hashtag #cycletowork, on Twitter, after I had arrived at work.

I wonder how people who don't usually cycle to work find out about cycle to work day?

@shuggiet on the canal. I was disguised as a fat jogger who had recently boiled his own head. Good to chat for a while.

I'd just tested @jdanielp's route through the Craiglockhart Woods, where I got slightly lost and discovered an anorexic greyhound. The owner said it was unwell and attending the vet. I don't normally ask about the welfare of dogs, but I could see its skeleton.

    "where I got slightly lost"

I bet it was at the point where 'the route'

    http://www.cyclestreets.net/journey/42304493

goes slightly right and downhill (then sharp right round the back gardens).

Not a 'fast' route - must respect those going for a quiet walk - but very pleasant.

You are correct, @chdot. It was just there.

Did you find the pond? -

E come quei che con lena affannata,
uscito fuor del pelago a la riva,
    si volge a l'acqua perigliosa e guata.

yes, meepmeep I was in Chesser Av about that time. Didn't see you though, unless you were disguised with a beard.

@arellcat at Morningside Cross last night on a recumbent. Clearly baffled to be hailed from afar by a random on a ratty hybrid.

@cb I use the cricket-ground cut through sometimes - but generally only after about 9pm, when there's nobody around doing sporty things. Interestingly, if it's been wet then there's often a number of cycle tyre tracks across the grassy section.

Also a variation on @jdanielp's route through the woods is to come out at the end of Craiglockhart Terrace rather than past the pond - but this is two sides of a triangle formed by @Greenroofer's railway snicket - which is very brambly.

Shuggiet - disguised as a car I'm afraid!

Also saw Wingpig this evening on Broomhouse path at half five this evening. Again, disguised as a car.

I went underneath the canal disguised as a car at about eight, if that's any help...

Were you looking for the other car that went "under" the canal the other day?

Was that Uberuce turning left out of Ashley Terrace about 6:45 on Sunday? I said hello, but didn't get much of a response, so then wasn't sure if I was right. I was on my road bike, wearing a red coat.

I was about to post the same in reverse, because I'd seen a cyclist who looked a hell of a lot like Fimm, only more roadie-clad than I usually see you, wisely hanging back as a number 38 came barrelling through the pinchpoint at the last block.

I did say a generic hello back, but to be honest I had by this point convinced myself it wasn't you because I had wrongly identified your bike as not being yours. I therefore thought you were a member of the general populace pointing out the crazy barrelling of the bus. I am fail.

Ah. I wondered if you hadn't recognised me because I was in roadie rather than wisob mode! The yellow Giant road bike (which I assume is the bike you are thinking of) is now deceased, and I have the black & red bike with the rack that you saw instead. It is quite new.

Your rather cautious hello was what led me to wonder if I had in fact said hello to some other man with a large beard...

"led me to wonder if I had in fact said hello to some other man with a large beard"

Lot of them about (very trendy amongst young people in that Lundun).

After watching Lancasters today I spotted this:

A fair few bikes being dragged around the Low Green at the Ayr Airshow on Saturday, with lots going back north up NCN7 afterwards, though far outnumbered by people just bimbling on whatever road or footway took their fancy as soon as the Vulcan had made its last pass.
Briefly saw one Lanc through the gaps between some houses on Sunday morning. My informants a few miles outside Conningsby had warned me when they'd left, flying over their house in the process.

Last Friday on Corstorphine Road, just east of Western Corner there was a guy cycling an MTB using just one leg on the pedals, the other hanging to his side. As I passed the other direction, I noticed it was because his right knee was very badly cut and bloodied. Assume he had come off somewhere but decided to press bravely on.

Not spotted: Lancasters on Saturday. Cue much disappointment.

Although given said airshow was free, we bravely soldiered on and had a grand old time regardless.

cc on his Pastoorfiets MMW this morning. Saw the low set dynamo light of a bike I thought was a Brompton but turned out to be a whole lot larger!

Also saw Instography a few days ago.

I was on the galvanised (into action!) PaperBike last few days.
