I think that is him, yes. Perhaps the garment is an improvised one-off?

I was thinking about it after we crossed journeys. I was wondering if it had the effect of pooling the water, which might then slop out en masse into his lap. I also wondered how it handled blustery cross-winds. And what happens if he had to do a speedy dismount and forgot to unclip it.

I wonder if Rainlegs would be a better option?

I'm about to convert my old hillwalking waterproofs into cyling over-shorts. (If Madame IWRATS will kindly remind me how to use a sewing machine for the nineteenth time.)

It never occured to me to make a rain apron. We have a low porch over the front door of the house. It projects one metre twenty and only just keeps the front door dry. Rain in Scotland comes obliquely at best and often horizontally.

Come to think of it, maybe I'll use the iron to melt the seams on the rain shorts?

@cb that is quite a video that Rainlegs has on its site! It seems like quite a nice idea just so long as you can avoid having anyone actually see you putting them on...

Spotted Dave this evening, White Frighting along the canal at the North Meggetland bridge.

    Spotted ACSimpson this morning.

Spotted Kappers on York Place, as I was crossing the road to Conan Doyle pub pushing my ride. He was too fast for me to catch him before I turned into the Bus Station.

I passed Lilac Helmet Lady on the aqueduct and was able to enquire after her well being. She reports that she is well.

USD Riser Bar Guy, having failed to return many greetings failed to respond to my comedy cycling over a patch of grass at Wester Hailes to avoid conflict with him. I'm not sure I like him.

A new idiot made his debut - Rear Facing Wrong Side Riding MTB Man. Took Bridge 6C at speed on the right hand side of the path looking over his shoulder to see the bike he'd just nearly crashed into. As a result I got a foretaste of the odd taste/smell that results from getting hit in the face. Had to ride on the last inch of the bridge parapet to avoid becoming his second victim. If I'd had time to think about it I'd have been in the drink.

I passed Lilac Helmet Lady at Meggetland and went with a comedy horrified expression on this occasion, which appeared to amuse her... I did this because I had just witnessed a slowish rider ahead of me attempting to overtake an even slower rider who was ahead of them. Unfortunately the overtake was attempted at the long, blind corner at Meggetland. At the point that the two cyclists were alongside each other, LHL came into view around the corner heading towards them. Clearly quite unperturbed, the overtaker kept on going and completed the move, which forced LHL to slow down considerably. She seemed to remain very good natured about it all...

I suspect Lilac Helmet Lady to be very good natured. She has responded generously to all of my mummery.

Did you like her new burgundy/lilac jacket? Reminded me that I need to get a replacement for my Night Vision Evo, which I'm reluctant to ditch as it was a leaving present from a job I was very fond of, but which now leaks like the Metropolitan Police.

Dave yesterday evening and this morning.

Besides specific named CCylistsE I can now reliably recognise about twelve opposite-direction and three same-direction cyclists (and one regular dog-handler) on the WoL/NEPN, though as most of them have been recognised in the context of doing something stupid and selfish (except the dog walker, who always waits with his dog at the side of the path) and because I'm me there is no regular greeting/banter with any of them.

I keep seeing a gentleman whom I assume is from here.

He is 'mature' with a shortish neat grey/white beard, yellow jacket, I think black bike with rack-pack which has a red bit on it and we pass at the ped/cycle lights at the bottom of MacDonald Road as I emerge from the CP beside the refuse works and I think he is heading down there, having come along from (I think) Bonnington Toll. I'm usually escorting Mrs Scoosh on her way up MacD Rd on my black hybrid (or occas on the 'bent) with a yellow/orange stripe waistcoat and have never managed to pause long enough to be courteous and enquire as to his well-being and his Username !

My apologies, Sir - but please let me know who you are - or does anyone else want to shop him/ give him away ?

@IWRATS I'm afraid that I haven't yet clocked LHL's new burgundy/lilac jacket, but I will look out for it. Have you tried rewaterproofing your jacket or is it holey? I washed mine recently using Nikwax so can report back...

Spotted heading on path towards Bruntsfield LInks. Going at reasonable lick for a 'load bike' uphill. Heading up in direction of EBC?

Was with small LB group about to go between bollards at Meadow Place.

New Riese und Müller Load with Bosch assist. Anyone else here spotted yet?
Riese und Müller fully suspended lightish weight electro assist cargo bike

Was in distinctive lime green colour. Cost on road new - around £4k.

@scoosh -loving it. he looks like he could fettle an a symmetric bottom bracket onto a mixte frame whilst complaining about housing encroachment on the greenbelt causing car drivers to behave badly?

I would like to think that Crowriver is too young to fit that description (as I figure he's about my age); if I'm wrong....

    @ Scoosh

Maybe the problem is that you don't look like a CCEer so don't get spotted...

A lot of mutual spotting is because people have met at PY or PoP.

Recombodna once spotted me on the back of me "looking like I was on here". I can't do what Gembo said though.

I now realise that the skateybearded double-bar-end-mirror-toting careless person I've been glaring at over the past few weeks for his dicey overtakes towards me on the NEPN, usually just clockwise of Crewe Toll, must be IWRATS's 2Kool4Skool.
