    Chap on an Orange Brompton heading west on the towpath at about 1830 this evening. Only of note because I was on my black Brompton going the other way.

    If it was you, I waved only because I recognised a kindred spirit on a bike that's not best-suited for riding across the aqueduct...

    I was alert enough this morning to spot Dave on the towpath. He was heading east, enjoying (I assume) the benefit of a following wind. I was heading west, and not enjoying the headwind.

    @Dave I'm a bit worried about my front light. Do you happen to remember whether or not it dazzled you?

    Gentleman with a magnificent beard, a sky blue buff worn Jack Sparrow style and a trailer hitched to a commuter, perambulating down Gilmerton Road at 08h25 with his kleines kinder.

    Got...to be somebody on here?

    Spoke to a gent at the Holy Corner traffic lights sporting a set of revolights. Very impressed with them, but perhaps a bit expensive for my taste, as on top of the $200 he had to pay import tax on them also. Ouch. (Taken a screengrap from my video but i don't know how to upload an image file :(

    Not sure if it counts as a Spot* but: Condor2378, as I was helping his distraught offspring remember that a 'missing' gym bag had in fact been deliberately left in the classroom.

    I told him it reminded me of the time I spent 45 minutes looking for a BB tool that I had forgotten I didn't own because I'd borrowed the one I used last time.

    He then asked if I was on CCE.

    Yeah, I guess that kinda anecdote makes that a solid guess.

    *was a pre-arranged meet since child collection is part of the routine, or does the fact it wasn't arranged as Condor and Uberuce mean it's a Spot? Spottington Crescent rule vultures: attack!

    Spotted: Uberuce!

    I think we can claim it as a spot, but only once as we'd be posting nearly every day.

    Nice to finally meet a fellow CCE'er and put a face to a name. Who knew what a discussion about bottom brackets could lead to?

    "Who knew what a discussion about bottom brackets could lead to?"

    That's a leading question...

    Mutual cargo bike spot today around 5:30pm. I was on the Urban Arrow with the kids traversing Liberton Rd to Craigmillar Park junction and was spotted by a black Bullitt waiting at lights on Gordon Terrace. Presume someone on here?

    It was Kaputnik's external BB tool, for the record.

    I now own a pleasantly overengineered Park Tools device of that ilk, but my BB tool Yoda is the dude in the Bike Works who has sourced and constructed his own internal BB yanker that screws into the axle so you can safely give it laldy.

    Weezee - black Bullit might have been dark green one owned by Roibeard?
    (Hope your saddle is now staying put with new clamp/post. Can cut down if you need)

    @weezee *waves*

    I've spotted the Urban Arrow stationary before, and my daughter claimed several moving spots as you went past, yet it was my first moving spot.

    She asked if I knew you, but I was just working on the "smile at owner of other peculiar bike" principle!

    Good guess LaidBack - it looks black in low light or in many photos, but is British Racing Green... Although I'm sure the designers will correct me regarding the precise shade!

    Belated spot on what must surely have been one of your customers - tadpole trike (probability dictates ICE) on Gordon Terrace on Wednesday morning.

    @Laidback - saddle great, thanks. I'm enjoying the longer stretch in the legs (IWRATS would approve!) but probably should think about cutting down post so others can comfortably test drive/try out. No rush.

    @Roibeard How do! Do you think we could set up a cargo bike championships here like the one in Dublin? I quite fancy the jousting...

    @weezee

    IWRATS did approve last time he spotted Mr Weezee on Suffolk Road. One of the mini-Weezees returned my greeting on Mr Weezee's behalf too, which pleased me greatly. Mr Weezee was quite rightly concentrating on the traffic.

    There's a man I spot some morning out the window on London Road I call the Ninja Turtle. He wears a forest green helmet, with a matching green hi-viz vest which he has coordinated beautifully with a rucksack like this.

    @weezee - The cargo bike competitions sound fun, although you may have a "tailwind" advantage!

    The jousting looks good too, although those riding an 8Freight may have a distinct disadvantage...

    Spotted arellcat today where I normally do, the velo mobile taking the right down to longstone. Natty rain roof. Then in Harrison Gdns chap with bakfiets or similar bike with big bucket in front for kids. Flat cap wearing maybe recombodna? Anyway we said hi.

    Then heading down from canal at rubber factory the chap with the goggles and the handmade? Full length 1974 moped wind shield which is total nightmare to cycle into the wind

    Was at the bus stop on London Road this morning when a Wilmington's Cow came charging up the hill, hotly pursued (or coldly wheel-sucked) by a man in an older-style Quickstep top.

    @IWRATS Fairing Man. I pass him nearly daily, usually about Leamington Terrace. Now I have a name for him. Thanks. Why does he have that btw? Does he really not like the wind/cold?

    Also, I realise that I also daily see an older gent with beard, two tone high vis and skateboard (no vent type) helmet Cluny Drive/Comiston Place area every evening. Any takers?

    Posted 10 years ago #
  27. @kaputnik, wish I could have ridden him off my wheel, but the legs just weren't there. Distances him alittle on the flat, but he dived up agap alongside a bus that ididn't fancy.

    Yup, it's the cold. I don't know him, but I do know his (ex?) wife. Apparently he's a martyr to peripheral circulation as well as being a charming eccentric.

    @gembo

    I'm sure he does wear eye protection. He is a pathologist.

    Passed a guy on what looked like a Raleigh BSO riding rather impressively down the canal about 10.30am, over the cobbles under a bridge, with his hands in his pockets. I certainly would not be doing that given the shooglyness and the width of the path!

    Also bumped into a group of maybe 20 folks all on nice bikes and looking the part, at the top of Colinton Dells/WoL path. I was slightly lost at this point and they very kindly pointed me in the direction of the Canal towpath! If any CCEers were part of that group then thanks, you were all so smiley and I got (and gave) 20 good mornings!
