I passed a guy on a bike with moustache handlebars wrapped in yellow bar tape: Kaputnik?
This was on Saughton Crescent around 8.35, at the two nurseries.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

@Stickman, guilty! If you are who you think you are (based on recollection of who I passed around about there) then I think we may have been crossing paths for years!
I myself spotted a man on a (Dawes?) silver tandem, with a kiddy seat on the back, but no stoker, just passing under the bridge at the end of Balgreen Avenue which gives access to the Railway Path.
I usually wear anonymising commuter high-viz and ride a white bike. Except on a Friday when I usually ride my 3 speed wearing "normal" clothes.
I only noticed the handlebars as I passed as I was following my usual approach of watching out for drivers pulling out after dropping the kid off at the nursery.
Girl on a black Foffa single-speed mixte bringing a little bit of South Bank style to George Street.
Mum plus 2 kids piloting a Bakfiets towards the little cut-through between Broomhall and Ladywell. One of the chiddlers was about 9 months and in a car seat attached to the box, the other alongside on the bench. I was most impressed and expressed this sentiment to her as she let me through the chicane first.
Forgot to mention a spot of WeeZee, urban arrowing the WeeZettes out into Craigmillar Park yesterday.
Every time I see that bike I have hope for the future.
"little cut-through between Broomhall and Ladywell"
Presume there is still a sign calling it Ladebridge?
Presume there is still a sign calling it Ladebridge?
Not that I've ever seen, possibly hidden in the depth of the overgrown privet hedges.
I did not realise that there was traditionally a bridge over the Stank burn here. Wonder if the "Ladie" part of the name came from referring to the burn as a lade, or Ladywell as an area.
Ah The Stank. Have you ever followed its route?
Who was the chap with the green Bullitt that I shouted "nice bike!" to while exiting the roundabout at Picardy Place last night? A familiar face but I couldn't bring a name to mind.
roibeard?
Guilty as charged m'lud...
@dougal - perhaps we've met at Peter's Yard?
Robert
Aye, I made it to PY once a few months ago.
That must be the first 'spot' of roibeard that didn't say 'that smiley guy'. an effect of Picardy place roundabout perhaps?
I'd never thought about it, but Roibeard is indeed a man of good cheer. Good spot.
WeeZettes may well beat winpiglets in the highly competitive "best term for offspring based on their owner's forum name" category.
Think I bagged myself an Uberuce spot at around high noon today. Said beardy-bicyclist was testing the PE teacher's favourite maxim that skin is waterproof while waiting for a green light at the Belhaven Road/Comiston Road junction.
Did you mean Balcarres Street? If so, that was likely me.
Group of around 12 riders heading into Penicuik from Leadburn direction at around 3pm. Mix of drop and uprights so probably not road club.
We were heading back in from West Linton having taken the moor road.
Not so many out as freezing fog was not too pleasant.
The eternal Wilmington of the spotless Cow, ghoulishly photographing deceased bollards.
Surely not in George Street?
If in addition to his new green jacket,IWRATS has new Amber glasses and new ginger beard, spotted him on canal towpath. Same old ratty nineties hybrid.
Frisskiffla was ahead of him.
New back brakes not making much difference so went to The Cycle Service on way to office for new front pads. Met the cycling dude with the cooncil also seeking attention.
All was good.
DaveC and his acceptable fork-mounted light.
A man with a big video camera on a tripod filming Haymarket...
Recumbent trike heading through Haymarket.
Lots and lots of bikes coming in from South Queensferry (and beyond?) this morning. There wa sone every couple of hundred metres! Ths doesn't include those leaving Edinburgh. Didn't see acsimpson.
@gembo
Sorry for the half-nod. Was dreaming yesterday. Amber glasses a fixture for many years. Facial hair comes and goes depending on how Scottish (Albanian?) I feel.
Three-way spot this morning as @IWRATS, @jdanielp, Maximum Spaceman and his two dogs materialised concurrently on the same part of the towpath. Could have seen all five of us in the canal, but excellent bike handling, dog handling and courtesy skills were deployed.
And I thought I was the only Albanian on the forum.
(now waiting for DaveC to say something rude about facial hair...)
@Uberuce
Did you mean Balcarres Street? If so, that was likely me.
I think I meant Belhaven Terrace, but it does look like Balcarres Street joins it just before the junction. It's out of my manor, so I don't know the street names so well. :)
