dont be so hard on yourself, whilst claiming not to know who wingpig was you gave a pretty accurate description and you got me bang to rights.

are there any other people who you do not know and yet can describe with unnerring accuracy just if told their name? Could be a minor but nevertheless useful super power?

ASDA's special way of encouraging #ActiveTravel.

Not sure which Asda that is but surely the blue sign indicates it's an 'official' shared use path? Surely Asda doesn't have the right to ask people to dismount on a public shared use path, even bordering Asda property?

Should be grateful really. Knowing Asda's usual level of support for active travel I'm surprised they haven't installed broken glass on the ground / an impassable chicane / snipers.

"surely the blue sign indicates it's an 'official' shared use path?"

    Indeed.

@DaveC, I'm probably cycling a day a week less now that the clocks have changed but I'm also doing it 15 minutes later in the day which would go someway to explaining why our paths aren't crossing as frequently as in the summer.

IWRATS caught up with me just prior to the aqueduct this morning before cheerily overtaking and then pulling away seemingly effortlessly as I slogged into the headwind.

A little later on I passed Maximum Spaceman and his dogs on the section of the towpath west of Gogar Station Road bridge - while I was in the process of passing them, the kingfisher overtook me as it flew along the canal before landing on a branch just beyond the wide turning area.

Effortfully, I can assure you, though my cleaned and serviced drive train and new 4mm slimmer tyres did help. It always amazes me how quiet a bike is when it's been fettled.

That kingfisher is making a monkey of me.

Cyclist with one of those lights that project a bike onto the road in front of the cyclist, going along the Gorgie Road this morning.

To be honest, I saw their conventional front light first, though I did think that it had a greenish tinge to it; it was only as they got much closer that I spotted the projection thing.

@gembo Spotted that it was darker when I got off the train in Linlithgow this morning than it was when I left the flat half an hour earlier. That's some serious light pollution.

Spotted a Duck Egg Green Cotic Roadrat this morning on my way along Blackhall Path towards Craigleith. The rider overtook me, when I noticed his new shiney Cotic. I sped after him and rang my bell to get his attention. We then criused to the Y jct chatting about his new bike. Its a thing of beauty!! and very clean onm his first ride out on it. I have been thinking of getting my Cotic blasted and resprayed, as its showing its age now.

Spotted someone riding a Strida folding bike this evening, heading down through the High St/Jeffrey St junction. Unusual!

I chatted to a guy with a Blaze laser going down Morningside Road last night. First I knew he was there was when a very shaky and ill defined green bikey thing appeared under me. He admitted that it was just a gimmick and didn't really work under streetlights, but liked blasting a laser around the town. Fair play to him.

My understanding of the thinking behind the Blaze is that it projects your presence out of a bigger vehicle's blind spot. So if you're in an ASL with an HGV right behind you, they might register there's a bike in front of them even if they can't see you.

@chdot - chained up. I didn't even get a good enough look to see if it was drop barred, but I'm fairly sure it was the same kind of frame as his.

Roibeard with sprog on Lauder Road (I put this up in case he was wondering about the odd bloke shouting at him)

@amir - I recognised the odd bloke, but only after the greeting!

"Little'un" was in discomfort today, so I was concentrating on her.

She came off properly yesterday, but without a driver's intervention - seems to have failed in mounting a kerb whilst clearing a path for an emergency vehicle, resulting in a decent set of bruises, grazing and swelling, yet got back on the bike to get home!

Icepack applied, etc when I got to her, but she'll be tender for a while...

Shame. My first bad off at a slightly older age was under not dissimilar circs. It happens. We all learn. Hope she's not too discouraged.

You'll be a proud dad then? Hope she gets better soon. I still have a big white patch where I revealed my kneecap in my first decent bike spill.

Interestingly there was a lovely Duck Egg 'rat parked next to my scruffy black one at work this week. Looks very shiny and new. Made me want to repaint mine too!

Last night I was walking into town for a few jars when I spied the red torpedo (and presumably Arellcat) waiting at the junction of Atholl Place and Manor Place at around 1920, presumably on her way to encounter the poorly parked BMW near Charlotte Square.

I stared quite a lot at the red torpedo. So shiny!
