I successfully spotted, caught up with and conversed with shuggiet this morning, unintentionally distracting him as we negotiated prime kingfisher spotting territory.

Spot the first, a kid on a small bike with drop bars mashing on the NEPN, followed by (?) dad and younger sister on tagalong, at about 6.30 last night.
Spot the second, a proper frankenbike outside the Brass Monkey at 7.00, with step-through upright frame and full suspension forks.

Spotted Wilmington's Cow* traversing Melville Drive who gave a cheery reciprocal wave. I was disguised as a joggist at the time.
*actually noticed the bike first and thought that looks like WC's steed, then twigged it actually was WC sans cap.

edd1e_h I think, turning off Pinkhill Railway Path and into Pinkhill Park. Certainly a dark old Raleigh with drop bars and a rear hub gear

Went for a walk in the Pentlands today and...
On the way out of Balerno was passed by fimm in lycra mode. As she approached I was looking too hard at the bike (which I thought might be a cross bike for going over the Pentlands) to notice until the last minute who was riding it.
Driving along Morningside Drive on the way home we passed firstly Morningsider walking with two little Morningsiders and secondly MrSRD on the Helios with microSRD in the stoker's seat. Much respect to them if they had just pedalled up the steep hill at Craighouse.

@greenroofer yesterday was farmer's market and tattie day in Balerno, my salad Blues are chitting nicely. Also in the evening we had Pride for our movie at the Village Screen. (VIP guest Mr and Mrs Big Ged) It was all happening, I would also have given you a clue as to where John Lennon stayed that night in 1964 (Currie, not Balerno) in the quiz. Other questions? Which is the highest peak in the pentlands, what was a waulk mill for?

Lady with great-looking Condor Fratello on the Queen Street train this morning. Anyone here?

@Greenroofer were you part of the group of walkers on the road just out of Balerno? Most of the group were looking in my direction but as if they were waiting for a straggler to catch up so I didn't really note them (apart from as people to be passed with courtesy, of course). I'd been on a bit of a hill-climbing mission, and was feeling it by then, too!)

@fimm - Yup, and we were indeed waiting for a straggler to catch up. I was the one in the Tilley Hat (who by the end of the walk was wishing it kept my ears a bit warmer)

Nelly on the Broomhouse Path just after the tram overbridge, I was disguised as barely functional runner who did wave.

Hankchief this evening on his Helios...
...which was towing a tagalong...
...which was towing a trailer.I think this breaks the record currently held by Biketrain for the longest pedal-powered contraption in Edinburgh.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Oh, you noticed...
I just had my trailer returned by a colleague and wanted to get it home, so thought why not add it to the back.
It was fine in a straight line...

@gembo, yes, that was me. I was on my way to Haymarket since it's better for bikes than Fortress Waverley.
Posted 9 years ago # -
nelly it was first thing, I expect you were in autopilot. I was! Not quite addicted enough for the lunchtime run yet just finding more productive ways to spend a nominally 1 mile commute.
Posted 9 years ago # -
@HankChief did traffic treat you any differently? (the WTF? factor...)

I used to see a guy on a big upright dutch bike taped with yellow electric tape so it looked like a big Scandinavian mechanical wasp. He also happened to have furry kitten ears stuck to his helmet.
I now see him on a different part of my commute on a red road bike, with a classic early 90s hemispherical Equipe Z helmet. Also with furry kitten ears on it.

@fimm - Hard to tell - I'm quite a sight when I just have the tagalong on.
My route home was mostly off road paths (/ pavements) so it was mainly peds I had to deal with. Needless to say I was warning them that I was long as I feared them thinking I had passed and stepping back into middle of path.

A slightly confused looking Kenny at our semi - usual morning spotting point this afternoon but in the opposite direction. I was also in disguise on my pub bike (+ tagalong) heading to the pub.
