Recombodna +daughter on road bikes downhill out of the Innocent tunnel on Sunday afternoon. We were warding a pram up the hill. The little one thought the tunnel was the best thing ever and squealed excitedly all the way to the top.

Until they discover bricks. :-)

@WC heading WITH the flow of pedestrians. We were late leaving the house to go and watch the match in the pub, You'd think after a year living next to the stadium we'd know not to leave it so late by now!
Hope you enjoyed the match...es atmosphere...

A pair cyclists riding side by side city bound on Queensferry road at rushhour tonight. One of whom was towing a barrel of Bell's whiskey on a trailer.
They also had a motorbike rider at the front and an escort vehicle behind.
A bit of goggling and It looks like it was Barrel of Laughs. A 500 mile ride to the Help for Heros recovery centre in Hampshire from Blair Atholl.

Not quite as unusual as a whisky barrel, but I saw someone towing what I thought was a shopping trolley this evening. I found the BikeHod which is similar, although this was in hi-viz yellow material like an Ortlieb and didn't have such a long attachment bar. Possibly a homebrew?
Very handy looking thing anyway.

At Tollcross this morning, I was passed by someone riding a Kaffenback with bullhorn bars - might have been Baldcyclist (judging by pictures on a recent thread on the ultimate commuter bike)?

@NiallA Indeed, that was most likely me, I remember passing someone on a hybrid type bike with a pannier on each side, might have been wearing a blue jacket?
I was sleeping a little bit when the lights went to green at 'Goldbergs' I think, and then turned off onto the meadows.

"Possibly a homebrew? Very handy looking thing anyway."
Some years ago my father-in-law created some arrangement (probably involving No More Nails or silicone sealant) for dragging his golf-trundlebag behind his bike. Being presumably more robust, they're presumably a better starting-point for such a project than a standard shopping trolley. If competently attached.

Hankchief, I spotted them crossing the Forth Road Bridge. I didn't however see any escort vehicles. I guess they were waiting at the other side.

Exchanged a cheery greeting with gembo on the towpath this evening. He was cheery, at least. I raised a solemn hand.
A bit later I was trundling up the steep hill at Craighouse debating internally whether to overtake the cyclist in front* when I noticed his rear light (at least I think it was a light). It was a red glowing thing showing a stylised image of a bicyle. It might have been a projector. It wasn't hugely bright in the daylight, but it was very interesting.
*after 5 years of doing that hill every day on my way home, I'm quicker than many people up it and am pleasingly able to do it in a considerably higher gear than I used to be. I am decidedly not quicker than Uberuce, whose Strava time for the segment is significantly less than mine. This is a lesson for me in humility.

Found them...

In your defence, Greenroofer, my PR on that climb was set on a bike which is ideally suited to a short hill blast; very light, very stiff, very unladen by things like mudguards, lights, luggage etc.
Posted 9 years ago # -
@Uberuce. Yup, that's it. If I didn't have a dynamo on my bike I'd beat you up that hill any time. I sure that's the only reason you're quicker: lack of a dynamo.

You'll notice I'm not asking for a rematch on disco floofy, of dynamo ilk.

Ouch, those BikeHods are expensive...
Spotted on Gorgie Road this morning, a woman towing a thing a bit like a BikeHod, but with a cardboard box rather than a fancy bag.Posted 9 years ago # -
@fimm: it was a woman I saw with the trailer thing, so might be the same person.
(Just working on balance of probabilities here: it was such an unusual set up that I don't imagine there will be many around)

An Edinburgh Bike Co-op Revolution Shadow belt-drive bike was parked in the shed that I use at work this morning so I took a bit longer than usual locking up my bike while having a nosy at it, only having previously seen them hanging up in the shop or passing by in town. It certainly looked smart, and clearly has far higher gearing than my non-belt-drive, but similarly Alfine 8 hub geared Charge Grater 3, although the pannier rack mounting appeared distinctly inelegant in comparison.

wingpig, on Constitution Street just after Ocean Way. I was disguised in the car.

I was spotted by gembo on the aqueduct this evening while giving way to a pedestrian, a jogger, and a cyclist, the latter of whom enquired if I had spotted any kingfishers (I hadn't) before asking if I was 'jdanielp' (I was) and then introducing himself. Nice to meet and fist bump you!

Gembo, just about to sail down to Colinton village.
Being early morning, I addressed you incorrectly: ie by your name rather than fist-pumping and chanting Gembo.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Yes threw me slightly also seemed taller and more lithe than your average uberuce, but with the beard so knew it had to be you

"fist-pumping and chanting Gembo"
I think I've seen this mentioned before. May one ask why?Posted 9 years ago # -
It is a salutation
If agreeable I will punch the air and shout Fimm three times next time
I high five a social worker I am fond of when we pass on towpath
and I gave jdanielp The Knuckles
breaKS THE monotony

Roslin's clean country air has done my chub some harm, so I am only 94% of the Uberuce you are used to.

fimm, I think this is where it originated:

I'm not sure I really get the fist bumping thing either, though I understand it's quite the thing in USAnia.

@chdot - can we have a bit more explanation please?
While in Morningside this afternoon I spotted a boy who'd I'd guess was of upper primary school age on a tricycle with BMX-style 20" (I guess) wheels heading along Canaan Lane. The trike was black and very cool-looking. I suppose he might have been riding it because he has trouble balancing a two-wheel bike, but equally it was cool enough that he might simply have been riding it because he wanted to. I can imagine that it would be a total blast cornering it at speed...
