@gembo thank you. It's ...erm... distinctive. So distinctive in fact that someone (tarmac jockey?) posted a picture on Flickr from PoP of me and Sgt Quentin in discussion, both of us wearing distinctive peaked caps. His was even more distinctive than mine, being fluorescent and having 'Police' written on it...

@Arellcat on the Balgreen Tram side path as I was ferrying someone else's kids on their first tram / train waving trip.
A good result this morning: 2 ding dings and a toot.

At the Slateford aqueduct today I bumped into Mrs ianfieldhouse, who was out running. Then after a successful trip to the DIYer's delights of Hermiston Gait came back into town into a fearful headwind, spotting the HankChief roadtrain en route.
Spotted a heron on the WoL near the ice rink, then said hello to Kim and Ulli as we converged at Laid Back Bikes.

I spotted on Facebook that mikael Colville-Andersen has his red bakfiets back after several months in christiana. Will double check but he still hasn't locked it. Seems a similar tale to the Peter's yard cargo bike.

Parked police motorcycle completely blocking the cycle lane on Slateford Road this morning.

Two Bromptons at the start of W1A last night. I laughed out loud at the dialogue involving some not-so-subtle one-upmanship about one being titanium, but thought that most of the audience wouldn't have had a clue about how accurate it was...

Waiting in a bus at the West End of Princes Street this afternoon, I watched with amusement as a gent in suit came haring out of Charlotte Square on a flat-barred bike, closely followed by three others in more traditional cycling attire, but still going at some speed.
There's something quite cool about people riding fast in suits (something about the way the jacket flies in the wind and the general unsuitability of the clothing). I don't know what he was doing, and whether there was perhaps some silly commuter racing going on, but it looked good...

Patrick Harvie MSP this afternoon, cycling along the Clyde path near Central station, and doing the Dutch thing perfectly.

Seconding the coolness factor of a man zooming along in a nice suit. Shiny shoes a bonus!
As I was waiting to turn out of Rosebery Crescent last night a bearded chap heading east was telling off a car shoving out across the lane when there was no space to go anywhere (and without looking for cyclists) - a loud "Wait! Wait!" with a raised hand. Was that anyone here? Then my new bike got chatted up by the man from the Anvil.
Met two French ladies on fully-laden tourers as I turned off onto the path to Roseburn this morning.

"Then my new bike got chatted up"
I hope he didn't have dishonourable intentions?

@unhurt - was bearded chap riding a green drop-barred Salsa and wearing a red jacket and yellow helmet? If so, hi and apologies for the visual assault!
Posted 9 years ago # -
@adamthekiwi: I think you may be he! But the driver did need telt off, so any eye-assaults are entirely forgiven :)
@dougal: I'm mostly concerned that I actually remember that story from back in 2007! Wonder if the chap involved has found true love yet...

SRD and (mini?) SRD at meadows kkids footie fest.
My mate Andy is also a keen cyclist as well as a footie dad!

A distinct lack of any PoP flags following the main event. Mine is still attached to the back of my pannier rack, but I have been removing it on wet mornings to prevent it from becoming papier-mâché. Other than that, it was nearly torn into two by the wind one evening, but I taped it up again.

Nelly cruising through the meadows with distinctive black cap and carradice combo (too far away at that point to identify the bike).
@jdanielp I still have laminated A5 pop leaflet on front of my bike,

Rather cool recumbent tandem thing (upright rider behind the prone person) with trailer in Kinross lunchtime today. French couple heading on to Perth.
Posted 9 years ago # -
@jdanielp - my PoP flag (I only managed to hang on to one) is far too precious to risk being destroyed, although now you've mentioned it, I might attach it to the Brompton for the Cycling Embassy AGM (all the best diplomatic vehicles have a flag on the front)

Hase Kettwiesel Evo with Shimano Steps motor. Full suspension trike. by LaidBackBikes, on Flickr
Maybe the most unusual item we've sold yet. After days of trying I've finally got back onto the Yahoo'd version of Flickr. Some browsers will not show this video now though....

A slightly unorthodox view of Leith Walk on this morning's ride.
A failed experiment to mount my camera below the bars - the cable housing jumped back in front of the lens before I even got going.
I only bothered keeping it because it shows every pothole in a very satisfying visual manner.

A faint single rainbow as I headed east into town this evening as opposed to the impressively strong rainbow with a faint double rainbow slightly earlier yesterday.

An abandoned MTB on NEPN, its saddle a short distance from the frame and shards of less specific debris scattered about.

Did someone with a child in a seat heading west on the NEPN between the turnoff to Victoria Park and Five Ways spot me on Monday evening?

I have semi-regularly started spotting a well dressed (tweed or cord jackets) Sikh gent cycling around the Eglinton/Glencairn Crescent area of a morning riding a classic steel-frame road bike with a large Carradice holdall type saddle bag. Was towing a trailer the other day.
It raised a question in my mind about the sort of people who regularly feel a "right" / obligation to preach from the polystyrene gospel at someone not wearing a helmet. Would they bite their tongue if it was someone wearing a turban?

"people who regularly feel a "right" / obligation to preach from the polystyrene gospel at someone not wearing a helmet"
Haven't had that for a while, maybe 'personal choice' is getting through(?)
Was in the vicinity of ERI and KB after 5 everyone seemed to have helmets (and much hiviz) - contrast from mid-day mid-town.

@kaputnik
I regularly see that chap, usually with a child in the trailer.

Maybe should put this across on the h*@#*t thread in case it starts off a bigger debate, but to be on the safe side I'll stick to the 'spotted' element
On the Fred Whitton ride at the weekend there was a 'no lid no ride' rule but an exception was obviously made for a Sikh gent we saw out on the road.

Is it still the law that Sikhs are exempt from wearing a motorcycle helmet if they are wearing a turban?
On the hi-vis side of things, I've enjoyed being in just a t-shirt this week, but it seems 80% of riders are keeping their jackets on just in case of capricious weather...
