Bike ability class from one of the local primary schools heading down our street five minutes ago. All in bright bright pink hi viz tabards. And walking their bikes on the pavement.

Min - the light blue retro tandem is owned by James T. He has a bike parts shop on Broughton St. Regular at shop next door.
Cool. It was very nice.

Two clearly stolen motorbikes crossing Gorgie Road at Robertson Avenue around 4.15 today.
All four on the bikes had no helmets, hoods up and scarves over their faces. They didn't look in control of the bikes either.

We had 3 groups from Duddingston PS out first thing this morning, and another three out later in the am.
We are always on the lookout for more volunteers to help deliver Bikeability in Newcraighall/Craigmillar/Porty/Duddingston..........

Ah, most likely the group I saw in the Durhams then (sadly I see you while I'm sat with a laptop on my knee working). Were you the chap with the singlespeed, or t'other one?
Posted 10 years ago # -
Yes, I was the SS chappie. I hope my group were good neighbours.

Certainly fine by me! I was happy to see o many of them out with the bikes. And they're good quiet gridded streets for learning - I was just slightly confused as to why the bikes were being walked, guessed it was down to access from and to the main road.
EDIT: which is a sad indictment given all of the streets around here are traffic-calmed and 20mph!

TBH, its the school being a wee bit over cautious.
Ideally, we would 'snake' them on road, but its early days in the school embracing Bikeability.
Hopefully next term, more teachers/volunteers will bring their bikes (not just those who agree to demonstrate) and will be confident enough to lead their group on road. Baby steps!

There used to be quite a lot of wall here once.
Before that there was a belief that planning would be refused for this site because of the access on to a bend on Myreside Road.

Spotted in the Meadows 5pm; a black recombant tandem with upright stoker and single wheel laden cargo trailer. It looked a nice setup. Any takers?

@chdot My recollection from a message I had from Morrisons (posted on here somewhere) after I complained about the rocks on the road here is that the wall had been taken down to improve sightlines, with the impression that it would go back up again after they'd finished. Certainly, all the bits of wall are all stacked up on pallets there.
My further recollection from the planning application for the REH work is that there are going to be traffic lights here eventually...

Thanks.
Wonder what "eventually" will mean!

Guy playing very good amplified slide guitar at leamington lift bridge tonight about six pm
Made me compose the following verse of blues
I can twist pretty baby
In the comfort of our home
I can twist pretty baby
In the comfort of our home
I am going down three times
Lord you can be coming up twicePosted 10 years ago # -
Someone playing Journey of the Sorceror at MMW/NMW when I went past at half five.

@chdot. I've reminded myself about the REH planning application. I don't think that wall is going back up again in its entirety. Here's the transport assessment from the Council Planning Portal, and the plan seems to show a wider road there. In Phase 1 it will just be a junction, but when Phase 2 is built it will have traffic lights.

A cyclist with a very nice "ding-dong" bell and a Pedal on Parliament flag heading into town along the canal about 6:50pm yesterday evening. I was disguised as a pedestrian.

youngster - 12 maybe? definitely not much older - cycling down Gilmore place confidently (cockily even?) on a mountain bike and trendy but ill-fitting helmet, dashed around all the obstacles, track-stood at junction, then cycled onto pavement to make left-hand turn. presume he must have been heading to st thomas of acquin (didn't look like a heriots uniform), so must have been heading through Tollcross and up Lauriston?
Torn between being delighted that he was allowed to ride to school, and was clearly more than confident in doing so, and despairing that he is bound to come to harm...

Kaputnik at the roundabout by Big Yellow Storage, having just Spotted someone else, I think.
Posted 10 years ago # -
Hadn't spotted someone else (although I did earlier pass Fimm going the opposite way from me on Dalry Road), I was flipping the bird at a taxi driver who had passed me at top speed with inches to spare as we approached the roundabout. Fortunately he had his offside windows down so I could easily deliver some comparisons of him to certain bodily parts without recourse to raise my voice too much.

algo, hankchief, snowy, greenroofer, arellcat and many others at opening of Gogar Station Road.
Posted 10 years ago # -
@fimm that was me! Glad that I kept the flag on the bike.

"..opening of Gogar Station Road."
Saw this on twitter. Dutch style infrastructure coming to Edinburgh, there must be a disturbance in the space time continuum or something...

Nice to meet Snowy, Biketrain and HankChief at the GSR extravaganza and catch up with Greenroofer, Kaputnik and Arellcat. Very pleasant cycle back into town with gembo too (until Haymarket)
Posted 10 years ago # -
Did he misbehave at Haymarket??

Hello jdanielp! I nearly said "nice bell" to you at the time, so I will say it now instead. :-)
Didn't see kaputnik at all - but then there are so many cyclists on Dalry Road even at 7:30am that I don't really notice them.
Posted 10 years ago # -
Ha - not us m'lud. Generalised confusion on the part of everyone due to the melée of incompatible forms transport all in the same place at the same time.
Posted 10 years ago # -
@fimm hello! Whereabouts exactly did you spot me, on the off-chance that I remember anything about anybody I saw?
Posted 10 years ago # -
I think it was on the section between the Yeaman Place and Viewforth bridges; but I was also heading into town so you would have just seen the back of a pedestrian in a purple coat.
