This morning on the towpath near Wester Hailes, a woman heading into town on a bike towing a trailer with a crate holding three large drums of something. They were the kind of drums you get fence paint or chicken manure pellets in, but it was a bit early for a trip from B&Q.

Bikefan on the towpath this morning on a shiny black Brompton. We didn't exchange greetings as I think we were both distracted by the slightly unpredictable behaviour of the bike in front of him.

Mini-Greenroofer and I were returning from our PfS training (which we are taking very seriously).

I wasn't aiming for a follow-through on the high 5, merely a gesture of intent; even at relatively sedate canal pace, the oncoming speed of a fellow cyclists can leave fingers and palms smarting.

I quite like that tingle in the morning, makes you wake up a bit but on way home could be sore.

Where were you? I was watching that wee child on a seat who was holding a wee turning-right signal all the way round from Colinton Road.

An associate who married an American lady just over a year ago recently described the weirdness of being subjected to his first high-five request.

I came into the Colinton Rd ASZ just as your lights changed and you cycled past me, so I missed the signal-carrying child.

@gembo did you greet me on the towpath this morning? I did at least manage to offer a generic return greeting upon hearing my username, but I failed to actually spot you again. I clearly need to pay more attention! Sorry.

@gembo oh, I didn't even register yesterday (did I react automatically or just blank you?). I'd be up for a high five, which might help to consolidate you in my memory.

We nearly managed that high five at jdanielp. I did make myself known to you I feel.

Indeed, maybe next time. I've successfully high-fived random pedestrians before now, but I can now say that the closing speed of an attempted high-five between cyclists is quite intimidating...

Spotted a recumbent triker coming along the towpath at Harrison Park, as I was just remounting having walked my bike slowly past a family of ducklings. Turned out to be AlanR, so we had a lovely wee chat.

Twofer, a recumbent sized gap in space time that I think would have been occupied by Dave were he visible at the bottom of Lanark Road about 0800 and a high five with Gembo on the canal.

Nice to see Steveo been missing the all black garb. Also nice bell coming under bridge, turned out was jdanielp

@gembo thank you for the bell appreciation. Just to say that I didn't intend to avoid a high-five this morning, it is just that I automatically take the other branch when I see a cyclist coming the other way at the brief two-way stretch of path at Wester Hailes. By the time I realised that it was you, it was too late. Having said that, it may have been a partially unconscious decision given that our fairly low-speed high-five the other day turned out to be surprisingly sore in the short-term...

@steveo aha! I caught and passed a cyclist just after rounding the left-hand bend prior to the Scott Russell Aqueduct - was that you? I don't remember spotting any other cyclists ahead of me beyond that general area...
