I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen our performing comrade for some time.

Which reminds me I bumped into him in the pub the other weekend and had a good catchup. And didn't recognise him at first either.

And Croix de Instography this evening on St. Andrew Square.

Queen Street/Queen Street Gardens East this PM - at first glance a commuter in normal attire with a red rear pannier (no helmet). On second glance - shod in cowboy boots! Nice.

Mentioned it to my brother who linked me to this: http://bikeportland.org/2008/07/29/photo-of-the-day-spd-cleats-in-cowboy-boots-8239

which has me wondering how easy it might be to adapt other non-spd footwear similarly...

Following on from me spotting one of those speed showing rear lights on the weekend, tonight I saw some revolving lights .

Have to say I was quite taken by them as they help to make the bike look bigger and quite easy to work out what you are looking at.

One of my bugbears/prejudices about bike lights is that they don't convey the width of a bike/cyclist and so don't encourage wide passes.

Last winter I frequently saw someone with Revolights - usually on Pinkhill-Roseburn route, saw may be same person?

    I agree, they are impressive.

I've spotted sequential numbers painted along the Innocent Railway - the spacing makes me think these are positions for lights to be installed. Anyone heard any gossip on this?

Finally spotted the BMX track next to Musselburgh race course - the one I think Wilmington's Cow posted a video of. Turns out I've been cycling past it for years without knowing.

Surely worthy of a CCE outing to see who can do the most absurd, elegant or dangerous lap?

As mentioned elsewhere @jdanielp overtook me this evening as I was ambling home enjoying the still evening by the canal. We exchanged pleasantries then he set off into the distance at a higher speed than me, having made some tactful mutterings about needing to hurry home because he had a low battery warning [these can be avoided by putting a dynamo on your bike...]

I was disappointed to note that only his right pedal seemed to be flashing...

@Greenroofer I'm pleased to say that I made it home with a still functional front light. It would seem that the built in rechargable batteries are down on capacity given that I used to get a full working week of commuting from a single charge. If the capacity continues to drop off, then I will seriously consider installing a dynamo hub and some lights to my commuter bike at some point in the future given that I was quite envious of yours this evening. Are you sure it was the right pedal that was flashing? When I made it home just the left pedal flashing. They're a tad temperamental.

Spotted at KB crossing by a pink lady of this parish, whose forum name I forget...

Apologies that recognition took so long to dawn on me!

Suicyclist heading down Easter Road on a nice MTB - no lights and closely scutinising a mobile telephone which he was manipulating with both hands.

@wingpig - given the volume of leaf jam on my commute home I've mused on whether the studlies might be the safest option...

@snowy, last night (apparently). According to Strava we went on a ride together, but I have absolutely no recollection of this. Maybe the Fly-by can shed some light on this.

    [Goes off to check]

Ah yes, it appears that I followed Snowy home along the towpath for several miles and came past just after the railway bridge at Kingsknowe. I now realise Snowy was the rider that waved me past.

My apologies for not saying hello. One downside of fancy-schmancy lights is that you can't see anyone's face in the dark...

@greenroofer Ah yes. I was bimbling along at a middling pace because I was chatting to my colleague following behind. I recognised your bell as you overtook but my greeting was lost in the confusion of light and sound. You were following another melodious bell-user - @jdanielp perchance?

@Snowy hmm, I'm struggling to remember anything specific about my cycle home on Friday although I would have been on the towpath between around 18:25 (Heriot-Watt) and 18:50 (town) or thereabouts if that coincides with you?

I suspect that I was spotted by Gembo this moring as I passed by Harrison Park, but between wiping the foggy condensation off my glasses and not cycling into other path users I'm afraid I only heard a passing greeting.

@jdanielp - if it helps, I can tell you that @gembo was clad in elegant pink (not all over, obviously) when I met him at the end of the Slateford Aqueduct this morning. He was also (like me) courageously still in baggy shorts despite the chill in the air.

We exchanged pleasantries, and he observed that it was the weather for fog lights.

I did have lights on, but found that visibility improved considerably after I'd wiped my glasses free of condensation.

@Greenroofer I did indeed catch a flash of pink out of the corner of my eye so that probably counts as a spot.
