A man cycling along in the wind this morning with a huge sail wooden case in one hand. Hope he did not have far to go.

High 5 from Hankchief and two mini Hankcheifs this morning. That will be a high 15. Much easier at a low closing speed. Especially as the 3 hands are at different heighs.

not sure where to post this anecdote:

was cycling along Gilmore Place about 8.30 last night. saw several guys on the pavement - opposite side of the road from me, heading same direction, so couldn't see them well, but they seemed to be carrying bags with a fair bit of stuff in them, bedding and whatnot. was a bit surprised - not usual pedestrians along there. as I went along they called out - helpfully i think - to tell me that I had a flat tyre, and then again when they thought i'd not heard. I think they heard my spikes and thought it was the tire/rims scraping? then went past Viewforth church and saw van outside, so I think the Bethany night shelter must have been there last night. Wonder if these guys and been trained in one of the programmes helping ex-offenders or others get skills as bike mechanics? or maybe it was just random. felt bad I'd not shouted 'thanks' or something, but as a female cyclist, when blokes shout at me on my bike, my instinct is to press on....

This is a fairly common hilarious gag. Right up there with "hey, your wheels are going round". I have had it a few times. Your instincts are correct I would say.

"but as a female cyclist, when blokes shout at me on my bike, my instinct is to press on...."

    Not gender specific.

Maybe not, but women have extra reasons to have learned to ignore on-street-shouters/commenters (I know I do...)

The hilarious gag is not only directed at female cyclists, as a ned (walking with his gf) called out last night that I had a flat tyre.

Arellcat proceeding up Comiston Road on that bike that looks as if it's in the early stages of a lycanthropic transformation into a recumbent.

I though I was being spotted today. A lady on a Brompton was looking at my bike at the Haymarket lights. At the Torphichen Street lights she continued to look down at my back wheel.

She smiled and said "I like your shoes, mine are worn out", so I told her where I got them.

If it was anyone on here: hello!

    Ah that bus.

Was heading for PO, but didn't think it would be 'polite' (or safe) to jump in front of bus to get round parked van.

    Busy commute home this evening...

First I came across @chrisfl making good progress along the towpath with two lively passengers.

Then @david.nutter came flying through the roadworks on Myreside Road

...and finally I followed a bike with those in-wheel lights (red behind and white in front) up Craighouse Hill. Had this been my bike I might have had an additional rear light, but it was quite visible nevertheless.

Steveo pointed out my pannier was loose this morning. Attaching it properly led to him getting clean away.

Shocking cycle through balgreen, silver mondeo belching black exhaust and being tooted at from Asda chesser to balgreen shops where he may well have dropped a child for school.

Murrayfield bad, though the boy who is the thorn in his side seems to be having his back green cemented against the WoL. Shocking down through Edinburgh's longest unbroken Georgian cresecent in the world of Edinburgh and bath. Previous west end roadworks negotiable on bike. Relatively unscathed from there up to morngside later but bad again at forest road. Who does have right of way a bike on green light going straight or a big bus?

Way home less fraught, what a day. Also fitted for a brace on bottom teeth at my age and at end of day quite vicious teeth descale. Two dentists in one day.

All happening. Think I will go to bed

Shockingly pink rider heading south on Pleasance.

**** Then I realised it was Gembo brightening up the city ****

I was on a Cycle Service single speed Dahon 'courtesy bike'. This has a nice pedal backward coaster brake which I'm starting to enjoy. Gears, big wheels, aerodynamics, mudguards - they're all over-rated you know.

    Mudguards aren't.

    3 gears is good.

That would be Weezee on the EdFoC courtesy UA. Her own one is getting a new sensor.

@laodback, ah the coaster brake, that was why you were taking it easy? I was in hurry but we had both stopped at the lights which was nice. Later after leaving liberton I cycled the majestic braid hills road to wester hailes, stopping only for a nosy and donation at Waverley care trust. So I was pretty in pink all over southern Edinburgh yesterday. Well in a pink jersey anyway. The coral one Rapha do now is one click away from the one I have so glad I did not succumb to the massive reduction. As still dear and no free gilet anymore.

Big John from the canal tow path in wester hailes library yesterday afternoon. Handshake was very firm and went on for some time. His free bus pass is only weeks away.

Thursday at 9-ish: EdFoC's Urban Arrow being piloted down Lothian Road towards the West End. I would guess from posts above that it was Mr. Weezee, but was unable to confirm since the gent in question was more shades'n'liddy than I've seen Mr. Weezee before.

Whoever it was, it was interesting to see how such a beast can still pull off some pretty nifty filtering.
