I was at the birthday party of the unicyclist who likes to overtake people on arthurs seat. Lovely fellow, his house has a couple of bike nuts :)

Pashley-style trike (2 wheels at the front, tiller steering) heading down Bruntsfield place about mid day. Had a tent-like fairing over the front, presume it was carrying the chidlers. Chap on a blue/white Cinelli track bike scalped it which I thought was most unsporting.

    Spotted....

....most of you lot at the cafe PY today. Lovely to be introduced to (some of) you. I'll say hello to those I wasn't introduced to if we meet again. Appologies for my ignorance.

And thanks for the ISIHAC book - I think it won't be in my possession too long and will be back to PY for swapsies soon. With a few greasy thumbprints on it...

Not guy who does juice stall at top of MMW then? His is green Pashley.

If there are two trikes in use in central Edinburgh then we're becoming Amsterdamarized.

Two-wheeled recumbent heading (appropriately) south down South Lauder Road about 7.20pm this evening.

Rider was whistling happily to himself, possibly in the mistaken belief that he was safe from being 'spotted' on a side street after dark.

Unfortunately for him, BicycleLegal was heading in the other direction en route to Homebase* at the time...

*Other purveyors of small electric heaters are of course available. This particular purveyor was rather optimistically gearing up to sell Jamie Oliver** themed barbeques.

**Other purveyors of laddish celebrity cooking are of course available.

I claim a spot by proxy. I haven't seen Dave for ages but my husband has (I am pretty sure it must be Dave he is seeing). Ha, there is no escape! He has also been seeing an older guy on a recumbent trike with the two wheels at the front.

I may have a Dave spot too. Then again I might not. Maybe at the start of February-ish, was chatting to someone on the road by the cabbage fields which runs kind of behind the main coast road going back into Edinburgh. Orange bike (colour not brand). He was talking about doing the P-B-P, and the audaxes/kms he needed to qualify for it, and having now read the 'Long Ride Contingent' thread, wonder if this was Dave.

"Coming down Mayfield Rd, a female cyclist with cycle decorated with (plastic?) flowers, wrapped around down tube and around basket. "

I ride a bike with flowers on the basket, but not the frame itself. That wasn't me in Mayfield though. So there are at least two of us!

@BicycleLegal - wow. I had to look up where South Lauder Road is but that was definitely me.

Having suffered a lighting failure trying to crab home by the most remote side streets available!

Min, I keep seeing you whenever I'm driving or on the bus (strangely). I haven't been riding through town as much because of the depressing amount of roadworks, although now Jock's Lodge has become a northbound nightmare I might fall back on the direct route...

@Jackson Priest - not I. My bike is white...

Dave - If you had not been whistling then you could have snuck by below radar as you said your lights had failed?

Lauder is good though as very wide and quiet. So wide I'm surprised they haven't painted a bike lane in!

"So wide I'm surprised they haven't painted a bike lane in!"

    No you're not...

It was one of many things that was proposed as part of the 'safe routes to school' project at Sciennes over ten years ago.

A lot of things were implemented and Sciennes still has an unusually high (for Edinburgh) number of children cycling to school.

History (I'm surprised this is still online!) -

@chdot "...Sciennes still has an unusually high (for Edinburgh) number of children cycling to school."

Indeed there are - plus loads of younger ones (like mine) who use scooters as well - its actually quite heartening to see so many of them using non-motorised methods of getting to school.

Agree on the safe routes stuff - hence I am for the proposed 20 limit on non-main roads in the area.

I know this machine is familiar to some people, but the photo shows it with a trailer -

OK not really, but an impressive amount of messages to stow!

    who use scooters as well

Notice quite a few of these scooting down to Gylemuir most mornings. Not so many bikes though, although did regularly used to see one wee lad last year during warmer months. More power to them!

Sand*-coloured Brompton with darker fork and rear triangle (sort of inverse of Arrelcat's) turning left off of Gardner's Crescent down Morrison Street. Was stuck at lights so didn't see where it went from there.

    * beige if you're not anth

Chap with girl in childseat, heading through Holy Corner, turned on Forbes Rd (Forbes nursery run?). Noteworthy for wearing 'trad' white cycling cap.

A helios tandem that wasn't SRD with a second child in tow on a BMX, Argyle Place.

A gembo heading west along Broomhouse. Obviously going to Tesco with a full compliment of 2 panniers to load up on potatoes for potato day

Kaputnik, I was following the very same tandem and BMX out of Argyle Place, but they turned off to Hatton Place while I went straight on. I was actually following them purely to see if it was definitely a Helios!

Was out and about on the cycle paths this aftie. Saw a gaggle of cyclists standing around on the path just at the north end of the red bridge at Crewe Toll, maybe 5 or 6 folk, all huddled round someone who seemed to be giving them some kind of instruction? Maybe a cycling proficiency sort of thing for adults?

Later on, about 4-ish I was going northbound from Craiglieth on the Silverknowes-bound path and passed a white ...well...pedal-powered low rider style bike, complete with Harley-D. type forks. I'm probably going to show my ignorance here but I've no idea what the bike was, if indeed it was a 'production' model at all. Anyone seen this around and know the story..?

@kaputnik: I've seen Electra Townies before..it wasn't one of those. I followed your link...the Ghostrider Cruiser looks about the only one to get close, but I'm sure what I saw was lower, and even more ...erm, unusual.

Kaputnik, that is very observant - I did have a pannier full of red roosters for shepherd's pie (vegan variety) in honour of St Patrick. Always good to have stomach well lined before the Col du Climpy ascent as part of Balerno Bike Day
