  1. I'm terrible with remembering names to faces. I suspect, given the locations of all of these spotteds, which coincide with my new commute routes, that I've spotted a number of people without actually spotting them, if you see what I mean.

There was a guy trackstanding facing downhill on Leith Walk last night, at the lights nearest Elm Row. I stood back in awe.

He also had two large "headlamps" mounted just above the front wheel. Quite a distinctive look anyway, is it one of you?

Was walking along Gilmore Place with microSRd and saw what looked like an uber hipster bike come out of Upper Gilmore place - all trendy and orange shoes. Was checking out the young guy riding it and it turned out to be wilmington's cow. (Who I more commonly see looking bourgeois at the farmer's market).

Really? I spotted same dude emerging from telfer subway tonight avec un Bon chapeau

  5. I'll take 'young'. And certainly can't miss the shoes.

T'was slightly odd seeing two CCErs so close together (and SRD certainly seemed a touch surprised to realise it was me.

A trio of very new looking Bike & Go hire bikes at Dundee station. All fancy with chain guards, front porteur rack, and so on. I wonder if anyone will actually hire them...

I was spotted by IWRATS on my previously mentioned visit to Clip & Climb at the Climbing centre, using my real name - is that allowed?

I would like to say that I was at the top of a 30ft wall, but sadly I was being outdone by the fearless mini chiefs and my wobbly legs were not conducive to matching them.

I blame the century ride I did this morning to Tak Ma Doon & Doune rather than being scared of heights...

Coming back this morning through Clackmannanshire, I spotted a whole field of solar panels being built. Didn't realise that they could make economic sense this far North - I have seen them in Cornwall which makes a bit more sense.

Yes I would say that is a spot, slightly delayed and using civilian nomenclature but nevertheless a spot.

There is a field of solar panels south of the WoL above Currie. Aboyne in Aberdeenshire is often sunniest place in Scotland and some days UK, so never having thought this through the light will be there a fair bit. Matt Damon survives on Mars for quite a few years, even growing potatoes, using only solar power. Mars is quite far north of the sun a fair bit of the time. (I only cite this book/movie. As apparently the science is feasible)

So my spot of HankChief 'making light work of a stiff climb near the canal at Newbridge' is obsolete?

What is the etiquette for spots in a non-cycle environment? Should I have bawled 'HankChief!' as I secretly yearned to have a go at the kids' climbs?

(Incidentaly great place to overhear nonsense chat. 'It wasn't volume technical, but it was powerful' quoth one Rab-clad mountain hipster to his amigo.)

obsolete yes because it has already been reverse spot reported by Hankchief

Yes that is the etiqutette, bawl Hankchief or appropriate handle though I totally reversed that the other night in a cycling environment by using the real name of Wilmington's Cow so as I have confessed to you, you can decide how many hail marys I must now say

I failed to high five gembo this morning on the towpath, mostly due to anticipating the impact and starting to move my hand back and out of the way slightly too soon.

I then caught up with Big John for the first time since his birthday. He has received his bus pass (he had been worried that he might not due to not having his original birth certificate to show them) and may allow himself to be talked into taking a ride on the tram now it is free.

@gembo good to hear! I half considered initiating a high-five one day last week, but there was a woman cycling fairly close behind you and I didn't want to confuse her, although I might have got two for one!

Given that I hadn't seen him in a few weeks I was mildly concerned that Big John had given up on his morning walk for the convenience of the bus, but it sounds like he had merely been having a bit of a holiday.

Infinite points for the serial high-five if you can manage it.

Points for high-fiving pedestrians hailing taxis, buses or friends across the street, also.

Came across someone cycling on a (Haymarket) Bike & Go on Riversdale Road this morning. First time I'd seen one in the wild, so slowed down to chat for a bit. The guy's in town for business occasionally and either brings his own bike on the train or hires one of these for the day.

I enquired as to the riding experience... the word 'tank' was used. Regardless of all that, he seemed delighted to be able to cycle from the train station.

"he seemed delighted to be able to cycle from the train station"

Probably already tried similar in another city.

Edinburgh will have a scheme with multiple docking stations (sometime).

And why were neither of you using the convoluted, zigzagged, narrow & tram track risking NCR1?

Would better signage have helped you know it was there ;-)

  20. Actually I was just soaking up the wonderful sense of commute and bemoaning anyone who would try to destroy it....

A successful high five with gembo this morning. Are there points to be scored for high fiving indicating cyclists?

This afternoon spotted Alison Johnstone MSP about to cross Gorgie Road on the toucan for the WoL path to Slateford, and looking the epitome of cyclechic.

On Cramond Brig this morning Penelope Keith plus film crew. They kept us waiting for a take so she had the bridge to herself, but both she and the crew were very charming.
