Laidback on a Circe tandem adapted into a 'pickup' bike. Looked great.

Sadly the Queen's timings & mine didn't quite coincide but a good morning nevertheless with a chat with Gembo & Ali and seeing the launch of Scottish Canal's shiny new weed cutting vessel at Harrison Park. Disappointingly there was no champagne being broken across it's bow but it did float.

Saw the orange shoes of Wilmington's Cow going through Corstorphine today. I was heading the opposite way in anonymising commuter hi viz.

  5. Gah! Didn't get the reciprocal spot!

I was back on the tank today (mudguards FTW), otherwise there'd have been nothing other than an orange blur, clearly... ;)

That's the bike on Fleshmarket Close right? It's been there for months, slowly being disassembled. Originally locked to the rail in the passageway and complete, if unrideable. What someone thought they could gain by cutting the tube is beyond me.

It would make a pretty cool addition to the front of a bike shop if anyone were to retrieve it in it's current state.

    One of these;

casually parked outside the Dovecot on Infirmary Street. The gear cable outers were rotten, which was a shame for such a nice bike.

@Klaxon - you can make a workshop stool with the rear triangle and seat tube.

I sawed my friend's car-kissed racer in half yesterday for this purpose - surprisingly comfy!

Spotted the Moonwalk signs being taken down on Sunday by two foldable Dahon riders sporting trailers. The first one carrying steps and clippers and the second carrying the removed signs.

It makes sense as they can access places the walkers can but vehicles can't.

We also saw the Moonwalk trailer team from the front room. Later on we saw some volunteers riding lanterne rouge, encouraging the stragglers along in the rain.

@wingpig, that handlebars and front wheel of the Raleigh twenty has moved up to be with other whole bikes in alley just off Royal mile that comes out across from the war hammer shop where I was headed to buy some paint, celestra grey being the shade.

Haven't been this way for a while. When was this legalised?

    (May have been mentioned before.)

@chdot - almost since they finished the tram works. It was updated in OpenStreetMap on 18 October 2013.

Shame about the no-right turn at the top.

"Shame about the no-right turn at the top."

Yes, makes no sense - except that anyone going that way has to 'watch for trams'.

No doubt they are more worried about taxis than bikes!

There are very, very few unsignalled turns across the tram lines. I think the lanes around St Andrew Sq are the only ones. Not sure if driven by national design standard or local risk assessment but it's very deliberate.

ninja edit: There's one on the access to the private dwellings off the A8 as well.

Someone keeping the bike paths useable by chopping up the substantial bit of fallen tree on the Roseburn path this morning.
Notable because they were presumably not a council employee, but instead someone that decided to bring their loppers along for the commute.
    Good job.

Twentyish adult cyclists in a group heading east along the Innocent through Bingham. Less fluorescent than a group that size would normally be, so perhaps a group of tourists?

Hackney carriages decked out in balloons with the pilots dressed variously as clowns and pirates.

It must be the annual don't act like an entitled, reckless, bully-boy day.

    Posted 8 years ago #
  21. That's harsh kaputnik - the annual charity day is a fantastic day for the kids involved, and raises a lot of money and the profile.

Having something so worthwhile taking place and still finding something intensely negative to say about it isn't really fair.

@WC I wasn't having a go at them for being so publicly spirited for 1 day of the year. It's the other 364.25 that give me big concerns (and almost every day).

I did have a good think about what words to use and "entitled, reckless, bully-boy" was arrived after quite a bit of watering it down.

    Posted 8 years ago #
  24. Sorry kaputnik, but I do think it's a little EEN commenter to see a good-news story and want to post something about the negative side of those taking part.

Yes, indeed, other days of the year they can be muppets (though again, straying into the 'all taxi drivers are homicidal maniacs' thinking, but I guess tarring with the same brush is okay for certain motorists even if it's not for all cyclists), but seriously, your first thought of what to post when seeing a charity event for kids, with happy smiling faces, and fun on the streets was, "Yeah, but I hate them the rest of the time"?

Sorry, that kind of thing just annoys me (it might be obvious).

I was spotted by hankchief on Maybury Road. He was disguised as a regular commuter rather than sporting the long bike while I had the tagalong so not surprising that he did the spotting.

    @kaputnik,

I was informed by someone who saw it and you'll not be surprised to hear that one of the balloon be-decked taxis collided with and knocked off one of the police motorbike outriders, on/near East End of Princes Street.

Seems like even the Plods aren't safe with all that high viz and blue flashing light (which coincedently were on, as they were stopping traffic to allow the parade to pass).

SRD, I heard your cheery hail as I passed Yeaman Place, but on looking round and seeing no-one I thought I'd imagined it or misheard someone else's call.
