Instog Raphy this morning on George Street. He slowed to wait for me so I could explain away why I looked quite so upright and sedate (and out of breath) on the big black bike.

I think I just spotted IWRATS on MMW but didn't realise quickly enough to react. I was mostly wondering how anyone could be surviving in an Altura Night Vision jacket given that I was sweating away in my super light summer waterproof jacket and then my brain kicked into recognition mode too late.

wingpig, filtering between me (stopped) and a First bus (also stopped) outside Haymarket this evening.

That means you went past me without declaring yourself, which means you intend to continue stalking me undetected along West Maitland Street in the mornings.

Spotted pleasingly varied selection of bikes when I nipped up to town this afternoon. Lovely sit up and beg with rear basket full of groceries, Brompton, few full racers being used to commute and most of all a great amount of budget all purpose bikes. Bikes waiting at every red.
This was all in spite of the well forecast wind and (beginning) of the rain. Just people going about doing things.
Maybe this is a very mundane spot but I'm not often about at normal commuting hours so it was impressive for me to see

@wingpig: no, we were both heading west...no opportunity to identify myself as you were past before I realised it was you.

"Maybe this is a very mundane spot but I'm not often about at normal commuting hours so it was impressive for me to see"
Even at non-core commuting hours I've been surprised at number of cyclists about. Think it's noticeably students - QBiC and Marchmont generally.

@jdanielp
I was overdressed, no doubt about it. Tuesday fooled me, big time. I think that's the first time I've been 'spotted'?
Also, on that same MMW, LaidBack, I think, shooting north about 5cm off the deck. Just a glimpse as I was concentrating on the quidditch coaching session unfolding in the gloom to my left.

2 different black Urban Arrows yesterday. Seems to be the cargobike of choice for Edinburgh!
First one heading along George St., turning down Castle St. in the morning. Think the first cargobike I've ever noted on George St.
Second one later on in the day in Corstorphine. Both had chiddlers onboard.
Encouraging signs.

We may have another coming soon. Expect complaints from media.

@kaputnik the EdFoC Urban Arrows have been to George St. a fair number of times over the last couple of years... ;-)

I saw two Urban Arrows yesterday. One parked outside Preston Street primary school, obviously on the school run, and the other outside the Cycle Service. The fact that I was riding a third one and know who the owners of the other two were (with out even needing to see them) is neither here nor there ;-)

Expect complaints from media.
Especially if they're black Urban Arrows. Black is a very dangerous colour for a bike. I know this because I was told as much by some old bloke in the Meadows once.
I spotted and then had a nice wee chat with AlanR this afternoon, on the canal path at Harrison Park.

Pleasant ride home and chat about many discussions on these pages with DaveC

Klaxon, I think, getting back into the road bike and clipless pedals on Edina Street this afternoon?
Posted 8 years ago # -
Ah so that's the recipe for spots. Get on a roadie! Yes that was me :)
Why are they called clipless anyway. They sure seem to clip in to me
Posted 8 years ago # -
Clips are the straps that go over your foot to attach you to the pedal.
Clipless, while clipping in underneath, are missing the straps, and are chronologically later than the straps/clips and so were, both logically and illogically, named 'clipless'.

Well-used Circe Helios with kiddie cranks and a yellow cover on the stoker's saddle parked outside MMW Sainsburys this morning. I admired it briefly but enviously. It wasn't the distinctive HankChief-mobile.
Here at Greenroofer Towers we are in the process of completing the purchase of a nearby lock-up garage which will give us the opportunity to store Helioses (Helioi?), Urban Arrows and/or recumbent tandems. It's just a shame that the eye-watering expense of the garage means that we won't be able to afford any fancy bikes to keep in it...

'well-used' is putting it politely!!!!
Posted 8 years ago # -
@SRD maybe I should have said 'much-loved'. Sorry. :-)

Pilot of said Helios had been chatting (earlier) with @Roibeard.

Crowriver and daughter (I presume) cycling through the park yesterday around 2:15ish... which reminds me - why is Queen's Drive up to Dunsapie open to cars? Not a lot of fun with a heavy trailer and revving impatience. I'd always thought the path was pedestrian only up there, but I saw lots of folk cycling it.

JacksonPriest and Dave cycling along the NEPN. I got chatting to a Glasgow cyclist who drives to Dalmeny, and cycles in to Princes St. I was able to show him the NEPN to St Andrew Sq, which he enjoyed much more than Shandwick St and the tramline.

Local councillor Chas Booth (I think!) +1 using Restalrig Path slalom.
Possible Claire/Crabbitcopy at Pinkhill. But I could be wrong.

Snazzy 3 wheel recomb' on Ferry Rd about 1845.
You do not have enough lights!

Lady cycling up Lasswade Road at 19h00 without lights got flashed by me in my autoIWRATSmobile. Suicyling.

Blethered with a chap this morning, cycling from Haymarket yards to Roseburn Street after he enquired about my solo gear.
If you are from these parts, "HELLO!"
Posted 8 years ago # -
Pavement cyclist outside Waverly Market!!! The wee tyke was scooting along on the pavement as bold as brass with a huge smile on his face.
His mother was in toe walking behind him. :O)

Proxy spot - friend was walking the canal path near Ratho last night and was passed by a Sinclair C5.
