    Dude turning into Chambers Street two abreast with his pal, wearing a magnificent knitted shako;

    as I drew alongside I heard they were talking French, so I congratulated him on his headgear in that tongue. I think he was freaked pretty much all the way out, but in a good way.

    Parked on George IV Bridge, a Raleigh Motus. E-bikes now seem to have some half-decent running gear. As you'd expect for £2,000.

    "As you'd expect for £2,000"

    This is not 'or buy this', but shows there's a market for a wide range of bikes that some people would just think 'expensive'.

    @chdot

    And there are people who'll pay £361 just for a headset.

    "Even more, who would believe we'd have the riding style that demands this type of equipment?"

    Who indeed?

    I was looking through someone's "'sale' components" section recently and there were cassettes for over £300. I'd need it to last about five years for that price.

    Winding my way through the chaotic traffic on Myreside Road this morning, in full utility mode towing a trailer* containing wellington boots, tools and some raspberry plans for the allotment, I passed @MrSRD going the other way, also in utility mode piloting a Helios with an empty stoker seat. We've recently taken to crossing paths elsewhere on a Saturday morning...

    *An early birthday present from me to me, with which I am very pleased. It has an advantage over the EBC one in that it has rigid sides so oddly-shaped things don't foul the wheels.

    Almost forgot - @Roibeard shepherding a Roibeardlet down Gilmerton Road last night in fine primary style.

    Later when cycling through Shandwick Place I was followed by the Ghost of Christmas Past, complete with gangling chain... Turned out to be a nice lady in a beige camel type coat on an electric bicycle, who was easily able to keep up with my lurches between red lights.

    When I pointed out that the gangling chains made her sound like Bob Marley, she smiled, perhaps knowing I meant Jacob Marley... ;oS

    Was at the Castle Terrace consultation at about seven last night, chatting with the council lead together with a woman that I'd not met before and a man that I vaguely recognised. Suspect these were Rosie and Unhurt, nice to (sort of) meet you!

    @UtrechtCyclist - which did you think was which? Both are of the same gender...

    Step away from the speculation. Keep CCE gender free.

    Eek! Let me rephrase, was at the meadows to castle terrace consultation last night and I met two people who seemed very well informed about cycling issues in the city and I speculated that they might well be the kind of people who fritter away half of their day on the citycyclingedinburgh forum. Nice to meet them whoever they were!

    A friendly wave from @stickperson on Corstorphine Road this morning.

    I was just setting off from photographing the cracking sunrise peering over the roof tops

    Lots of people, including photographers with ladders, looking out for Leonardo DiCaprio this morning opposite Home in the West end. I had no time for such frivolity but used my kingfisher spotting skills to scan the far pavement anyway... No sign.

    Is that why there were loads of unusual queues in unusual places this morning around the west end?

    A reverse spot....

    Unable to spot the bike racks next to RSA on The Mound this morning.

    They seem to have been "disappeared" in favour of Embra's Xmas.

    #wonder where the nearest parking is now.

    #wonder where the nearest parking is now.

    Are the ones round the front/back of the RSA both gone? An optimist might wonder if they're just being upgraded.

    Nearest could be Rose St. More should be appearing on Princes St. in the near future.

    The ones at front are gone (LHS of building as you look at from Princes Street). There used to be about 4-5 racks there?

    Looks like there is Christmas market stall over space where racks were.

    No idea about back of building. Sorry!

    At Cameron Toll bike racks a brand new Apollo Excelle with the fork installed back to front.

    Was leaving a note when the young owner turned up. Explained the situation and asked if her feet fouled the front wheel. 'Yes, they do....I thought it was a bit odd. Do you think Halfords will fix it for free?'

    I suggested she tear them a new one first thing tomorrow. What an utter shower.

    Another friendly wave from @Stickman this morn. Not sure if he heard my recent fitted studs or saw my new dynamo light...
