@gembo - well that was me, nice to have met you. I can definitely recommend your coffee to everybody.
It is not easy to admit to people that you've never met that: a) you read an online cycle forum and b) go by the name ExcitableBoy!

I believe I said that it was a toss-up for my favourite western between Once Upon a Time in the West & The Good,The Bad and the Ugly - with A Bullet for the General close behind. Your knowledge of films was very impressive but I'll stick with Leone and Peckinpah...

Spotted Kaputnik heading west on canal path by Harrison Gardens at around 17.50.

Just coming back from OP show with load on Helios with Amy on trike following. A third LB bike split off before Hermiston.

@ExcitableBoy: Love TGTB&TU, but IMHO the best is probably High Plains Drifter...?

mmm...yes. in last few weeks have met someone who knows Spytfyre and discovered that a friend knows Recombodna's brother. Conversations went along the lines of 'is his surname x?' me: 'I don't know, I just know him through cycling' Cue strange looks, without even mentioning the 'on-line' bit.

Kaputnik - you should've stopped in for your loaf !

@SRD - I was carrying mother's day loafs over to my sisters. So hot out the oven (I was running late after spending too much bread-baking time admiring chdot's collection of steel frames) that I had to rig up a basket on the rack to air-cool them in a tea towel as I pootled across town (terrified I'd hit a bump and spill bread everywhere, getting savaged by a hoard of ducks and gulls sick of stale Mother's Pride and after the good home-made stuff). But yes, must do loaf/pump swap soon.

Ah - Excitable Boy - if I had known we could have discussed the the single speed and the state of your knees (to come). It's Me Knees - we also discussed Django and Unforgiven, not to mention Shane, Red River, Rio Bravo and 3 or 4 movies where John Wayne is not a cowboy

Gembo, I could have talked about bikes for longer, but I got the impression that others would not have been so keen. Are you suggesting that my knees are at risk? My right knee is a little dodgy at times, I'd sooner it didn't get worse.
Get the new bike on Wednesday, so keep your eyes on Gumtree come the weekend ;)

For second time in last 2 or 3 days spotted a girl riding a fire-engine red "F. Moser" step-through framed 70s-style drop-bar bike. It's a nice looking bike didn't realise that Moser had sold the rights to his name for shopping bikes.

Excitable Boy - your knees will be fine. For me witht he incline to Balerno and the two panniers of shopping it would be different. On the single speed you have the gear when you are sitting down pedalling and the gear when you are standing up pedalling. [obvioulsy unlike the people on this forum who know what they are talking about I'd have to say the ratio was A Certain Ratio from 1979 on Marc Riley Radio 6 Music tonight) However, Unlike derailler , where you can keep dropping down the gears to take the strain, on the single speed if you have to climb it is your bits that take the strain. However, if you stay mostly flat they are great. Also a stripling young laddie like yourself will have no problems.

Immaculately be-tweed-and-cordurouyed gentleman on an ancient rod-braked bicycle rattling his way from Melville Drive onto Argyle Place about 1745 today. Looked and sounded a bit like it was last oiled c. 1745.

Stepdoh - alas my career as barrista was short lived. There was a fancy dress house warming thing at teh weekend and you had to come as a costume that was the same as your initials. Excitable boy was American Werewolf (apologies if this is too much info) and I was Macchiato Guy. I made little effort at costume but did haul my espresso machine in my panniers to the pad at Morningside. The upstiars neighbour also having house warming. In classic middle class edinburgh manner, many people at our party thought they knew the other guy - he was familiar, where had they met him before. Turns out he is cashier on the tills at Waitrose in Morningside. He did also like my espresso (Although I was machiatto guy I just made espressos as I can't be bothered with the hot milk skoosher). Did take bike home in taxi and lose sealskinz glove. Did not mention Outlaw Josey Wales or Little Big Man another two brilliant movies.

I wasn't invited to this party. I obviously am not cool enough for Morningside parties. Must try harder.

Quite handy at this kind of party, as I can always just come Staggeringly Drunk.

Espresso panniers sound like a great idea. Now if you could get 2kW at 240v out of a dynamo... Downhill with a tailwind maybe?

I think a moka-express and a small stove might be more practical?

There's always the bicycle-pump-inspired and highly-portable Handpresso, though it still requires an external water-heating device.

Someone once gave me a kettle that plugged into a car cigaratte lighter. It claimed to take 18 mins to boil enough water for a cup of tea.

I gave it away without opening it.

cruising between argle place and the links I spotted a guy sitting on a bench staring closely at his orange bike. 'Are you ok?' I ask? he looks up 'oh, yeah I just bought it!'

    It was very pretty!

    Spotted: Wingpig
Location: Corridor Outside Bike Changing Room
    Time: Yesterday afternoon
    Didn't say hello though :P
I see what you mean, that changing room is stupidly small for this size of building. I am up here on the 6th floor for a while. Nice view of the toon.
Give me a shout, we could do lunch ;P

It's a sign: send it to the EEN as a portent for the future.
Whilst you're there, could you measure the difference in elevation between the foot and top of Carton Hill's cobbleyness? I keep popping past but my GPS takes too long to connect.

Not sure my gps would be any more accurate than this -
