American (I think) couple approaching the Burnshot bridge heavily laden with touring stuff. So far just a little out of the ordinary....

..they had headphones and microphones on so they could speak to each other whilst cycling along.

That's a new one on me, but makes perfect sense - motorcyclist have them, so why not.

@HC those would be very useful for children when riding with them on the road on their own bikes. Would stop all the shouting that seems to me to be an inevitable part of teaching a little one how to negotiate traffic.

Think I need to get this for the wife and I. She suffers from wind noise more than me for some reason and can't hear me when we're travelling at any sort of speed.

I have a hilarious video from honeymoon from my handlebar cam which we watch from time to time where I'm shouting at her to "watch out for the poles" which seemed to be coming loose from her tent roll in the handlebar bag. But effectively sounds like this

    "Quickly check those poles!"
    "WHAT"
    "Check those POLES"
    "WHAAAAT"
    "POLES!"
    "WHAAAAT?!?!! I CAN"T HEAR YOU"
I cycle up and point at the poles.
    "OH THEY'RE FINE"

@ chdot where were all those bikes?
Reminds me of my spot on Tuesday evening - a big group of children (with some adults) pushing bikes along the pavement of Lanark Road. Not sure where they were off to/had come from.

(I think they all had helmets, but there was a pleasing lack of hi-vis, given what groups of children on foot can look like!)

Spotted - snapped chain lying in the gutter at the top of Easter Road. Somebody must have had a frustrating commute in.

Stopped beside algo at the lights on Dewar Place. We agreed that it was a fantastic morning to be cycling.

@Stickman - nice to see you - alas I had to get to work but I felt like just riding around doing errands all morning. And indeed - what a magnificent bike you have to match the weather...

This lovely sunshine reveals what has been hidden. Spotted, between the sixth and seventh piers of the Slateford Aqueduct heading west an alloy-framed twenty six inch wheeled mountain bike glimmering in the depths.

Did someone on here not lose theirs? I may fish it out for the fun of it.

@IWRATS - there's another smaller bike further west by Wester Hailes similarly glimmering

Excellent. I must have missed it amongst the shopping trolleys, litter bins and swing seats. Could really do with dredging.

@Greenroofer - Indeed, that spot earlier in the week was the Fleming Helios. They went for a swim at the WHEC.

2 cyclists riding with well laden trailers (ortleib panniers ad a lot of bottles of water on B800 into Kirkliston.

No helmets, "normal clothes" confident primary, patient Irn bru truck driver following for ~1/2 mile through Kirkliston not trying to get by (and it didn't cost him any time).

As @Greenroofer remarked when I told him, everything was as it should be...

    Forgot to mention this earlier...

THERE IS ANOTHER...On my way to work along the canal after not-PY and its herd of Elephant Bikes, I passed another Elephant Bike out beyond the bypass and heading into town. Olive green, with a wicker basket and piloted by a chap with a splendid red beard.

I had encountered Katerina the canal-pusher-inner on the aqueduct, so seeing the nice bike rather lightened my mood.

I saw an Elephant bike on the Black Isle recently.

On the way home this evening I failed to exchange a high-five with @gembo, and about two minutes later I passed the red-bearded Elephant Bike rider I saw this morning. I again said 'nice bike' and he grinned.

    I expect @gembo overtook him.

@ Greenroofer, we exchanged a hi 5 just without touching. Nice cap.

I may well have passed the elephant bike but failed to notice. The path was rammed nearer town but thinned out nicely over the aqueduct.

I tell you something about Edinburgh, it is a lot better than London.

    the red-bearded Elephant Bike rider

I think that must be the chap I saw at PoP. I learned from Twitter that he's called Rurigdh.

@Arellcat - I'm a bit disappointed to find out that red-bearded Elephant Bike man and dog-carrying Elephant Bike man are the same person. I'd kind of hoped there were two bikes to add to the count...

Was in Manchester for work (interesting time to do so for sure), and since I was there last they've laid on proper cycle lanes along Oxford Road, segregation, one way each side of the road, floating bus stops, the lot. Not without issues I'm sure, but just for reference Oxford Road is the bus corridor in the city (both unis, hospitasl, Curry Mile…) and still they did it. Does make you wish for a bit more conviction from our elected representatives…

A chap with a fully laden touring setup, cycling along the pavement on Corstorphine Road/Roseburn Terrace. He looked like he might have been lost. At the same time a group of four on bikes crossed and went to the WoL path, probably out on a leisurely Bank Holiday ride.

Marin Fairfax with Kevlar drive belt heading up Gilmerton Road. Great commuter. Hydraulic discs, hub gear...just needs a suspension fork, full guards and dynamo lights to be Edinburgh ready. Guy had inexplicably added front panniers. Looked like he was cycling an old school cylinder lawnmower.

The orphaned Revolution MTB at Cameron Toll bike racks has started to unscrew itself. Front pannier racks gone (deathtraps anyway) and QR skewer removed. Hang on, front pannier racks....could it be?

@iwrats, used to see guy on morning commute on towpath with front panniers very low, always thought he was hoovering. Someone, maybe Dave, has trimmed the overgrowth at west end of aqueduct, helps no end. Lilac lidded lady stopped to let me through near Harrison PK this morn.
