@gembo
Yes, Hoover Guy I know him. This was mad uncle of Hoover Guy. Straps dangling in spokes.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

I was behind a guy towing a trailer down Morriwon street this evening. The wheels of the trailer were disconcertingly wobbly and he was meandering; I was relieved to pass him.
Spotted Ed going to his new office as I approached my office in Town. Ed is not his username, but I can't be fussed to search it out....
Hailed by a pensive @shuggiet who was chillin' in the shade at Morningside Central. I was just admiring a build - some guy had put a Rock Shox Paragon fork on a Marin San Rafael, basically turning it into a pretty version of the Scaffolding Bike.
Exchanged cheery waves with @daisydaisy at the Myreside/Colinton Road junction this evening. She was on quite a sporty-looking bicycle built for one. I was on the Elephant Bike* and in the process of psyching myself up for the ascent of Craighouse Hill.
On the way up the hill a chap on a bike caught up with me. I resisted the temptation to say "My bike weighs 23kg and has 3 gears, how about yours?"
*Did I ever mention that I had an Elephant Bike? It proved its worth this morning: panniers loaded with work clothes, packed lunch and a very large pile of Spokes Bulletins from @DdF to give to @paddyirish at work; front tray full of a large bag of gifts for my departing boss (including a 16yo Lagavulin). This massive load had no impact on the performance or handling...
Having fun spotting folk I know in the Spokes bulletin (thanks to our friendly delivery). Right back to 1979 :) Makes me feel like a proper local.
Did I ever mention that I had an Elephant Bike?
That reminds me, I was spotted yesterday on Princes St by Suzanne Forup. I was on my ex-DaveC Elephant Bike*, and we had a wee chat about them.
* I had to look it up on the RAL website, and apparently mine is officially 'Green Beige'. It's not 'sand', it's not 'sahara latte', it's not BL 'Whitehall Beige' or 'Armadillo Beige', or 'Sandglow' or 'Cashmere Beige'. It's not even meant to be 'Primrose'!
I'm also wondering if I've been delinquent in renewing my Spokes subscription. :-( My vertical filing system does need pruning.
A couple of months ago I filed my entire vertical tower into the shredder and went full e-billing on anything I'd been holding out on. It was a good feeling.
Lots of MTBers near Longyester presumably on the Capital Trail. Didn't see anyone I knew but my word lots of beards
Last tropical Friday cycling through the Meadows which looked like a beach by the Med, so covered with bodies. I was behind a Deliveroo guy. Normally these guys shoot about like comets but he was slow and wavering about. Then he turned on to the grass. Figured someone had been lying on the Meadows, felt peckish and ordered some food to be brought to them.
handcyclist, I guess, on the NEPN on the way to Silverknowes. His companion had stopped to use his phone. I was the woman going the other way on a TT bike who asked if you were OK.
Chap on a Bike and Go bike eastbound on Roseburn Place
Very swanky folding electric bike inside edfoc launch last night. And a massive sit up and beg double stand taking up a good deal of space out by the bins. Is double stand a thing? Anyway th kickstand was of a design that meant the bke remained perpendicular to the pavement and did not tilt. WAs a jolly launch.
Encountered a very cheery @gembo on the canal this evening, riding a bike bedecked with flags. He shouted something about an Elephant as we passed each other.
@greenroofer, I was boiling, I had put on all wet weather gear and as the car transporter guy who parks down back of new street predicted, it Stoped raining by the time I got to the top of new street. I just could not be bothered to stop and disrobe so I cycled slowly and boiled. Bike train handily replaced the last flag from POP that I recently removed, yesterday with another of his flags. This one has a charming bend near the top. Some cyclists do not like it tickling their noses but most seem happy enough.
chdot going north down Mayfield Road
@roibeard heading from Meadows up Chalmers St
@SRD I heard the hail, but couldn't see the hailer...
Robert
Gembo I think. End of George Street, Thursday night about 6.40. I was just heading to Waverley to get the train to Glasgow to start the Fort William c2c.
Red Ridley ?
It was actually the jacket I noticed.
@iainmcr, nay lad, black Tricross. What jacket? Last time you saw me I was cycling / drinking I n a blue Birdseye Charles tyrwhit jermyn street shirt (sale)
I did have a red endura jacket on last night as was supposed to be raining. Was boiling in it.
Crossing the Viewforth lights on Polwarth Terrace this afternoon, I saw a chap coming the other way riding at a reasonable pace with an English Bulldog running along on a lead beside him. The dog looked quite hot...
I also saw a chap on an interesting small-wheeled bike with a very long stem and extremely high handlebars and, a bit earlier, three people in road garb on road bikes heading along Colinton Road. These latter three were interesting because the last of them was towing a child trailer with a head-lolling child in it.
ECA, last day tomorrow.
Family cycling along North Meadow Walk earlier. Mum on road bike, dad on a Helios tandem, with child stoker and toddler in a seat on the rear rack of the tandem.
Corstorphine cycling mafia today:
HankChief on Corstorphine Road, solo on the BigRig. I was on foot with two unruly dogs so never waved.
Later saw Claire on the Pinkhill path being the epitome of everyday cycling on her fab Gazelle. I was dog walking again, but we stopped for a quick chat and Claire had a good fuss over the dogs.
Apologies Stickman - I was in a daze from having seen a 'People make Glasgow' Nextbike locked up outside the zoo...
How did that get there?!
Apparently there is a maximum amount you'll be charged in 24h (£5 if you have a membership, £10 if you don't).
That's not a bad price to hire a bike for a day.
@Frenchy that was us heading home, we headed out to the Family cycling event in the morning, went to the museum, and were on the way home from a BBQ in Duddingstone.
