@Greenroofer was this Saturday? I was indeed on foot with BOFFOF who had just taken me to see Despicable Me 3 for my birthday. We decided to risk the rain, got very, very wet and then the rain stopped when we were about 3 minutes from home...

@fimm - yes it was Saturday. We too had been to see Despicable Me 3, which I must say I rather enjoyed. There were quite a lot of 80s music and cultural references in it that went right over the heads of the majority of my party (seeing as they are at primary school) but amused me considerably.

We waited until the rain had gone before riding home.

I was pleased to spot on the way home a chap that I haven't seen in ages but who I used to spot with such precise regularity that one day I left for work TWO HOURS earlier than I normally do and I STILL spotted him in the usual place.

@arellcat in Corstorphine on a skinny recumbent. Loved the shrink wrapped look for the luggage/rear of the bike.

That bike is fast, but it's definitely the least pleasant to ride that I've ever used. The tailbag is a semi-monocoque, made of Decathlon's finest* yoga mats with corrugated plastic ribs!

This afternoon I spotted a dark green Elephant Bike atop a canal boat that was moored near the lifting bridge.

@arellcat, any suggestion it was heading out towards Ratho, any sign of a wee dog?

Deliveroo courier on Bike & Go hire bike. Stop-gap or could it be economically viable to work like that? The front rack certainly allowed him to take the enormous container off his back.

I was on the Council's Atlas last night, looking at their core paths and proposed core paths (Saturday nights are serious fun time for me!).

Spotted a proposed path going through the grounds of Liberton High School. I cycle past one end of it pretty much every day, yet I'd never noticed it, and since it wasn't on OSM either, I thought I'd go look at it.

I realise it's not a core path yet, and so they may be planning on fixing this before it becomes on, but the sheer number of barriers to get to it was rather impressive:

It gets better. There's an MTB skillz track in there...if you have the skills to get past the ironmongery.

Yes, I discovered that. My skills were sufficient to get me past the ironmongery, but are most definitely not sufficient to get me onto the MTB track itself.

Spotted: the on-ramp to the southbound Leith Walk off-road cycle path is not blocked any more. Not sure if it's officially open or not?

Spotted: Dougal, using said path for his commute.

It stops all too soon, but it's nice while it lasts. It's going to get pretty busy pretty fast though.

2 cyclists pedalling N-bound about 7.10am on the A90 dual carriageway. They were past the Craigies turn-off where no cycles are permitted and the next possible exit was the main Queensferry roundabout just before the bridge...

Went for a bimble on the motorbike this evening and, amazingly, spotted hankchief powering towards Roslin village.

At 18.5mph. After something like 700km. Chapeau!

To be honest I think he was managing quite well without!

Thanks to gembo for spotting that I had left my pannier undone after stopping to put on waterproof trousers this morning (if it was just a friendly greeting, it prompted me to realise that I had left the top open in any case).

Cyclist approaching Coltbridge viaduct on NEPN who was cycling with no hands and throwing shapes. We were on foot and gave him plenty of space when he went to pass. He somehow managed to lose control and landed face first on the tarmac. I reckon a mixture of embarassment and adrenaline got him back on the bike and moving again. Hope his bruises aren't too bad today and all the bones are intact!

Bless'em they're being good sports about it. Unfortunate that twitter polls only have 4 options, but they could have gone for
    Car
    Public Transport
    Cycle/walk
    Train

An Elephant Bicyclist heading west on the towpath this evening. We each pointed at our own steed* as we passed, and said 'nice bike' with great glee. I'm not certain that it's the same chap I've passed before, as his hair seemed less red.

*did I ever mention that I had an Elephant Bike?

The man-on-bike who exited Brunswick Road and turned right immediately to contra-flow the traffic before joining the elevated cycle path in front of the kitchen shop. Not at all sure of the legality of any of that *but* it's exactly the kind of thing people are going to do and will serve to highlight just how narrow the new cycle lane is compared to the potential use.

On the way home from dropping off the little Greenroofers at Marchmont St Giles church just after 0900 this morning, I overtook two Burley trailers being towed westbound along Whitehouse Terrace.

In the mid-afternoon, while waiting at the same church, I saw a bakfiets with two passengers turn out of Whitehouse Terrace and head north along Kilgraston Road to Marchmont.

Is there some establishment down there popular with small children and parents (dads, in every case today) who appreciate fine bikes?

turned right immediately to contra-flow the traffic before joining the elevated cycle path in front of the kitchen shop.

My limited experience of unidirectional cycle paths on the continent tells me that you need to expect about 10% contra-flow due to people joining/leaving from side roads and not crossing to the 'correct' side until at least the next major junction.

Very shiny silver bike in basement, silver frame, silver forks, silver forks, silver mudguards. He brakes came out of the bar ends and went back up the handlebars. Imitation brooks saddle. Thing of beauty

Two Sinclair C5s being piloted across from MMW to Forrest Road - advertising a Fringe show, I think.

  30. @dougal The fact that (a) there's a 'segregated' path on the pavement, and (b) that cyclists are using it before it's open is causing the usual wailing and gnashing of teeth on the 'I Love Leith'* FB group.

*Most of the time there's very little love for Leith or those who live in it in this group ;-)
