Ned Boulting Bromptoning up the Canongate, overtaking a big line of snarled up motors.
Look very dapper. Not David Millar dapper, but dapper nonetheless.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Bloke with trailer carrying blue square bucket full of soapy water. Both times in Fountainbridge.

@jdanielp
You win CCE this week.
Mr SRD on the Glenbrook back road out of Balerno just there. I was disguised as person showing Newly qualified teacher how to cycle to east Calder.
Sadly, not sure if Mr SRD knew but there is a very bad accident on the A 70 out of Balerno with fire brigade, ambulance and police. Number of drivers involved. Ongoing incident. Bikes are getting down the pavement. Lot of bikes out in the sun tonight.
Hercules transport aircraft just flew low over the house, en route to the Tattoo.
@crowriver just saw it leisurely drifting over the Meadows after emerging over the crags... I'm guessing that the amount of fuel that it was burning to stay up there was massively at odds to its appearance.
according to Edinburgh reporter, today was an A400M Atlas ; tomorrow hercules.
Went over us too. didn't see it until it was past and thought it was an odd flight path for a biggish plane.
Hmmm... when locking up my bike at MCC tonight I noticed that an attempt to cut the cable had been made.
They only managed to cut the plastic cover and haven't made any impression on the metal inside.
Does make me wonder when the attempt was?
Can't think I've locked up anywhere that dodgy recently...
Lovely cycle yesterday morning down to Musselburgh for work ( I gave up claiming travel expenses about two years ago, but would have netted me £2.50). Noticed two new parks in Bingham land. One is next to the cycle path but fenced off. The other is next to the path but I fenced such that if you went by on a tandem, the stoker could jump off, use the flying fox zip wire and then jump back on. Might take some practice.
A van belonging to the Northern Lighthouse Board. In Currie.
I must have passed the site of the bad accident gembo mentions as I remember noticing a lot of glass on the road plus sand that they put down to absorb oil/diesel - but I couldn't tell you where it was!

Some spotters tips to tell the difference.
- The horizontal stabiliser (i.e. tailfin) of the Atlas is at the top of the tail (a T-tail), the Hercules has it in the more conventional position at the base of the tail.
- The wing of the Atlas has a swept back leading edge, the Hercules is fairly straight.
- The wheel fairings along the side of the fuselage of the Atlas are much larger, curvier and more pronounced than the Hercules
- The Atlas is generally much chunkier, the Hercules has a fairly slender fuselage and wing.
- The Atlas costs about 5 times the price per unit than the Hercules.
A commuting unicyclist near Edinburgh Park station last Thursday afternoon.
Spotted a Hawk trainer flying very low over Lochranza last week.
Also lots, and lots of cyclists on Arran generally. The surprising thing was how respectfully most drivers treated them, being patient and overtaking well.
Holidays must chill people, suspect the same drivers will be trying to kill the same cyclists on the mainland this week.
@Baldcyclist - no, you can tell the mainlanders very clearly when they drive just like the usual incompetents.
"according to Edinburgh reporter, today was an A400M Atlas ; tomorrow hercules."
Aha. Well it was just a glancing look, I heard it then saw it lumbering into the distance, and thought "Hercules? Probably."
Also had a flyover by two Hawk trainers (T2 variant I think) at low altitude last week while working in the allotment. They were flying incredibly close to each other, almost touching, one rolling slightly to starboard. Also heading, naturally, to the Tattoo.
Oh I notice the Strathclyde polis helicopter is back in fair Edina today, hovering on the approach to Holyrood palace. I presume royalty is in town...
@SRD steaming east on the Meadows this morning, helmet flashing sci-fi style. Didn't recognise them immediately due to the fantastic new volume of hair under said helmet of which I am quite jealous.
A guy struggling to balance an office chair on his handlebars before he set off on Morrison St.
Hoping beyond hope he was taking the chair home for his ferret.
"@SRD steaming east on the Meadows this morning"
was that me steamingin fury around 10am because of the 27 bus that drove into the ASL at viewforth on full red? and the complete @£%!! that was KIngs junction because one idiot had stopped where they shouldn't and messed everything up for everyone else? not to mention the private hire that came out of tarvit on a full red?
OR
was that me in an even worse mood while retracing my steps around 10.30 having got to the office, discovered I'd left my computer at home and had to go home and collect it, which included the junction at Viewforth being without lights, so that all the cars coming from the bridge just steamed through, leaving me sitting there wondering what wasteland of inconsiderate drivers i was marooned in?
"wondering what wasteland of inconsiderate drivers i was marooned in"
Edinburgh?
where I come from, if lights are out, you treat the junction a four way stop, and take turns going. i had no idea that the highway code lacked any such guidance. it's just some 'might make right'. and to make matters worse they all gave me a little wave as they went by, sitting there, unable to do anything. madness.
@SRD
The 10h00 version. Focused, certainly.
Guess what?
" If the traffic lights are not working, treat the situation as you would an unmarked junction and proceed with great care."

I might have been cycling behind bill on canal towpath heading into town a little after 6pm ish last night? After gradually catching up, I decided that I couldn't be bothered overtaking, dropping back a few bike lengths in an attempt to avoid being an overbearing 'ding dong' bum-tinkler...
@jdanielp
What do you think of a CCE 'rat hat' helmet-topper so that canal commuters can recognise each other?
Oh. Spotted. Driver of BMW doing 20 in the 20 zone on Slateford Road. I was cycling behind him.
Mini biketrain spotted the Helios belonging to Hankchief at West End today
