@IWRATS that would be quite distinctive and would also help to keep the towpath clear of freshly squashed rodent corpses.

Saw a guy on what looked like a cross between a penny farthing and a scooter this morning on the Saughton path. Genuinely intrigued!

Spotted Uberuce powering up the Biggar Road towards Fairmilehead. I was in disguise as a car passenger, motoring out to the Park and Ride at Straiton.

What a coincidence - I saw Uberuce as well yesterday doing his day job. Must be a blue moon.

I was out his way at start of summer and had been cycling from stow to Heriot then Innerleithen then back up granites, through his neck of the woods then on to his commute and I thought to myself, I could bump into uberuce now, it is about his home time and Lo he appeared on the other side of the road.

He gets about but not on here no more.

    A foot-bike?

Saw someone on one of those electronic hipster monowheels on the Restalrig path last weekend.

fimm, unfortunate that it was worth of being spotted. I assume it was doing it of it's own accord and didn't have a driver as is usual for these vehicles.

Biketrain, is a mini biketrain just a bike?

The guy on the big skateboard pulled by two huskies that I think has been spotted before cruising on the Meadows. Not sure if he or the dogs were grinning more.

@wingpig at the corner of Albion Road and Albion Place, as I walked past the garage. One block further on there were two communal bins taking pride of place in the middle of the pavement and the lady pushing a pram and I shared our thoughts on the matter.

This afternoon and again this evening I saw a guy zooming along on what looked like a motorised unicycle (ie he was standing above a motorised wheel with no pedaling involved). I wasn't sure whether he was standing or sitting.

This evening he and I kept pace down Morrison Street, I was slightly ahead going from Haymarket, along West Coates to Roseburn (13 mph according to Strava), but then I was stopped at the traffic lights. He hopped effortlessly between the pavement and road depending on which lights were in his favour. He crossed at pedestrian lights, and then zoomed along the bus lane in front of me and I didn't manage to catch him by the time I reached Pinkhill. Pfft.

I've just been asking Mr Google what sort of vehicle he was using and it looks like one of these (and article says can do up to 22 mph!)

Has anyone else seen one of these around?

And are they legal for use on pavements and/or roads?

    @jules

Segway and electric mono wheels not legal on the road nor the pavement in the U.K.

Took lovely wee backroad to Winchburgh from south Queensferry this morning. At the castle all covered in scaffy that Geoffrey makes his kilts at - Duntarvie? We glanced back towards Pentlands and saw the steam train chuffing towards town.

Also spotted the Kincardine bridges from above Linlithgow due to the extreme clarity of the morning, you could see for miles.

Took the peloton to look at the pink aeroplane parked in its garage above winchburgh on way out so that after we descended from Binny Crag and round the Bing behind Broxburn I could say did you see the PInk aeroplane and they could finally say yes.

Finally we cycled on Edinburgh's longest piece of completely segregated cycle path (well it goes for a mile) from Edinburgh sign outside Broxburn to newbridge.

    Two policemen on bikes

At MCC this week the Police officer told us that they had been doing many more patrols on bikes as they found them the perfect speed to cover wide distances but still be approachable to the community around them...

    Who knew...

I saw a couple of policemen on bikes one evening last week heading towards Bristo Square. I noted that both bikes were equipped with flashing lights to the rear.

@HankChief - also less hard on the knees than pounding pavements.

@hankchief, perfct also for phoning carry out restuarant from. Then heading there and picking up your curry which will be ready as you arrive and still warm when you get back to the station, no need for sirens.

I saw two cycle police on the Bridges yesterday afternoon. We need more of them all year. Stick a battery on the bike if need be so pedalling polis don't need to be exceptionally fit.

An electric bike zoomed pass me and other cyclists on the towpath this morning in Wester Hails. I know this area is quite open and it was still before 7am but is there any sort of speed limit on shared paths?
(Perhaps my question is a bit silly because I image than some road cyclists could easily go with such speed as well)

Given the lack of a speedometer, it's difficult to conceive of a speed limit for cycles. The best that can be hoped for is the commonsense approach of "responsible access".

Unfortunately the towpath is a traffic free cycling route (so attractive) but is too narrow for the volume of usage. A safe cycleway would be the best option, yet to materialise...

Chatted to a guy on a lovely old-school tourer in greeny-gold metal flake paint with no brand stickers, matching bar tape and weathered Crane brass bell. Turned out he'd got it refurbished after security at his work drove their van into it.

He was polite about the Scaffolding Bike™, being a gentleman.

@IWRATS, when you say polite, you mean he made no mention?
