Dougie Vipond being filmed on a narrow boat heading out of town on the canal this morning. It looked like the camera crew (one on the boat, the other up on North Meggetland Bridge) looked like they were between takes as I cycled by, but it is plausible that I might be visible in the background in a future segement of Landward or similar.

I'll need to be more careful of my reputation. First I was spotted as a pedestrian then I was spotting from a car.

Thankfully yesterday the tagalonger and I were riding along the canal towpath when we spotted a flock of people cycling along the canals. Their "bikes" had no wheels and two large floats but we're standard rigid MTB frames.

The Aquabikes from Bridge 8. Saracen MTBs on a racing pedalo. Built by the Bike Station. We should really have a CCE outing.

@IWRATS - £24 per hour, I think. Seems quite expensive...

@acsimpson - you're not one of those mutli-modalists are you?

You should head over to CMME ;-)

Well they can go whistle for that, but I'm happy to haggle.

    That's the things.

    from the Bridge 8 site:

    Canal based rental 90mins £24ppph

So does that mean a minimum of £36 then?

I guess they were cheap to build but compared to £15 for whole day mountain bike hire feel very steep.

gembo, the all seemed to be enjoying themselves. The ones going forwards more so. I suspect the others were just laughing at themselves.

There's a fellow I've spied a couple of times now on the NEPN who heads west from Leith towards Roseburn around 830AM. He has a filthy singlespeed/fixie with tri-bars on the front, I notice him because he overtakes me and I can't keep up! I doubly notice him because despite being crouched low over his "aero" handlebars he wears a socking great combat rucksack in desert storm camouflage.

Imagine how fast he'd be with panniers!

  18. The most over-the-top hi-viz wearer on the NEPN last Thursday, just around the Ainslie Park secton. For a moment I was convinced there'd be people around filming him and it'd be something that was part of a comedy show - but no. This guy was genuinely wearing this stuff.

Must check my footage and get a few screenshots

A Specialized Comp racing bike, Shimano 105, nice ride, though far from brand new propped against a Sheffield stand in town with a cheap lock through the front wheel and frame, not through the stand....hope it's there when the owner gets back.

just recalled that on Tuesday morning I saw a heavily Ortliebed tourer heading into town at Murrayfield, he hada wee flagpole on the back of the bike with a German, EU and Saltire flag on it and what looked like an outline of Scotland. I wondered that he may be cycling the entire coastline from the Solway to the Tweed.

I think @Frenchy might have eyeballed my automobile with two bicycles on the roof on Gilmerton Road this morning at 10h00.

I was going south, he north.

SRD and also MrSRD shortly after the grand depart from the High Street. I was in the process of hotfooting back over to Bristo Square in time to catch the peleton cover the last section of my commute, albeit in the wrong direction and at a considerably faster pace than I manage. Brief but fun.

Green Cllr Chas Booth spotted and hailed me on my second lap as I was powering up Buccleuch Street so I slowed for a chat since he was taking it easy with a small passenger. I remarked on how nice it was to cycle on closed roads and suggested every Sunday. Chas suggested every day...
