Looks like the motor is in the front.

@trixie, that looks very correct. I thought Twas drum brake but has caliper style brake on rim. I have seen a motor in the back wheel, bit bigger and in the BB but that is first front wheel drive I have seen

Wish I had hung about to say hi to the rider now! They might have been interesting.

I'm amused that due to its cobbled together appearance, it's probably the only leccy bike in Edinburgh that can be casually left without a massive u-lock on it. :D

My motor is in the rear. I'm not very techy-minded but I feel like having it in front might make for rather excitable steering til you're used to it.

Front wheel drive kits imported from China are quite cheap to buy on fleaBay. I was looking into retrofitting the Ute at one time, but decided not to bother. If you search around on t'internut, you can find examples of Kona Utes. Youba Mundos and other long-tail cargo bikes with these front wheel electric assist motors fitted. Never seen one on a Dawes Galaxy but why not?

The exact kit that has been used in that example is available here for less than £500:

Bearded recliner on prom would be Rad (Polish reclined division).
Saw two tandems today ... one being a Helios.
Took our tandem out to Gosford Bothy today. Felt faster after the NL trip.
Lots of cyclists coming back in from EL.
    Very few motorbikes.
Wonder why? Maybe bikers go back to driving at this time of year?

It was absolutely hoachin' with motorbikes at the Cove in Queensferry. Not been there in donkey's so dunno if it's always that busy when it's cold.

anyone else spot the group of tandem riders on the FRB about 11am Sunday - i dont know what the collective noun is for so many tandem riders.

    tademiens?

rider73, could it have been talking tandems? Their stokers are all blind or partially sighted. They are based in the Bay.

My wife's e-bike is front wheel powered. It's also 20" wheels and folding and has a binary pedal switch which can make it a very lively ride.

    He was fully demisted.

Cut through from Cycle Republic to Loudens / Fountainbridge down to narrow corridor with building works. 'Cyclists Dismount' signs. Too narrow for trailers probably to pass people walking. Right angled blind corner = potential collision zone

Rosie, If you mean they were going a step at a time that's impressive. I've seen an occasional mountainbike go that way but I don't think you could call it controlled.

Spotted a nicely attired bike at swimming lessons today Brass bell, Brookes saddle and child trailer. If it was you then do introduce yourself, we should be obvious as we've got more helmets than wheels.

Ours was the only bike when we arrived but there were 5 by the time we left less than an hour later.

Monday - bronze pedersen being parked outside Peter's yard.

Today - urban arrow with nursery/school age passengers on NMW (not the weezees)

@stickman - BigRig was fixed and back on the School run today.

Had you observed closer last night you would have seen @greenroofer's much talked about and very heavy Elephant bike locked up next to mine.

Must have been a big job (adding all that weight). I did spot harts working on it late on Monday night so stopped in for a quick chat.

Outside the Stockbridge Health Centre on India Place yesterday. What is this creature? Lights built into the top tube fore and aft!

    @unhurt That's a van moof

also spotted the west Edinburgh Bakfiets in the racks at Costa on St John's Road this morning. The cover was fully deployed on the box. Not sure how it would fare weight wise against the souped-up Elephant Bike.

Cheers, @Stickman. That's FANCY! (Though it does also seem to be trying to look like it's built out of scaffolding - possible design trendsetting from @Iwrats?)

Not my spot, but a friend on holiday in Japan wants to know what the deal is with the double rear wheel on this tandem:

Maybe helps balance? Or allows you to keep going despite a puncture?

@HankChief - nice to bump into you. A bit disappointed by lack of cycle parking but the new route through the hospital to Morningside is very promising.

We've never had trouble parking there - there are railings towards the north end that look like elongated bike racks. Very handy. Staff admired tandem :). I think it's been every year since they started.
