@Snowy technically overheard, not spotted? If we were being pedantic, which of course we're not.

@Frenchy - ice cream van bicycle parked outside Cycle Service about 11.20a.m. today.

Urban Arrow Coolbox XL model. New demo for any business looking for a van alternative. Got in expectation that we will become more European in our transport options to meet air quality directives.
Going to be garaged at LB for a while.

@lmacinnessnp @CyclingEdin @LaidBackBikes @UrbanArrowcom @edfoc @SpokesLothian Why not pay a visit to @OutspokenDeliv in Glasgow & see how they have grown in just 3 years. With an Edinburgh equivalent & using @ICRFControl proven system with @ScotRail (@AlexHynes to note) we could have 1 hour door to door for pathology & other urgent deliveries GLW-EDB

@BCCletts @CyclingEdin @LaidBackBikes @UrbanArrowcom @edfoc @SpokesLothian @OutspokenDeliv @ICRFControl @ScotRail @AlexHynes Already met with them earlier in autumn to discuss their operations and possible applications in Edinburgh. Very interesting model, good meeting.

Someone should probably start a new 'delivery by bike' thread.

Me too the commute into and out of Edinburgh has become festooned with huge delivery lorries, sainsburys and beer delivery being the big culprits. Yesterday seemed particularly mad. The tin lid was put on it around shandon when I was cycling west in the bike lane and a car pulled across from the east lane and parked right on the corner in the bike lane but he seemed to think he was ok as he was just touching the double red line so could not see why I had any gripe. This was due to him needing to phone someone as mate from the commute Trev caught up with me much further on at kingsnowe climb and yet knew exactly who I was talking about. This driver not a delivery person just a Dick. However, sainsburys need to deliver their crisps to the dozen corner shops they run around student land. And the beer has to be poured down the cowgate. And both must be delivered in big trucks that hold up the traffic. What else could they do? I mean this is how other medieval cities in Europe do it, isn't it? Oh wait no they don't they ban bigger lorries and they limit deliveries to town centre's to times outwith the commute?

The main hubs for supermarkets are out Bathgate way. Well Tesco, Nisa and Scotmid. Deliveries come up the M74 I guess. From there they could have smaller vans running on electricity? Maybe? We have on this forum @Splitshift who is a very responsible driver of the bigger trucks? He could maybe advise on what leverage would have to occur to make this even remotely possible?

One of the more interesting aspects of the government's climate change strategy was investigating the use of logistics centres for cities - the last mile could then be done in smaller vehicles. I suspect they meant vans, but the ECF (I think) has done some work on using logistic centres + cargo bikes.

A bumper day of spotting for me (mainly twitterati though)

    In West Edinburgh @MummyCycle, @CrabbitCopy & for the 1st time @trappain

On the High Street a recumbent & trailer based street performer (Ruggratom?).

And sitting in learner driver car (with their name on) blocking the Macdonald Road Cycle path, a unsuccessful candidate from the CEC council election who if I'm not mistaken were wearing a sweatshirt with their party's name on.

I could remember it was something like that not exactly what his handle was. The search function is sadly lacking if you can't remember what they were called.

Not ex councillor, just a unsuccessful candidate.

We knew the previous one was Edinburgh and it didn't contain the hills.

Anyone else see some brave soul had parked up and pitched their tent at the side of the NEPN this morning? Just next to Craigleith milepost.

@Laidback (mutual spot) piloting two recumbents alone. Yes really.

Standard Monday post-school swimming trip - birthday coincidental, how on earth could you tell? Was it the deafening shout of "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY" or do you have some sixth sense?

Brings my own child transport adventures all back to me! Ours always loved the journeys by bike across town. Meadows though has playparks which had to be avoided when in a hurry.

@resurf yes I noticed that too about 750AM. It was a fairly high-end tent (Mountain Hardwear) and there was a touring bike locked to the lamp post nearby, I wondered if someone had got lost while touring and imagined it to be a secluded leafy glade when they made camp the night before.
