That would need a lot of cable ties! On the other hand a puncture would be less catastrophic.

Actually Mr fimm saw them somewhere near the Colinton Tunnel and I saw them between Saughton Park and Murrayfield. (I should have taken a photo.)

I was thinking that the river was higher than sometimes which might make it more passable by kayak. Not that I know anything about these things.

One of my favourite spots is when I, @I were right about that saddle spot @i, which I just did while doing the shopping in Morrisons.

When we first met at PoP 2015 I said 'Hi, i, I'm I were right about that saddle', a sentence never before pronounced on the surface of this planet.

Are there certain people with whom you use your full Sunday name and others you go for the simpler "Iwrats"?

'Hi, i, I'm I were right about that saddle'

You missed a trick there, could have been "Aye aye, i, I'm I were right about that saddle".

    @Hankchief

The contraction hadn't become totally ingrained at that time.

    @Frenchy

Aye, rats! 'Aye aye' is my standard greeting for passing adult male walkers/runners/cyclists too...

@Iwrats. Thanks for the clarity. Out of interest when did Gembo Gembo Gembo get shortened to just "Gembo"?

And now I'm wondering if I'm pronouncing "Iwrats" correctly. I-wrats? Iraats? Eerats?

@jdanielp sounds like JDP in my head.

@chdot I mentally pronounce as Ch-dot ( "ch" as in the start of "choose" but cut off hard after the h).

eta: my standard greeting for passing adult male walkers/runners/cyclists too... - you have a different greeting for the rest of us?

@hankchief I have always been just Gembo. Some go for Jembo but that is wrong. If I see you but it is clear we are not stopping for Le chittychat, I will raise my right arm and punch the air shouting Hankchief Hankchief Hankchief.

Is this like the .gif pronunciation controversy? (Hard g all the way here.)

( "ch" as in the start of "choose" but cut off hard after the h)

    Nope.

    It’s simply three syllables.

See I know that but it still wants to be ch-dot mentally?

    'Aye-rats' in my head.

I do, yes. Mindful of the menace that an over-familiar angular man might present to a female human on her own I do use another greeting in that circumstance. I do recognise gender in everyday life.

I say 'see-aitch-dot' and 'srid' in my head also.

I've always pronounced chdot as "see aitch dot", and in my head for IWRATS I say "aye rats".

Before I understood its etymology, I thought recombodna was pronounced "ree com bodna", and not "recombo dee en ay"*

I presume that SRD is pronounced "S R D" and not "Surd", for that would surely be 'absurd'**.

    * I don't have the International Phonetic Alphabet committed to memory yet.
** Just a little joke, there.

@Arellcat - not just absurd, but simply irrational.

But is @steveo "stev ee oh", "steev ee oh" or "steev oh"?

I still say '"reh com bodna".

Token traffic warden outside the school this morning, I doubt the repeat offenders will take the hint but if nothing else it helps when the kids are most hyper.

Almost forgot a treat for the CCE Greyhound Fanciers section. Spotted a Podenco in the pub. Douce hispanic greyhound fitted with priapic Yoda ears.

Lovely dogs, of course. I like their comically oversized paws the most.

Was that @daisydaisy heading west on Balcarres Street just before 5pm today? I was heading east, was concentrating on the traffic and, in dark, wasn't sure enough of the spot to wave.

    I hope you rehomed it?

Meanwhile, I looked up Podencos and now I'm thoroughly upset on behalf of ill-treated Spanish dogs. I might need to adopt about ten.

The podenco seemed to have two utterly besotted owners and a small pack of peers. They said they both worked shifts and occasionally needed dog care when those clashed....
