Is there a more self-consciously miserable group than urban cross-country skiers?
I'd have thought it would be like riding a unicycle - you're doing it for a laugh and to get folk looking. But no, eyes down, soor puss all the ones we met. Weird.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

My cousin was cross-country skiing in Glasgow today and she looks DELIGHTED in all her pictures. Maybe it's an Edinburgh thing?
@unhurt
Could be. Some weird intrusion of Presbyterianism into the winter sports/active travel matrix?
She is from Inverness though...
Out this morning scraping the pavement (a Sisyphean task at present), having decided work at home for the third day in a row, I spotted @Morningsider wielding a shovel too. He was clad in fluorescent cycling jacket and looked as if he was planning to ride to work.
Having waded through the surprisingly deep snow between our houses to check if he actually was planning to cycle to work, I was relieved to find that he wasn't. The yellow jacket was just the first windproof thing to hand.
Phew! That's the peer pressure reduced slightly.
Mr fimm and his friend commented that they got lots of positive interactions (greetings, requests to take their photo, comments of the "that's the way to travel" type) while skiing up the canal and WoL path (I suspect they were among the skiers gembo saw, as they also saw the guy on the fat bike) - rather different from their usual reception when they are in their usual guise of bloodycyclists.
I like XC skiing too but might be considered semi-miserable / pessimistic...
One on MMW seemed happy. He is only user of cycle path at moment.
Man on towpath today earphones and texting for about a minute as I rang my bell and he did not look up. I stopped for hom, he looked up and said You have the hail path. I just laughed, I imagine had i buzzed him he would not have liked that either.
In more interesting news - stalactites in the Easter Hailes Gait Tunnel (Colinton)
Kid on a sledge being pulled by a man on a bike on the canal path
bike snow plough, have picture but struggling to upload, is old but good and in Edinburgh

Arobcomp spotted me at the confluence of towpath and WoL path
What an amazing cycle home, the channel in the ice dwindling the higher up I went. Beautiful darl night, mutinous water of leith ice bound currents
I saw a woman walking through the snow holding a pair of wellies. As I got closer I saw she was wearing flip-flops with no socks. In the words of Paul McCartney - very strange.
Guy playing with his dog in the snow. One of those plastic tennis ball launcher things. But he was launching a shoe. The dog was delighted. Most peculiar mama.
@gembo - bike snow plough - was that not @Dave (McCraw) invention? Not often on forum these days.
Spotted @wingpig on foot near EICC (I think)
@laidback, Dave quite busy, he may have had one but this was Eric a former council employee clearing a cycle path in east lothian
@LaidBack Were you on a not-recumbent?
@stephanmatthiesen, occasionally of this parish, leaving a councillor's surgery as I was going in. Full on uncoordinated active travel assault.
@wingpig - on foot.

Any joy to share?

I pointed out a few things such as particularly problematic chicanes and the general lack of good cycling infrastructure in south Edinburgh (and the lack of plans for such). I explicitly mentioned connections to the new Sheriffhall roundabout.
All suggestions were received positively. Whether they ever bear fruit...
“Whether they ever bear fruit...“
Probably worth following up with an email.
Cabin cruiser at lochrin basin has a bike on the back which has one big back wheel and one tiny front wheel with a cargo box above it.
Not like this then?
Hankchief and the Chieflets on the big bike this morning.
@chdot yes like that
Spotted our favourite tricyclist at the Queen's Hall so presumably the stolen trike recovered or replaced?

I believe it was found a week ago, but I'm not sure if it's been returned yet.
@chdot, yes like that except called an Omnium
@gembo I have been spotting a bike of that description being cycled around town by a Deliveroo person lately.
