I too saw Greenroofer's massive panniers today. At first I thought one of those pop up tents had exploded at the back of his bike.
Does it need planning permission?
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Does it need planning permission?
More importantly, was there a consultation?
I imagine that there may be a consultation taking place inside one of the panniers right now...
Actually, the massive panniers have just proved their worth taking a large number of stamped addressed envelopes from a Spokes envelope-stuffing session to the nearest post box. This is actually what the bike (and the panniers) were designed for and they are both quite good at that.
gembo has not yet satisfactorily explained what he was doing on the towpath so far west, and well out of what I consider to be his usual haunts.
I heard jdanielp approaching from behind, due to his elegant bell.
I gave @jdanielp the info that he was in good position to catch @greenroofer
I have been using towpath then Heriot watt of late as my route. Indeed sometimes will bowl along long dalmahoy and up ravelrig.
Just getting a few more miles in. Have Mallorca trip in a few weeks.
When I read the words 'elegant bell' inside my head I heard a drunk person trying to say 'elephant bike'.
Wrong thread- please delete
@Morningsider with a minisider on the bike seat wheeling up pavement on Comiston Road. I was disguised as a bikepacker returning from a flippin' freezing Balerno-Flotterstone-A702 Pavement expedition.
A retrospective spot - going through photographs from a 2007 trip Seattle-San Francisco (aka My First Big Bike Tour) and thinking about maybe actually stringing them together with some words. An impressive vehicle with a lot to say for itself:
Two police quad bikes in the Pentlands at Bavelaw Castle. Eagle patrol perhaps?
This is the best sign I have spotted in years - on a railing near the flat. For real? At minimum "found" sounds more like "borrowed for a ride home"... (Suspect it might have been put up yesterday though.)
"I stumbled across this at 5am on Friday morning outside the Teuchters bar (Westend), it still had the keys in the ignition, so a took it hame (Morningside), please get in contact if you know the owners whereabouts.
Oh aye in a polly bag slung over the back seat there was a half bottle of Buckfast, a pair of slippers and some Amber leaf. Fingers crossed Steve. 07933534123"
@unhurt
Quite possible you have won CCE for 2018 and it's only the end of Q1.
You've texted Steve in the persona of a regular at Oman's, obviously?
It has made my Q1, that much is for sure.
(How much does the clientele of Oman's and Teuchters overlap?)
A Cat in the Hat style city bike outside Portobello's Aldi, yesterday afternoon.
A dashing gent of a certain age riding his Brompton down the ramp at Waverley and straight through the flic-flack gate onto the concourse without touching the brakes. Used the front-mounted briefcase as a sort of shunting buffer.
The new anti-climb scalloped edge to the barrier round the turning circle is a triumph of passive-aggressive health and safety gone torpid.
Someone who looked suspiciously like @unhurt, Seafield.
Someone who looked suspiciously like @urchaidh, also at Seafield.
Any hail?
Not one single stone.
Scotrail InterCity HST set berthed on platform 0 at Haymarket this evening. Must be running trials.
Spotted: Diane's pool hall is no more. Is nothing sacred?
Exchanged greetings with @fimm heading out of Balerno on the A70 this morning. I was heading into town having extended my commute via Carnwath.
@greenroofer, hope you had an espresso and a paradise slice at the apple pie for breakfast? You must have experienced The Quickening this morning young Highlander
@iwrats, yes, Dianne has hung up her cue
@Greenroofer I recall acknowledging a cyclist at some point but I don't recall thinking I recognised them! Apologies.
...extended my commute via Carnwath... you must have got up very early! I have a notion to come home via Carnwath when the days are longer and the weather warmer.
Another (different) Scotrail HST set idling at platform 4 of Dundee station this morning. I have a feeling the introduction of these trains for passenger services may be imminent...
(Aside: is train spotting okay on this thread? :-) )
@crowriver, there are plenty of train spotting posts, they fit the forum demographic reasonably well
"Spotted: Diane's pool hall is no more. Is nothing sacred?"
It shut suddenly about 6 months ago. I've not been in since it changed hands but it wasn't shut long enough for any serious refurb so I'm curious to see how it looks inside.
So the HST set which has been based at Dundee station sidings for a few months is now at Haymarket platform 0 as of this evening (replacing the city skyline paint job HST set that was there yesterday evening). Seem to be lots of HST movements on the network at the moment...
