Someone on an electric bike this morning as I drove through the small town nearest to where I grew up. This was astonishing enough, but in the next five minutes I then saw three other people on bikes.

Deliveroo rider on e-bike - nothing unusual there except this was totally electric powered, no pedalling required. He set off from lights and went uphill without a single pedal at about 20mph. Is that legal?

    Nope...

Was the rider in queston wearing a buff pulled up over his nose, and was it a kind of home-made looking e-bike by any chance?

@unhurt I would make a rubbish witness! It wasn't in Edinburgh. The bike looked fairly standard apart from a very large rear hub.

Legal only if they had a proper vehicle registration, licence and insurance. Oh and motorbike helmet. So most likely not.

Algo heading east on Sciennes? I was in mild disguise as a helmetless MTB-er.

An e bike sold before 01-01-2016 can have a throttle and does not need to be peddled

Hi @Snowy - yes indeed - a late reciprocal shout from me in case you didn't hear it - we must stop spotting each other like these. It's almost as if we live in roughly the same area of town...

A Paperbike with a Bobike Classic Junior on the back heaving to at Broughton Tesco. Those racks really are rubbish.

Lesley MacInnes riding her e-bike south on Craigmillar Park in the dark.

She doesn't ride like one of us yet, but impressive all the same.

I'm intrigued which one of of she doesn't ride like? There's so many of us to choose from.

Too late to edit but I meant to say "which one of us..."

I ride slowly and loudly question in which cereal packet other road users found their driving licence. I assume LM doesn't ride like me, because ebike users can go faster.

    @acsimpson

Like a battle-hardened commuter. I noticed her a good two hundred metres off from the controls of my automobile as she triggered my novice-cyclist-ahoy! alert. I think she veered right as she rear-observed. Something like that.

@Greenroofer has previously noted the existence of a CCE house riding style. Perhaps the only one that permits long-term cycling in Edinburgh; hyper-vigilant, defensive, assertive, calm?

    Ah! Like me then*.

*I accept I am an outlier in the present company.

Observing rears can be quite distracting.

A big black Urban Arrow emerging from the WoL path at the visitor centre by Slateford viaduct. Both rider and $smallpassenger were delighted to see the red torpedo.

Big wave from HankChief as he passed the bus stop I was waiting at. Lots of other bikes passing as well.

Girl of about 10 making deliberate progress on a bike through the residential streets of South Morningside just now. She was wearing no hi-viz, had no helmet and appeared to be unaccompanied by an adult. For these three reasons it was rather wonderful to see her: perhaps she's the start of something big...

An Elephant Bike locked to the racks at Uphall station.

New tarmac laid at the top of the Lanark Road hill, just down from the Gillespie Crossroads.

Small wheeled triplet (adult + two kids) spotted in south of Edinburgh - I missed my gap to pull out in order to confirm for CCE that it wasn't just a tandem with child seat...

Probably a Circe Helios Triplet and no doubt supplied by one of this parish...

Roger Penrose, who is a living god, at the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences. Three talks by artists inspired by Penrose's work first, one inspired by having to re-train her visual system after falling off a bicycle to her great injury.....

....also I nearly died from shame having forgotten to turn my phone off and a CCEer phoned me during the great man's routine.

@iwrats I clearly haven't mastered the 'calm' house style ... Every week i challenge myself can i go the whole week without losing it with someone or telling them to stop f**ing texting ... ..its been many years since i can say i have actually achieved it ... so calm I'm not. :-(

Last night in cowgate I spotted the James Connolly society putting up an information board and some wee flags at their shrine. I can only imagine the anti-James Connolly society will be along to rip it all down shortly. Such is the sectarian strife in these small islands.
