    “Is he on here?”

    No.

    So doesn’t count...

I was spotted on the canal today by a former UoE rector and former MSP

I think there're three people who fit that description - Robin Harper, Mark Ballard and David Steel. I'm guessing it was *redacted for anonymity* who spotted you?

Nope. was trying to be discrete in case he was on here under an anonymous username.

His name did appear in earlier versions. JG's boy?

Surely Baron Steel of Aikwood is too grand to be shouting at @SRD while bicycling on the canal? I mean @SRD is grand, but Baron Aikwood....

His wife has at least one tattoo and Michael Scott of Aikwood was a wizard

Multitude of people at Myreside Stadium Charity fireworks, but I think myself and family were the only people to arrive on bikes. Chaos on the road outside when it was over. People were driving pretty carefully so I guess that's a bonus.

My favourite bit was the pipes and drums if I'm honest.

@arobcomp we have arrived om bikes for past 5 or more years, but walked tonight. just as well, as our usual parking was blocked off. We usually see a few other forumers.

Yeah we ended up with bikes and trailers locked right at the south end near the tex BBQ van and about £10k worth of prams and buggies.

Was a pretty decent show. The nieces seemed to enjoy them and Melody (daughter) liked to point at the fireworks once she'd gotten used to her ear-defenders.

We were at the earlier showing and still saw some CCErs...

Didn't realise there was more than one! That does make sense as it was quite a big set up. We did the 4:30-5:30 one whether that was the earlier or later.

That's the early one. The later one is 7.30pm.

I like the early one, it's just got dark enough for rhe fireworks but you can still get the kids to bed at normal time.

We were watching the Myreside fireworks, from our upstairs window. I had been confused when it started up again later.

Full-width double rainbow against the rising sun over Edinburgh. A feast for the eyes.

What if I saw the double rainbow too? Is that some sort of double reverse spot, which cancels out into a spot?

    @Frenchy

I am rainbowled over to learn that the joy was shared and the sky was tickled pink.

gembo was one of three cyclists who made the right turn from Gilmore Place to Leven Street as I set off slowly from Tarvit Street, keeping the vehicle behind at bay.

@SRD, my reading of CHDot is that it does not count as a spot not that Jg's boy does not count as a human being

Accessed canal towpath this morning at Hermiston and saw gazillions of cyclists including the Mighty Greenroofer, could not hi-5 as was being drafted by the bromptonite

Later at Edinburgh's worst junction spotted Jdanielp, I say spotted, more like cut him up

Very colourful dawn but no rainbows. Did spot beginning and end of a rainbow in Assynt the other month, no gold.

While I was riding to work today the sky had only reached a blueish-red glow, so no rainbowness for me to see. I did see a rainbow in That London on Thursday though.

When you have a spare hour, this is worth watching:

    Edinburgh and London - Remainbows?

There was a person running along Leith Links this morning, heading west past the allotments. I reached them just after the path gets its advisory median line in advance of the two St Mary's chicanes. They were right on the left of the path, so I went right over to the right to pass them. They made what might have been a special running/cycling-group hand signal (splaying the fingers a few times with their right hand held down near their thigh) but they might just have been wriggling it to relieve stiffness/encourage blood flow. Does anyone know of any group-running customs which have official hand signals for approaching cyclists?

wingpig I don't know of any such signals.

@Frenchy Was that @Edinburghcyclecam who overtook me at around 6pm on their way home? Fluorescent rucksack and an incredibly bright rear light.
Yup, that'd be me. I need to do something about that damn light, even if I can find a way to angle it more downward...

    At Liberton golf course?

I think you overtook me in the Inch somewhere, but you were still within sight when you turned off Gilmerton Road, which is when I realised it was probably you. This may say more about your light, which would probably have been visible from Fife, than my speed though.

@Frenchy - Ah yes, did you circumvent the temporary lights by taking the pavement? (I can't find a way to phrase that which doesn't sound accusatory - it's not meant to be)

That back light is annoying; there's 3 settings:
    1. Full brightness
    2. Half(?) brightness
    3. Blinking, full brightness
I'd prefer a flashing half brightness setting, but I'll give the half brightness setting a try for a while - I've had others comment on that light before. There's also no easy way to angle it down; I did try wedging some zipties onto my seatpost to hold it at an angle; maybe black electrical tape would do the job better.

No, I was on the road the whole time. Upright bike and a fluorescent waistcoat

Just checked, you passed during the single lane section.

Would turning the light upside down work?

    OH! Yes, I remember now.

I could try it, but I'm not sure it'd hold securely; I might need to tape or zip-tie it in place (And I'd need to remove it every other day to recharge it).

This is what I have: https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-lights/bike-lights/rechargeable-bike-light-set

@EdinburghCycleCam With a light that shape the easiest way to make it less offensive would be a translucent bottle lid (perhaps a 250ml Innocent smoothie bottle) held on with tape or some sort of tubular rubbery device.
