@winpig Oh, that's a neat idea - I'll give that a go this evening, thanks!
And yes, I might look at investing in some new lights for this winter - my backup pair are terrible (there's a reason they're backup lights)
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

My friend Kim (of BHPC fame, not EdFoC) described the need for multiple bike lights thus:
Because two is one, and one is none.
At the chicane gate where the towpath goes under the Calder Road this evening, I found that the complicated pattern of reflectives facing me resolved itself into the front of a bakfiets-type bicycle with children in the front. This was an unusual, but pleasing, sight.
Yesterday morning on the NEPN around Pilton what I originally thought was a leaf-sweeping mini-brush-wagon resolved into a tadpole cargo trike with a tented front bucket, two lights at each front corner and one in the middle and which was in the middle of the road as its driver was holding a dog on a lead in their left hand
A mobility scooter, well lit, on the road near the Commie last night. (Staying out of the bike lane, interestingly.)
A longboard with front and rear lights being ridden down the cycle lane on Lauriston Place last night.
A cyclist wearing one of those Lumos(?) helmets and no other lighting whatsoever.
I'm not sure if I approve...
Two cyclists wearing Lumoses heading up Leith Street this morning, out of a total of four, excluding me.
About 5 or 6 cyclists waiting Northbound at the temporary lights on Gilmerton Road. I've only ever seen 1 or 2 other cyclists on Gilmerton Road before. But maybe it's because I tend to travel relatively late...
And regarding the eye-blinding rear light: I'm giving the "low brightness" setting a go; it seems far less offensive than I remember, which is good.
Wingpig on the Roseburn path last night.
I thought that noise was probably you but forgot to post it. How was my light?
Fine, bright enough I couldn't see who it was until you were passing but not dazzling.
Hosts of street sweepers and men with brooms on Leith Walk. Finally!
Mrs Original Dave and the twin mini-Daves hanging a right from the towpath. I was even able to say hello using her real name. Aren't I clever
Pavement riding turnip in leeds riding a massive tyre'd (?) scott electric MTB that was spotless. He was going way too fast. Quite frustrating to see when these bikes can make such a difference to so many people yet they get "a bad name" from idiots like this.
I suspect actually that he works in the evans by the station, (where I sometimes lurk when awaiting a train) but will need to check on my return at some point in future.
Wingpig on the Roseburn path last night.
Twice in as many days!
How was my light?
Inoffensive. No noticeable bleed of the main beam into the eyespaces.
piosad clobbering a bollard in george square. it obviously needs more hiviz.
or possibly he was dazzled by my lights...
fimm just after she left the office last night. Looked cheery despite the drizzle.
galaxy was that you passing me as we both went down the hill towards the big roundabout?
Yes, that was me. The end of my commute is on the right at that roundabout.
Spotted the Executive Director of Place Paul Lawrence stood at the Foot of the Walk this afternoon in discussion with someone
Hazarding a guess that it was @Dave who passed me on the aqueduct this evening heading west. Couldn't see his face in the dark but it was definitely a bright, but non-dazzling, Cyo IQ light on the front and Ortlieb red panniers on the back. The person in front of him had a much less well-behaved light.
Original Dave wth Mrs Dave and the mini daves. Arobcomp and mini Arobcomp. All on their bikes all at the Balerno farmers market
Spotted tanned Hollywood-looking fellow surrounded by on-shoulder media cameras and pounced on by selfieists at the edge of Festival Square.
I thought he looked familiar and asked a colleague if anyone famous was in town. Next day she informed me it was David Hasselhoff. Had vague memory of the name and she enlightened me on who he is. My spot rather wasted on me.
Spotted the canal pusher inner causing shenanigans, standing with their bike in front of a council minibus trying to turn right out of Watson Crescent into Yeaman Place. Minibus driver remonstrating loudly in juicy language, with the impression of Traffic Chaos strengthened by all the cars trying work around them (it it match day at Tynecastle so the area is full of parking spot hunters). Did not stop to figure out what was happening as I had the children in tow.
It's not finished, so I assume the barrier will be removed before the final layer of tar is added, but wouldn't it have been far easier to remove the barrier first?
Spotted the same personages as gembo, in the same location, but did not also spot gembo.
@Frenchy, is that at Greendykes? I've not been along there for a while.
Soptted those that Gembo spotted. Also spotted Gembo after remarking to Fimm "I would expect Gembo to be here at some point"
Also got a Fimm and other half Spot who were eating tasty treats at the Balerno Farmers Market on the way OUT on their cycle. Something which is an excellent idea.
Anyone know where one can buy really big round potato scones from? Potato scone wraps are the biz.
Lady in the queue for bread referred to Gembo with a name that was not "Gembo" thus reminding me that people on the forum have actual names.
