On the front page a post by @Frenchy above one by @gembo and my brain made that one post by @Franco and I thought 'Yikes, thought he was dead.'

Hugh McDIARMID, whose haircut I seek to emulate, flirted with facism in the early thirties, such was his hatred of the british and French bourgeoisie

He lived for the last 26 years of his life rent free at Brownsbank Cottage outside of Biggar. His second wife then stayed there for another decade or so until she diesd

it then had various writers living in it including James Robertson who used to manage Waterstones in Glasgow back in the day and Matthew Fittwho translated The Twitts into Scots - The Eejits

Later writers have complained about THe Mice and having to keep the fire going through the night to get heat.

One of my favourite Viz comic strips is a biography of Ringo Starr. It exhaustively describes his career as:

    • Apprentice machinist
    • Drummer in The Hurricanes
    • Frontman of Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band
    • Narrator of Thomas the Tank Engine

E-bikes good idea for that. Steering what is in effect a four wheel trailer could be 'interesting' on rough tracks.

There was a guy riding a very well built bike from George IVth to Dundas street. Looked a bit like a Kaffenback (black frame with red white and blue stripes on top tube) with a front shelf and solid rack on the back. It was just a lovely looking normal bike all in all. I told him so and he looked a little confused about why I was saying anything. I think he looked a bit pleased. Anyway I hope he took it in the spirit it was meant in. He had a tweed cap.

Impressive cycling this morning - a chap holding a takeaway coffee in his left hand and in the same hand a half-smoked hand-rolled cigarette. Heading down Raeburn Place in style sipping as he rode.

I once saw someone eating an apple with a knife as they cycled. This struck me as foolish for more than one reason. However Kudos to style.

Passed a man on an interesting looking recumbent trike heading south on Comiston Rd towards Fairmilehead tonight at 1830. Potentially inhabitant of this forum?

Whote-frame small-scale cargo-looking bike on Leith Walk yesterday - it has a long rack at the back which is part of the frame, on which there was a child seat.

  14. A grinning fimm on her way to work in Livi. I was out of the saddle slogging into a headwind as she cruised in the opposite direction on the brompton. As well as looking stylish I swear her coat was being used as a sail.

@galaxy I thought that might be you!
The coat is an additional WFT? addition in an effort to encourage even the doziest of drivers to notice me.
(Actually I've had the coat longer than I've been cycling. I'm not sure that I'll replace it with something quite as long and flappy. I stand by my 'what???' comment, all the same.)

@edinburgh87, it might've been AlanR. Big fluorescent yellow panniers and a bright rear light?

Edit: unless what you saw was bright red, well lit and nine feet long, in which case that was the red torpedo with me at the controls.

@gembo nice to see you. A couple of minutes after you left us due to the passing drizzle, a kingfisher alighted on a branch of the tree on the far bank. Big John and I admired it although it quickly secreted itself within the branches further back and became all but invisible to passers by...

Chap skiing down a70 between west Calder turn and tarbrax. I know him, not the first time (the road is closed but passable if no workies there. The asphalt scraped in random squares both sides.

Scotland isn’t set up properly for cyclists yet still tries to cater to them.

    Scotland>Tools>Options>Set Up For Cycling>TRUE.

  30. It was indeed me @fimm.

Late leaving today as had to do a drop off at child-minder's. I was almost tempted to take the car to work on the way back home as it was so cold and frosty. Closing in on a 3 year streak since last time I did though so glad I never...
