"I hope that these roll out fairly speedily."
Well, I hope they observe all speed limits.
Did you hear them too, or were they silent? A silent taxi sounds quite dangerous.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

An ambulance stuck in festive traffic on Morningside Road, blue lampies a-flashing.
Halo around the moon this evening and some potential non dog walking people in vehicles potentially about the engage in any number of illegal activities at Harlaw reservoir car park. I did see a police jeep heading up there shortly after but didn't flag it down as he was full beaming me so I couldn't tell it was a cop. Thankfully I avoided screaming obscenities. Wonder if he headed up to the car park.
Big blue light stooshie on Viewforth bridge today. Fire engine(s), ambulance and 'National Resilience Unit'. Also other units at Leamington. Emergency services looking over bridge towards canal quays.
@Kim went out and asked what was happening.
Sunken canal boat reported plus another reported going down. First incident already known about (mentioned here a week ago).
Not sure how accurate report of second sinking was. Met H from CS shop who was wondering about so much activity near floating homes.
@wingpig indeed... There was the usual whine of the motor but not much noise. I hope that the relatively relaxing experience of electric vehicles will help calm angrier drivers at least.
The sunken canal boat was looking a little more sunken today... I didn't see any other casualties though.
@unhurt out side @balerno Scotmid.
I enjoyed our short cinematic chat.
@unhurt, me too.
I returned to Gembo Towers to watch film with Young Master Gembo. I have introduced him to the samurai films of Kurosawa. Pushed it yesterday with Rashomon as only really two sword fights - well the same sword fight which looks very different in the narration of the two versions Almost inverting his own genre. We still have plenty samurai films of Kurosawa to go that are mostly just sword fighting. Remade as Black Hawk Down which is still a good film. Rashomon is better. The wife is of course very badly treated. And it is going to a very bleak place until an almost tacked on redemptive ending. However, as with most of the samurai films of Kurosawa it takes us to a very strange world alien to our own. Outside our Ken. Plus the camera work is very inventive.
@laidback piloting something new and very elegant on the links... also this
@algo - was letting a potential customer have his first two wheeled reclined experience doing round trip to Portobello. He had just swapped over from the trike I was on when we saw you and family. (Not cycling for a change)
Spotted. A lone cyclist making the walk of shame from Craigleith to Roseburn, not a soul slowed to check on the poor chap. He apparently he had all the tools to replace an inner tube but no means of inflating it.
How do I know so much of this fool, the pump is in my other Carradice...
Geraint Thomas OBE
The list of refusers or returners is I think more interesting. Alan Bennett (often spotted cycling around Camden) turned down CBE and Knighthood
...a damehood for the Stagecoach co-founder Ann Gloag, for services to business and philanthropy, and also for the former CEO of Virgin Money, Jayne-Anne Gadhia, for services to the financial industry...
I reckon Mr Bennet's in more honourable company.
@iwrats, yes mostly for example Mr D Bowie, Mr Paul Weller but also curiously Ms Nigella Lawson
Lots of families out cycling on the Gilmerton-Roslin path.
Somebody shouted hello to me on West Harbour Road this morning. I was on a takeaway bike.
Moose Walkin The dog then Arobcomp on way back up WoL path.
Two takeaway bikes heading west along the seafield prom yesterday evening just before 7. Three heading east along Porty prom just after 8.
Kaputnik with child in tow in a well known recently owned supermarché. Sorry I did not say hello, I spotted you after staring blankly at some canned goods while trying to remember what I was supposed to be buying...
Steveo?
Yup. Both bicycle still sickly and can't face the bus in the morning!
Gembo heading up the WOL on his work bike as I was on a run with mini-ARob in the running trailer thing. We made it to the swings just as the rain started and the darkness fell, but mini-Arob had a delightful time walking around and picking up the new wood chippings that have been put down in Spylaw park.
Was lovely to see both robcomps. Was worried rain might affect play. Glad it did not. Path was OK as far as mud but the ultitrec was better. Had lots of good interactions with Peds and dog walkers. Maybe the little ding of the tottie brass bell that one wee boy was amazed at or maybe the slow speed that one ped remarked on, causing me to go up to third. It was my pub bike, abandoned at work over the Xmas period. Sturmey Archer 3 speed with the 20 tooth cog on the rear. Might need to go down 5per cent to the 19 tooth. Climb from car park up New Street to the Royal Mile was slow.
"Takeaway bike" going west past the Caley Sample Room and later (I assume the same bike) coming back the other way.
Forgot that I'd spotted a takeaway bike sitting on the canal, just leaning against the wall, near the wee outside gym at the student accommodation at Fountainbridge. This was a few days ago, and it was gone the next day. I assume it wasn't docked in the canal...
Forgot to post the other day; Neil Thompson / Cycle Safety on Nicholson Street on Friday afternoon, whom I basically cut up going Southbound over the Royal Mile by misjudging my speed and when the lights would change.
First towpath high five of 2019 with gembo this morning.
I'm pretty sure @amir overtook me twice on my way home tonight, which is particularly impressive as I didn't overtake him in between.
