Steveo must have been late, as I was later than usual and passed him further upstream.

Forgot to mention this before. Friday evening, Waverley station, I came across a woman wheeling a unicycle around the concourse (not riding it, wheeling it). What's the big deal, you may be wondering, this is Edinburgh we have a festival, etc. Well yes except this was what I can only describe as an all-terrain unicycle: chunky rim, huge fat knobbly tyre, spattered in mud too. Lady wheeling it had a small rucksack with an MTB style helmet attached to it, was dressed for MTB riding too I'd say.

    Chapeau, I thought.

Was bicycling down George Street and spotted that the bicyclist in front of me had a child seat whose harness straps were bodged at the back with a flimsy lash-up of cable ties. That is they were not correctly installed and would clearly come loose in a crash of any force.

At the next lights I apologised for the intrusion and explained my concern. The pilot told me it was an additional safety feature and I should mind my own beeswax.

It is my belief that the welfare of children should be a matter for all of the sane adults in a community so I don't feel bad.

People don't like unsolicited advice, even if well-meaning.

(Ooops - did I just give some unsolicited advice...? :P )

I would hope that despite their belief about your beeswax, they might have had a wee furtive look when they got home to see why it could be unsafe.

It was light enough on my way home for me to spot a Bollocks to Brexit sticker on a lamppost as I approached South Queensferry

Someone on the canal towpath very enthusiastically saying HELLO and waking me up from my daily grind. Between Boroughmuir and Gibson Terrace heading West as I was heading West - made me double take as I thought they were saying hello to someone behind me.

Deliveroo rider wearing a pair of chunky headphones to the top of which a red light was attached.

(To be clear, I have no problem with his choice of headwear; I was wearing a wooly hat for my ride. It was the ingeniuity of the "helmet" light mounting that I liked. I have slightly more of a problem with the fact that that was his only rear light but to be honest the big Deliveroo bags are so reflective there's no excuse for not seeing one.)

Preemptive spot: I expect to spy a Gembo at Balerno Tattie Day (and Farmer's Market) this Saturday. Though it ends far too early for the lazy*.

*me, not wanting to leave the house before ten on a Saturday

Yes you will be able to spot me. Tho if you are not there early then praps not.

    I am thinking second earlies
    and Lates.

Last year they largely came all at the same time......

Had you been up last Saturday when I spotted Mother of the Unhurt and The a sheeptoucher at the fairtrade coffee morning you would also have spotted me on the bicycle smoothie maker.

Unfortunately I was in Ireland and forced to spend the morning looking about the inside of some old pile of rocks called Newgrange then climb a castle tower at Trim. Fair-trade Balerno obviously much more exciting. I mourn for the smoothie bike.

Ah my friend Des has had his name in the raffle for decades to be there on the winter solstice when the toolbox is aligned to the rising sun. Last year his name came up. Quite amazing. Works well on days either side of the solstice too.

    Toolbox? I like it.

It was pretty sweet. I've been inside Maeshowe for the winter sunset alignment but as expected the clouds were down and no lighting effects were had. Did get very very cold though...

A unicyclist traversing Heriot-Watt Campus this morning. I overtook them and commented "nice wheels, well, wheel" in passing, before spotting them arriving at the building opposite mine as I was locking my bike up.
