Sunday afternoon. Couple of blokes pedalling city hire bikes on shared use path coming from Porty prom.

Nothing like a few days of sunshine to bring out occasional bike riders...

Chap pedalling along the prom at Seafield with tunes playing and the happiest looking wee, scruffy dug cantering behind. Life goals.

@crowriver - there were loads of groups out along the prom and paths leading to and from it on Sunday! Hopefully some of them get the bug and become more frequent cyclists.

Cycled up from Morningside with AlanR this evening, and then met Uberuce who cruised past us effortlessly on a hub geary bike. Didn't catch him until about the Buckstone shops, then we chatted until we reached Fairmilehead, and he went one way and I the other.

The big bearded one sends his regards to all those still on CCE.

  5. I got spotted this morning on the Innocent in Bingham. Given how long it is since I've been around here it took my a moment to process having "Wilmington's Cow!" called out, so apologies as I completed missed who it was!

A guy riding a Harley-Davidson at speed with a small dog sitting on the tank. And the pooch was wearing a darling pair of doggles to protect its eyes!

People riding full-suss MTBs on the Cairngorm plateau. I do not approve of this. The plateau vegetation and paths are just too delicate.

Saw a gent on an electric Gazelle struggling to get up the hill at the top of Ashley Terrace and consequently wobbling all over the place, resulting in a dangerously close encounter with a thoughtlessly overtaking car. I guess the battery was out of juice because otherwise it seemed like the perfect use case for the lecky to kick in.

A woman on a very sturdy Dutch style bike with porteur rack and a fairing heading west through Roseburn Park. Seeing more and more of these everyday practical bikes around, which can only be a good thing.

Every morning I see various cyclists going down Lennel Avenue / Campbell Avenue as I shepherd my 4yo to preschool (him on bike on pavement, me on electric bike with flower stickers on the road). It's always nice to get a smile or wave or hello and a shared appreciation of the joy of a nice commute. :)

Not exactly a spot, more a connection, but a fellow member of the mountaineering club remarked that she'd just met up with our Forum Author before coming to the pub...

IWRATS, said person had emailed several of the mountaineering club members who she thought might be interested in bikepacking to your book launch. I don't know if she knows of the forum connection.

What goes on CCE stays on CCE...except of course when it bursts into the public sphere?

Spotted Arobcomp's name at top of gold hill leaderboard in EBC Alvanley Tce yesterday. Also chap who I have been aware of for more than thirty years, first in Seeds then skippering around Edinburgh, originally on a bike with a big plastic windscreen as his home but now without bike. Spotted his rucksack on the way in and then he chatted to me on the way out. Seems the residents in the close at 7 alvanley Tce are facists. At first I thought he meant the coop but he was clear it was not them (no 7 is a doorway within the EBC empire). I surmise he had been sleeping rough down the dunny at the back of the close. In some ways I am always sad when I meet this guy but in other ways he cheers me as he abides. He has very few teeth now and has become very sweary but has some good rucksacks and a pink cup for keeping his coffee warm. Not quite the hero of Boudu Sauve Des Eaux but near enough (saved from drowning at beginning of movie adopted by bourgeoisie, eats all food, knocks up daughter of the bourgeoisie, jumps back in river at the end - will buy pint in Summerhall for first person to identify the Hollywood movie that stole this plot).

    Also good bantz inside EBC

Gembo - why are these lightweight full finger endura gloves the same price as these endura deep winter full finger gloves?
Young EBC chap- blah bla price match, blah blah hi tech fabric, blah blah easier to make thicker gloves.

We paused to laugh at all of these absurdities ( I remember when EBC did actually price match cost them a fortune)

I went with why don't you knock off £1.24 and then it can be contactless. He agreed. Honours even, except I paid thirty quid for gloves because I can't find the older better pair of endura full finger summer gloves, bet they turn up now.

I spotted @Frenchy and @ARobComp on the meadows earlier about to negotiate chicanes - I guiltily greeted from afar and carried on with elder child who insisted on cycling on the roads all the way to the Inch community centre (she is 6). I may have lost a few years crossing the junction by Cameron Toll but I am well aware of whom is to blame for the gung ho attitude.

    Excellent

    Not correct

    But excellent

As JK Simmonds ( sorry I mean The Great JK Simmonds ) says in Whiplash

    Not quite my tempo

Clue - Boudu is played by Nick Nolte

Maybe fifty cyclists at the Humbie Hub today. Indeed MRCC contingent did not like the look of the queue. Haddington out in large group, other smaller groups and 8 Fietsclub.

At one point the staff member came into the garden seeking the person who had ordered a veggie burger and haloumi roll. Now I like a good veggie burger and I like grilled haloumi but together seemed a little heavy for the return route.

Anyway no one fessed up in the garden. I suspect (and I am going to show a prejudice here so please forgive me) it was the bearded chap from Porty Velo.

To continue this terrible prejudice which is of course Just Bantz

    Here is an acronym PPPOHV

The v is for Vibe. Can you work out the rest?

The third P is for Permanently

    Is the OH off-hand?
I have to admit I've been guilty of not recognising the thing I've ordered.
Waiter (in posh Indian restaurant proferring dish): "Your kulfi sir"
Me: "Sorry, I didn't order coffee I ordered ice cream".
