it is expected to be retired later this year."

“If we were to do that, it would be nice to have a cafe and another form of attraction to bring in the visitors and so I’d like the locos to be preserved here as part of a small railway museum allied to the farm.

I spotted Uberuce this morning, while climbing the Biggar Road hill towards Fairmilehead.

On my way home I thought I saw Klaxon heading into town near Hillend. I was sort-of-recognised, but that might've just been the bike.

I was given a mighty hi 5 from the Mighty Kaputnik on the towpath after Boroughmuir towards the cute cygnets and ducklings

Evening Standard has 'cycling controversies' as a valid type of transport story. No other cycling.

Explains a lot if the BBC and so on have the same rule, no?

Lots of CCE illuminati enjoying the closed streets. Also really nice to see Algo - I’ll take up your kind offer of a drink another time.

Not often you get word that a notorious member of Edinburgh's shady cycling mafia lobby is frequenting your local and you find yourself free of children for 5 minutes... next time I'll try and get there quick enough to offer you a round in time - very nice to bump into you...

I have nodded at a cyclist who I spotted coming up MMW on weekday mornings a couple of times recently (this morning being the second occasion) who looks a lot like neddie. I haven't felt that I received any recognition in return so I'm starting to worry that I might be confusing a random.

Style it out. Keep nodding until they become your friend.

All good advice, although I was hoping that neddie might pop by to confirm or deny my suspicion.

Someone raised a hand at me on the NEPN this morning - somewhere between the red bridge and Roseburn. No idea who they were, but I waved back anyway as the person behind me was too far back to have been the intended recipient.

@Morningsider (in Morningside) this evening with a very fancy new bicycle that we spent a little time admiring and discussing, despite the patient presence of mini- and micro-Morningsider. It has all the things one needs from a town bicycle: dynamo, roller brakes, nurse's lock, chain case, rack, stand and so on. Unsurprisingly, it's a Gazelle from Hart's.

Spotted @Harts today - well it was easy given that I was in his shop paying him to rebuild my wheel. :)

@wingpig, sorry I didn't spot you in turn. I was hurrying to Waverley to catch a train.

Actually I was trying to take my time because I was a bit early, but I was afraid of not having any contingency on my contingency schedule. Got to Waverley with, er, 20 minutes in hand.

@neddie no problem, I'll keep nodding unless of course I decide to change my route, town and identity as suggested.

Neddie does not respond to a nod. That is Noddy you are thinking of. However Neddie always smiles if you shout Yo Neddie or go for the Hi 5

    So jdanielp

Throw off your mantle chains and give Neddie the big Hallooo

Hankchief, or rather hankchief's panniers and then a realisation that the rider was Hankchief this morning.

We were both riding unladen Helios, although as I was going uphill I'll use that as my excuse for being a little slow in my realisation.

Third time lucky spotting neddie and receiving recognition this morning on MMW, although admittedly I did up the ante by waving and vocalising - a nod may have been too subtle.

gembo shout-whispered "J.D.P." as we passed one another in the pouring rain on the towpath last night. I may not have spotted him otherwise because my glasses were smeared with raindrops and I failed to recognise his waterproof attire.

Muscle guy (the one who randomly roared the word 'nipples' at me in the street one winter while wearing nothing above the waist but a trapper hat) wandering round the National Library in flip-flops and very short shorts. Guy in a bow tie shaking his head in disbelief. Seems to be holding it together mind.

ARobComp heading out of town beyond the bypass on the canal towpath just after I left work and then a second spot of neddie who joined at Harrison Park and then chummed me just beyond the swans and the non-lift bridge.
