@Ed1 the primary entrance to Heriot-Watt was closed for resurfacing and some tree pruning this week, diverting traffic around the research park; back to normal today.

The spine breaker speed bumps are still there disappointingly. Although they are very handy at waking me up on the 34/35.

Spotted in the centre of town: Many ladies with radical undercuts, sailor tattoos and stretched earlobes.

Not spotted in the centre of town: Any men in linen suits.

    Changed days.

Thank you @Dave for cutting the Meggetland hedge. It's a neat job, and you made a good job of picking up all the spiky bits that less-considerate hedge cutters leave scattered across the towpath.

@Davec, sorry about the sore hand. Me and friend were heading north to Cromdale. Great ride and I'll post more in another thread.

Yes well done to Dave for clearing the canal path of hanging branches. I did tell him to let us know next time that he wishes to do some guerrilla gardening although equally perhaps I should also take it upon myself to do the same and organise it in the first place.

Police are set-up on Cultins Road at Edinburgh Park Station stopping everyone that goes through the bus gate and it’s very, very satisfying to watch.

Why don’t they just put an ANPR camera there and send the fines in the post?

I’ve often wondered why we don’t have more bus gate/lane cameras. I assume they must be very expensive?

Portable ones would be handy for summertime streets.

they will jut be educzting them

Police Scotland gave a great response to Big Bee - spokes retweeted - is that on here it is very satisfying (i paraphrase the answers, you do not need the questions)

    1. I did ticket a cyclist jumping a red light in Edinburgh recently
    2. Riding in the middle of the road is not illegal
    3. Bikes do not produce emissions so VED/Road Tax does not apply

Amazingly they were actually being ticketed (despite one driver moaning they dint see the big sign, green paint or words on the ground).

The roads policing account is pretty good on Twitter - shockingly, I saw that they actually charged two people during op close pass recently. Must be a record!

that is unbelievably good. Likely all drivers will have known what they have done was wrong

Not a bad night for it after all - wind was easterly in morning then westerly in evening but not too strong

I'm sure I spotted a few familiar faces on the ride along the WoL and Canal this morning, but as I have not been to a PY in ages I don't know who you were.

Meant to say I spottted Big John in the reception of Waverley Court, he was in good form advising everyone to Stay Loose (and letting them know this meant take it easy). He asked after JDanielP and called me Man a lot. Not clear what message he was leaving but he insisted Tattoo tickets now cost £250-£330 and stuck to his guns when I queried this.

Spotted fimm gently Bromming through Gorgie this evening. I was in disguise on the motorbike heading for The Cycle Service.

Little did I know then that the Grassmarket would be at a standstill thanks to a lorry lifting a parked car, and the Cowgate was shut, meaning everyone not cycling had to U-turn and find another route!

my heart was made glad today on the towpath when a replica of the daddy of all Clyde Puffers (The Vital Spark) came along the water. THe Wee Spark is not perhaps steam powered but built to resemble a Clyde Puffer.

Anyone who wants a laugh could read the Neil Munro stories of Para Handy, the Engineer et al as they take the goods from the Broomielaw in Glasgow to the Islands. Or watch the TV show.

Shortly after this I hailed another captain The Mighty R McM who has a daY JOB THAT FEATURES in these pages. He was taking his house for a swim in the canal.

"Cycling was a big thing in those days and Edna was a keen cyclist, with her friend Sheila Ramage and the local cycling club. Their bicycles had fixed-wheels – no gears – but they thought nothing of the challenge of cycling all the way up to the Highlands and back in a single day."

I spotted The Wee Spark on the canal this morning as well. What a lovely sight.

Also saw JDanielP on MMW. Still surprisingly clear of tourists. We had a wave.
I was cycling the mound way to St Andrew's square from the canal to see if it felt less stressful than going via the west end.

FAR FAR less stressful however also took 5 minutes more. Think that'll be the new route sorted then!
