    @Gembo -re: the new path up next to beech avenue (we call that Exponential in the Pentland cycling community)

    We spotted it the other day and decided to ride it last week after the heavy rains. Much of the path had already started to wash away which was a tad disturbing to see. The surface is completely awful to cycle on and I imagine not ideal to walk on. Basically I have no idea why they've created it. I sincerely hope that there was not public money involved in its construction.

    Saw my first NYC-style throttle e-bike in Edinburgh today. Well, that or they’ve mastered cycling up Lothian Road at speed without pedalling

    @arobcomp paid for by landowner but maybe grant too. Joggers preferred it to the road, the walker i saw went up the road so not sure

    @Dave, twice on the towpath. We exchanged waves yesterday evening as he headed west on a very upright bike going very fast. This morning he was heading east in an unusual pose: he was carrying a hedge trimmer like a lance in one hand and towing an empty, but quite rattly, trailer. I assume he was off to joust with some bushes.

    I also came across Katarina on the aqueduct: that was less fun.

    @Greenroofer I saw her in the morning (before 7am) a few weeks ago. There was no-one else around on the towpath as I was passing her, she shouted something at me and then went quiet again. I don't think it was anything personal. My plan for the next time is to scream as I approach her -- just as an experiment.

    @bill I will be interested to hear how you get on. I haven't seen much of her lately, although I did spot her with a dog as well as her bike on the campus at Heriot-Watt a few weeks ago. I only spotted her because she shouted at me from quite a distance as I cycled by.

    The name of a local purveyor of specialist two- and three-wheeled human-powered transport, and at least one red torpedo, but not (as far as I could tell) the Red Torpedo.

    I didn't recognise anyone, but perhaps you did

    Had a quick chat with (I assume) Mr LaidBack outside the shop late this morning about the need (or not) for a helmet in this weather. I made my way off with mine in my basket but hastily put it on my head as I approached Lothian Road...

    Yes... had two customers out on my 'urban assault course with wrong bikes' tour!

    New path at Wardie is excellent btw.
    Lovely to see families out heading towards Cramond on it.

    Amidst the chaos of George Heriot's school drop off, and the serried ranks of big SUVs, a man in a well-cut suit pedalling two small children into the school in a Nihola bakfiets.

    Is that jump bike in Edinburgh? Are they finally introducing them into the city?

    @gembo do you know what is up with the gates across the public way at the old splash warehouse?

    I read some nonsense in the C&B News letters section that they hadn't blocked the path as the gates are not locked, but the other day I tried them for the banter (going to physio and not home) and said public route is very much blocked off.

    All part of maintaining the chdot mystique.

    There is an Urban Arrow owner there too. Latest Nihola I sold was for a Sciennes / nursery / Uni run.

    @gembo - @dave has a question :-)

    @dave

    These are very illegal gates as the alternative paths that the Tiling Magnate has put in are inadequate in comparison to the earlier path which was of course the road.

    @neddie was on this case but despite the illegality the gates abide.

    The mothball smell has however gone.
