Deliveroobler on a Just Eat bike trying to run into me on the footway.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I've been spotting a Deliveroo person on a 'running bike' (something like the Elliptigo Long-Stride) around town in the last week or so.

@jdanielp I had a chat with that guy the other day. As genial and eccentric as you might imagine.

Went up Jacob's Ladder then round regent, carlton and royal tces in my lunch break. Down to Toppings Bookshop.
Spotted that people live above it and there is a wee community down the back of Green's Playhouse if any last minute canvassers are out and about.
Spotted that Toppings give you a cafetierre of coffee whilst you browse, in wee cup and saucer plus a biscoff biscuit.
Bought two hardbacks for my eldest (Atwood and Bronte, - Carter next?> She would love that reworking of red riding hood, Dances with Wolves was it?) Then spotted a photo of a mole inside a book about owls I nearly bought except it was £55
Imagine being a wee mole burrowing your way up to the light. You pop out on the surface of the world and a fecking big owl kills you.

I got mulled wine. And in return I signed a book for them. Not mine. Bit giddy.

@gembo I visited for the first time yesterday afternoon. I did not get as far as enjoying a free drink (and wouldn't have deserved one given that I didn't purchase anything), but I did explore the whole shop and had a quick browse of the stock, appreciating the many rolling library ladders and signed first editions. Upstairs was tricky to navigate due to a combination of many customers, some of whom were enjoying free hot drinks, and the aforementioned ladders.

@IWRATS glad to hear about the geniality/eccentric nature.
Nobody offered me mulled wine :\ Whose book did you sign?
Posted 4 years ago # -
I liked the wee ladders
the stairs though are narrow bottleneck

@jdanielp
Not sure. From the 'literary travel' section.

gembo and neddie and Morningsider and a man in front of Morningsider with a really bright light pointing in my face.

I'll be on the Reunion boat on the canal for the next couple of hours for work 'festive fun' if anyone wants to wave in passing...

@jdanielp
Those are heavy inverted commas.

I'm hoping for kingfisher distractions...

All power to the mighty jdp optics.

We've been well fed at least.

piosad in the towpath while I was on the canal. I waved and received a polite wave back in response, then a slightly surprised double-take as I was recognised!

Poster in botanics in Glasgow. John Kibble invented bike to pedal on water in Victorian era. Cycled loch long on it. Also invented the world's largest camera. The kibble palace which is a glass house in Glasgow botanics was originally at his house Coulport near Cove on loch long but it was moved to west end of Glasgow. I imagine some glass was broken.

@jdanielp indeed! I know I am bad at inscrutability in general but that is some impressive observation given the combined speed of the bicycle and the barge

On reflection, I thoroughly enjoyed the Reunion boat trip yesterday because we enjoyed some great food (although we had organised that ourselves) and it was satisfying to get a different perspective of the canal, which makes me want to book a narrow boat holiday for the first time since a few family holidays on the English and Welsh canals when I was younger. Luckily, 'festive fun' was mostly avoidable. The two hour round trip from Lochrin Basin means turning prior to Slateford Aqueduct, which is a bit of a shame.

his house Coulport near Cove on loch long
Coulport now has a nice set of detached concrete houses set in a gated community.

Chap caught me at Roseburn then sped off chasing down an electric fat bike who passed us.

Venerable-looking gent on Hanover Street a few minutes ago, having just done the Dundas Street climb. Chapeau to him as he was riding a singlespeed at some pace and in some style.
I was on a bus.

This afternoon in the torpedo I was greeted cheerily on Inglis Green Rd by the slightly grizzled, hard as nails guy who is probably the only motorcycle courier left in Edinburgh. He used to have a big black Teacrate attached to the back of his Honda NTV, but he has a different type of box now.

I was mildly surprised to spot piosad crossing the King's Theatre Junction from Home Street and Leven Street right in front of me as I was about to pull away from the ASZ on Tarvit Street this morning.

That is Tito. He is a former Bulgarian tank commander.

I know exactly who you mean. Has a fag outside Marchmont Co-op every morning about 8:45.
He does indeed look grizzled.

Tito has the ability to smoke fags while riding at some speed. He is also cheaper and much faster than the Royal Mail for many tasks.
