Friendly owner of homebuilt e-bike with childseat starting chatting in the ASL facing King's Theatre.
I pulled away sharp on recliner but his bike was running a 500w motor I think.
Stopped again at Melville Drive Toucan. His battery pack was in triangular frame box. I asked how may Watt hours. Didn't know as he had scavenged and made his own. 'Enough' was all he said.
Frame was Boardman aluminium - got for around £100. Cycled up MMW without pedalling - he has speed limited to conserve power. Does courier work on web ordered deliveries.
Doubt any other form of transport has such encounters. Cycleways help of course.

Kind folk from Graham's dairy handing out freebies outside the Balmoral. Since the lights were red I hopped off my bike and loaded the pannier with 'kefir' drink and 'icelandic' yoghurt.
Couldn't do that if I'd been ruminating in a metal box on wheels!

The slogan of the Highland Land League and other big chunks of Gaelic all neatly sprayed on the walls of the innocent tunnel.
Getting quite mental with graffiti down there now. Some would be Art and some Agitprop (if it weren’t in the middle of a long tunnel) the rest is mentchies as per.
Easter hailes gait tunnel is also very nearly finished and incredibly colourful.

@jdanielp making determined, lime-green, progress along Balcarres Street just now. I was on at the bus stop, waiting for a bus to take me to the High Court, where I am doing Jury Service.
I had been hoping for a case involving someone on a bike so I could do the Twelve Angry Men thing and get some justice for once, but no such luck.

Spotted a tricycle arrangement lit up like a Christmas tree - literally like covered in fairy lights - piloted by what seemed to be a disabled athlete. Was heading for the Meadows. Anybody we know?

@Greenroofer sorry, I did hear something to my right as I passed but failed to react. I was then spotted in the ASZ on Myreside Road by a colleague on the 45 bus that passed right in front of me but failed to acknowledge them also.
I see that you will be providing an 'RBS Virtual Tour and Q&A Session' at the Sustrans event next week to which I'm now signed up as well as gembo. Can I assume that this is bike-related or is RBS trying to woo investments from the all powerful/finacially solvent Edinburgh cycling lobby?!

@jdanielp I'm quite impressed by the catering that's on offer for that event, now that I've seen the menu.
Please don't ask too many difficult questions.

Should I read anything into the fact that there will be nobody going to the Sustrans event from the Scottish Government (civil service, rather than Parliament), Royal Infirmary (or other hospitals), Bank of Scotland, TSB, or a number of other similar large employers in the city? You would hope that all of these, and others, would also be making sincere efforts to improve their travel sustainability. (Good representation from those organisations which definitely are doing good work in this regard, though.)

What is this Sustrans event?

Active Travel Champions Nosh Up
Posted 4 years ago # -
Aha. I thought that I recognised another name on the list.
(I have been tipped off to take tupperware along because apparently the event (but not catering) is underbooked.)

“ event (but not catering) is underbooked”
Lots of hungry CCEers...
Posted 4 years ago # -
and they are all “ Active Travel Champions“.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Sustrans spent large on the nosh but soft drinks only
Posted 4 years ago # -
@davecykl - I think Active Travel Champions are born, not made, so at some level unless there's someone in the organisations who was born to the role, you probably won't see the organisation on Tuesday's guest list.

Spotted @algo at the Traverse Bar making 'one-two-thre-four' hand gestures at a group of adult men. They immediately obeyed those commands.
Posted 4 years ago # -
@iwrats - a count of 4 sounds a bit mundane for @algo’s group. Sure it wasn’t 7 or 13?

@Stickman
I think it was a countdown to a change to 5/13 time right enough.
Posted 4 years ago # -
@IWRATS thank you immensely for coming and thanks @stickman for your confidence in my counting. IWRATS is right - I was taking a drinks order for flaming sambucas.

Six individual spots of lone male cyclists on the lang whang at different times this morning between balerno and apple pie of carnwath (new doors) and back. All had red long sleeved jerseys on. I did not get the memo and was in pink.
Slow zen ride out into wind, sharpish return to put chairs out for Toy Story 4

Was that jdanielp on Roseburn St this afternoon?

Along the towpath today:
I saw several times a man retrieving stuff from the canal below the Gogar Station Rd bridge. He had two ropes with hooks (or such). He was throwing that in and pulling out. It didn't look like he got much apart from some bit of metal. I saw him from about 9am till about 12. The final time I saw him he was accompanied by two polis officers. It looked like they informed him he wasn't allowed to do it.
Few minutes later at Bridge 8 Hub two boys trying security codes and pulling the handle to painted shipping containers. I told them to leave that but they claimed they were just looking. Then we exchanged some more shouts and hand gestures. Was I supposed to report it?
Posted 4 years ago # -
@bill, think Bridge 8 will have good security? The guy with the hooks, who knows? Trying to retrieve smuggled casks of brandy he had hidden under the bridge but the trolls had shifted?
Posted 4 years ago # -
@bill - reported here, you never know who is reading.
First spot today at Viewforth was Elliptigo Delveroo rider run/cycling on his steed over bridge. Think they only have 8 speed hub, looked good work out.
Then 10 mins later near Myreside a bright green Onderwater tandem / triplet.
Like a cargo bike with children pedalling in front.
Like this.

In Saughton Park, on of those side by side tricycles with an adult and a child enjoying themselves.

@Frenchy afraid not. I've been in Preston this weekend so presumably a doppelganger.
@bill sounds like magnet fishers? I have seen this going on sporadically of late.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Your doppelganger is also a cyclist, then. What are the odds?
Posted 4 years ago # -
Magnet fishers? Thought it was hooks? I have seen the magnet cats around the bridge at boroughmuir, they have metal lozenge thing on rope, seems to come out with nothing caught?
Also Polis?
Spotted a big red bike, it had a step through set up with additional mixte bars and new to me also a crossbar. Looked like a very big person’s bike. Big brown brooks saddle too. The down tube shifters had been converted to grifters and chain was well oiled.

A group of half a dozen children in some sort of bike train heading North on Gilmerton Road around 7pm last night, with a police officer on a bike heading up the rear.
