@arellcat doing flyby of castle on her Windcheetah. Heard the buzz of three wheels moving fast

This must be my doppelgängerin of whom ARobComp is familiar. I've ventured beyond the city bypass and into the wilds of Edinburgh only once since lock down.

Also, I don't have my Windcheetah anymore. ACtually I'm not entirely sure it's even roadworthy now after that awful bus incident.

Guy powering up a steep, very uneven, path on an electric scooter!

Also had a fully enclosed helmet on!

Is it a new extreme sport??

I think the person in front of me who stopped at the left-hand turn on Horse Wynd (possibly in consternation at being overtaken on the left-hand turn by an impatient dingbat in a car) on Tuesday was DDF.

@areĺlcat going down Comiston as I was heading up. Heading for LB which I close up at 2pm on Saturday. Had chat at 2m distance which was nice. Saw new front wheel built on Quest VM.
Also saw Mrs Kim on bike at Morningside Station and @Snowcycle on foot. Balcarres St much better for isolating route to/from Polwarth.

Within a minute of each other:

Xtracycle (I think) plus trailer heading along St John’s Road.
Parent and two kids (around 4 and 6) turning from Clermiston Road onto St John’s Road.

The former is a rare sight; the latter definitely not normal.

More of this sort of thing please.

Only heard it, but some sort of military jet aircraft went overhead just now. Always weird hearing them as we had them all the time back home but it was usually only commercial high-bypass turbofan stuff up here.

Likewise. I assume it did the usual Tattoo flyby for VE Day.

The Mighty Tinto Hill this a.m. You glimpse it from various spots in W Lothian and S Lanarkshire but this morning I was cresting before th Tarbrax turn and it was slightly overcast where I was but the sun was shining on Tinto Hill in all its glories. Clear day you could see the paths up it.

When restrictions are lifted I am keen to get to the road from Rigside down to Wiston. It is the back of Tinto on the Ayrshire side (still s Lanarkshire I know)
A fantastic descent. The road on the edinburgh side of Tinto is also lovely. THe Tinto Hill tearoom is a wee hut with a verandah and a log burning stove in winter. Vote Tinto.

Yes Tinto a lovely hill I have not climbed. Hill race every year but I am chicken. Partnered with Schiehallion and Glamaig in my mind - one word conical hills and possibly the abode of faeries.

Tinto easier than Schiehallion. Path quite wide too for running up. Running down though. I am also chicken.

Wiston’s wiki page has nice shot of it in the snow,

Two ambulances with a police escort absolutely flew past me on Earl Grey St. Don't think I've ever seen that before in the UK!

My mother used to stroll up Tinto on a Sunday afternoon in her Sunday best. Or something. The tale may have grown in the telling.

I've done the Tinto Hill race. For any Scottish hill race you are required to carry a certain amount of kit, including a map. The year I did it, the weather wasn't great, and the kit checker was being reasonably rigorous about checking for waterproofs etc. They were not too bothered about the map, though, given that the race route is 'run up the big path, round the cairn, and back down the way you came up', you'd have to do very well indeed to get lost!

@CycleAlex, that a strange sign but even more bizarre is it's location. Anyone who is riding a bike at that point would already have to be cycling on the road. It's located right next to the cycle racks but not visible from them.

Finally visited Shawfair on new path extension from Gilmerton.
Judged it wouldn't be too busy and was right - many more people heading to Roslin by bike at Gilmerton ramp.
    Most building sites not working.
Heading towards Joppa mutual spot of @colin of this forum going east. On Easter Rd saw a rider in black with shades. Might have been @cycleservice incognoto.

@gembo I saw the black bags of rubbish and litter stashed along A70 being loaded onto a big ute at around 7 this morning. At least the ones along the leafy Balerno section of A70.

    Council Ute or farmer Ute?

@gembo It didn't have any labels (i even turned back to see if any on the back). There were two men in hi-vis(possibly) picking them up. The Ute wasn't an actual Ute but type of small lorry with open but caged back (I don't know what they are called).

Believe they are termed "Luton vans".

I used to have a caged one for transporting Pedicabs. Huge and loud but can carry LOTS with a normal driving licence.

There was a long queue waiting outside The Bike Station today. Hope they had enough bikes.
