The car itself was gone when I passed that way on Friday but there was a lot of charred debris left, some of which looked like it could be detrimental to any bicycle tyre which happened to be ridden over it. So well done whoever decided it needed clearing away (though I'm not sure the council would take it in a garden waste bin...)

On a dreich day here in Dole in the Jura enroute to Spezi 2023 in Germany spotted a heavily laden Pederson piloted by mid-late age chap
On eurovelo 6 here which ends up in Budapest so quite a few bike packers pass through here . Bit early in the season just now

@jss, hope you enjoy the Dole food- we certainly did when we were based there for a week last summer (including a stage of the Tour and the town's celebrations of the bicentenary of Louis Pasteur's birth). Enjoyed the Doubs valley, including Besancon, hope the weather picks up for you.

@Greenroofer - indeed it was me - I'm afraid contributing to the car sewer that is Meggetland but I take my turn on taking 5 of them there and not all of them are able to cycle. It's a tricky problem as some parents really not happy with the idea - with my eldest I have even managed to convert a few but 7 is still a bit young for many to be cycling a few miles especially some of it on roads, although of course a lot can be done on the canal.

Afraid i spotted one too many cargo bikes cycling through Basel to Spezi
All driven at breakneck speed either by young bearded steam punkertypes or young frauleins with their kinder broods
Thinking these HGV s of the cycling world should be be banned from cycle
Paths after experiencing several near misses from these hurtling large electrically assisted monster wheel barrows
At least not threatened by any velo torpedoes
BTW avoid Rhine radweg unless you have a fat bike
In their teutonic wisdom the Germans have thought it a great idea to cover it in thick pea gravel making it near impossible to cycle on a normal bike
Mainly the section from Breissach to Nueunberg
Better sticking to the silky smooth tarmac on the French side Better wine too

@jss - cargo bike dealers should be called out for their crimes against cycling! ;-)
Realised that when a cyclist going other way on MMW swore at me in reaction to me towing a packed bike trailer behind laden UA.
We need a return to simplicity of cycling! Also need smaller cars too and fewer power tools. (discuss!)

Glad you're en route. Going to re-post your progress report onto Spezi 2023 thread.
Relying on you to persuade Wolf und Wolf to amount LB as their Scottish rep. :-)

On a cycle path near you - if you're passing through North Edinburgh on the Roseburn path we are seeding #Bees on Thursday 4th May 3.30. Off the Easter Drylaw park heading north towards Red Bridge and #scranfirbees. All welcome. @DrylawNC

    “That needs pushing back in”

    Presume inside the dotted lines.

Still not sure the sight lines would be adequate.

High 12-13 with gembo over the course of last week (two high fives and one brushing of fingers due to sub-optimal spacing).

Indeed it was. Big John was engaged in conversation with somebody else as I passed them on the towpath on Thursday.

    Research spot in road.cc

    Limb and Collyer 2023,

Cyclists wearing helmets seen as less Human by thirty per cent of the 563 respondents.

They did have a control picture of a cyclist wearing a cap which did not lead to the dehumanization effect

But not sure if they went the other way with a biker in full leather and full visor helmet.

Or just for argument’s sake some sort of full hijab style clothing,

Also there is then a leap to Ian Walker’s research where he did influence close passes with his long blonde wig.

But ultimately concluded nothing changes driver behaviour.

I think I am experiencing more close passes but also more good overtakes these days. This is subjective. Except at Auchinoon Brae which nearly always has bad driving. They have even redesigned the corner at Colzium which i class as the start of Auchinoon section to make it worse.

Seems to be a fella living in his canoe on the canal. Anyone chatted with him?

According to HP FB: "Say hi to Bash if you see him, as he is staying on the canal right now . On the 17th at the canal festival he will set off on his Scottish adventure: Caledonian Quest: canoeing down the canal, up the west coast and round the top to Inverness. YouTube ‘Green mile man’."

Spotted a couple of electric scooters in the past 24h:

Last night one going northbound down Hermiston House Rd (likely came along the canal) with a carry on suitcase sitting between the rider and the handlebars. Probably going to the airport (!)

This morning one pulled over by the polis in Livingston. The polis officer was talking to the rider, both on the pavement at that point.

@gembo I have seen him talking to multiple others so I think the team is bigger than you suspect. I don't remember being thumped.

Formerly Lilac, but now Black, Helmet Lady on the canal towpath this morning - I think that's the first time I have spotted her since before COVID times. Still the same friendly smile though.

@jdp the old order is being restored. I believe that I passed @gembo on the towpath on Wednesday morning, in the Craiglockhart area.

It's actually the first time I've commuted along there for a couple of months, and it was mad busy.
